Luo Yan listened to the conversation between the old lady and the middle-aged man with her eyes closed, and deduced that the man was a human trafficker.
As for the old lady, if she guessed correctly, it should be related to Liu Fengling and her daughter.
Yan Yuan instructed his men to take Luo Yan to the backyard. Luo Yan then felt a lightness in her body as she was picked up.
Luo Yan continued to feign unconsciousness, only opening her eyes after being put down and hearing the door close.
With no visibility whatsoever, Luo Yan sat up and reached out to try and feel her way.
There was a thin mattress under her. When she reached to the left, she felt a child, smaller than herself. When she reached to the right, she found an infant still in swaddling clothes.
Luo Yan counted in her mind and continued to touch both sides. There were 11 children in total, most of them younger than her, ranging in age from a few months to one or two years old.
And the children were sleeping soundly, and she couldn't wake them no matter what she did.
To drug such a young child just to keep them from crying is utterly inhumane.
The disappearance of a child foreshadows the breaking up of a family, and how many parents' lives will be ruined because of it...
Luo Yan crawled back to her original spot and sat in the darkness, pondering how to rescue the children.
I have my own space, and I could take these children into my space and take them away. But simply rescuing the children is only a temporary solution. Catching the traffickers is the real solution.
Just then, the sound of a lock being opened rang out. Luo Yan quickly lay down, squinting her eyes to see light streaming down from above, and a man climbing down a ladder.
It turned out she was being locked in the vegetable cellar.
The cellar is stuffy, damp, and cold. Children are delicate, and sleeping in such a place will make them sick even if they don't get sick. These heartless bastards deserve to die.
The man, in his forties and not very tall, was holding a bowl of water and using a spoon to feed each child a spoonful of water.
When the man fed her, Luo Yan held the food in her mouth and pretended to swallow. As soon as he left, she immediately got up and spat it out on the ground.
The water fed to her had a strange taste, and Luo Yan rinsed her mouth with the spiritual spring water from her spatial storage before she felt better.
It's likely that this water is a drug used to put the children to sleep. If this continues, some of the children might not be able to withstand it and could die.
The children were delicate, so Luo Yan dared not feed them spiritual spring water casually. She could only try to get the children out as soon as possible.
Luo Yan climbed the ladder in the dark and pressed her head against the entrance of the cellar to listen carefully.
There was no sound outside, so it must be unattended. I tried pushing the door, and it was very heavy.
Luo Yan went back and sat on the floor mat. Her stomach rumbled, and she grabbed some food that she had previously stored in her space to eat.
I had just finished eating when I heard another noise above my head.
Old Zhao opened the cellar door, climbed down the ladder, and turned around to see the little girl with her head wrapped in bandages sitting on the floor, her big, dark eyes staring at him intently.
Something's not right. Old Li just gave her the medicine, she shouldn't be waking up so quickly. Old Li Zhao walked over and gently patted Luo Yan's face.
Luo Yan was stunned by the photo, then grinned and revealed a big smile.
Old Zhao had sold so many children, but he had never encountered a baby who could still smile after being separated from her parents. He looked at Luo Yan in surprise.
"Little girl, what are you laughing at?"
Luo Yan seemed not to understand, but instead laughed even more happily, covering her face with her hands and meowing like a kitten, as if she were playing hide-and-seek.
Old Zhao was amused by Luo Yan and pinched her cheek.
"Silly girl, do you really think I'm playing with you? You'll be crying someday."
As he spoke, Old Zhao picked up a baby in swaddling clothes and started to climb the ladder.
Luo Yan got up and ran over to the man, hugging his leg.
Old Zhao looked down at the pendant on his leg and clicked his tongue, "If you don't fall, I'll take you back up."
Luo Yan continued to smile, her small hands tightly hugging the man's leg.
With Luo Yan hanging from his leg, Lao Zhao struggled to climb up, and even after they reached the entrance of the cellar, Luo Yan was still firmly attached to his leg.
She's just a little baby, she can't cause any trouble. Old Zhao walked back into the house with Luo Yan hanging on his leg.
Yan Yuan was surprised to see Luo Yan on Lao Zhao's leg.
"Who told you to bring her up here? Send her back right now."
Old Zhao laughed and said, "This is not my fault. The girl was awake when I went to the cellar to get the goods, and she clung to my leg and wouldn't let go."
Yan Yuan took Luo Yan off Lao Zhao's lap and put her on the kang (a heated brick bed), then raised the wine cup in his hand to Luo Yan's lips.
Luo Yan seemed to know nothing, opened her mouth and took a sip, her little face scrunched up from the spiciness, which amused Yan Yuan and Lao Zhao, making them burst into laughter.
Yan Yuan said to Lao Zhao, "Hurry up and deliver the goods. Be careful on the road and don't let the cops see you."
Luo Yan stared intently at the baby in Lao Zhao's arms until Lao Zhao took the child out of the house before she looked away.
Yan Yuan had never seen such a bold little baby before, and couldn't help but feel like teasing her. He fed Luo Yan a few more sips of wine, but to his surprise, the little baby didn't get drunk except for grimacing from the spiciness.
Yan Yuan picked up a piece of chicken with his chopsticks and gave it to Luo Yan, who clapped her hands and laughed.
"Here, this is for you."
Luo Yan reached out her little hand, grabbed the chicken, and put it in her mouth. She fiercely tore at it with her little baby teeth, drooling as she ate. Yan Yuan found it more and more interesting to watch.
Old Li came in from outside and saw Luo Yan and Yan Yuan sitting cross-legged around the kang table. He exclaimed in surprise.
"Why did you bring this girl up again?"
Yan Yuan didn't answer, but simply invited Lao Li to sit down and eat together.
Old Li found it amusing to see Yan Yuan feeding Luo Yan wine and meat, so he also fed her wine and meat, which Luo Yan accepted without hesitation.
Not only did the two men feed Luo Yan, but Luo Yan also fed them wine and meat, giggling innocently. When she was happy, she would jump around on the kang (a heated brick bed) and sing in a low voice.
Although Yan Yuan and Lao Li couldn't understand what Luo Yan was singing, they were completely absorbed in the atmosphere and kept laughing at her.
"Oh my, this girl is so funny, boss, why don't we keep her to entertain us instead of selling her?"
Being a human trafficker means constantly hiding and living a miserable life, but having such a cheerful person by my side makes me feel much better.
Yan Yuan was also tempted.
Since it was a gift from someone else and didn't cost any money, keeping it would only cost a little money to feed people. Yan Yuan nodded.
Old Li poked Luo Yan's little belly with his chopsticks, "From now on, you're the fourth child. Aren't you happy?"
Luo Yan looked bewildered, blinked, and clutched her stomach while laughing. Old Li chuckled as well.
"Such a cheerful, silly girl."
His tone was surprisingly indulgent, which made Luo Yan feel disgusted.
Luo Yan sang and danced, coaxing the two men into getting drunk without them realizing it, and they fell asleep slumped on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Luo Yan coldly watched the two of them, then snuggled into Yan Yuan's arms and closed her eyes.
Before long, Luo Yan started snoring softly.
Yan Yuan opened his eyes, looked down at the baby in his arms, frowned, and fell back onto the pillow to sleep.
In the middle of the night, the house was filled with loud snoring. Luo Yan tiptoed out of Yan Yuan's arms, quietly opened the door and went into the yard.
Luo Yan looked around by the moonlight and saw that it was just an ordinary house. The front door was bolted, so going through the front door was definitely not an option.
Noticing a dog hole below the gate, Luo Yan bent down and crawled out through the hole...
