Chapter 84 Your Little Girl is No Simpleton

With Luo Zhaoxing taking care of Xia Suya, Luo Yan felt relieved.

Having barely slept a wink last night, coupled with the ordeal during the day, Luo Yan couldn't hold on any longer and collapsed into a deep sleep on the bed.

Hua Li and Xiao Xiu underwent examinations and were found to have superficial injuries. After their wounds were treated, they were sent back to their wards.

Hua Li and Luo Shicheng did not hold a wedding after registering their marriage, but Luo Shicheng went on a mission, and Luo Zhaoxing and Xia Suya took the opportunity to visit Hua Li.

Hua Li recognized Luo Zhaoxing and quickly greeted him.

The woman was extremely ruthless, but fortunately, Hua Li's physical condition was much better than before. Protecting Xia Suya by her bedside didn't result in too much of a loss. Apart from some bruises on her arms and legs and a strand of her hair being pulled out, she was otherwise unharmed.

Xiao Xiu was awake. He had bumped his head and had a big bump, but he wasn't dizzy and could walk steadily. He was basically fine.

Xiao Xiu had no eyes for anyone else; she ran to the bedside, took Luo Yan's small hand, and looked at Xia Suya with concern.

Xia Suya rubbed Xiaoxiu's head to comfort her, "Yanyan is fine, she just fell asleep because she was sleepy."

Xiao Xiu held Luo Yan's hand and obediently lay down by the bedside, waiting for Luo Yan to wake up.

Hua Li picked up Luo Yan and placed her on the cot, then took off Xiao Xiu's shoes and let Xiao Xiu lie down next to Luo Yan.

Xiao Xiu turned to look at Luo Yan, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.

After the children were asleep, Xia Suya lowered her voice and told Luo Zhaoxing about taking a short break.

Luo Zhaoxing said, "I'll go find Cheng Yi about this. If he can't figure it out, I'll decide not to send Xiaoxiu back."

"If a father can't even protect his own child, then he shouldn't be acting like this," Luo Zhaoxing said firmly.

Hua Li knew nothing about Luo Shicheng's parents, but seeing how protective they were of other people's children, she couldn't help but feel sad. Her Yan Yan had suffered for so many years, why didn't they do anything about it?

Hua Li silently picked up the note with Song Lang's phone number written on it from the bedside table and said it to Xia Suya and Luo Zhaoxing.

"Mom, Dad, Comrade Song Lang came by before and specifically asked me to inform him when you wake up. I'll call him now."

Xia Suya said, "Don't go. Let your dad's bodyguard go instead."

Just then, there was a knock on the ward door, and Song Lang appeared in the doorway.

Song Lang could tell from Luo Zhaoxing's identity that he was no ordinary person. He reached out and shook hands with Luo Zhaoxing, introduced himself, and explained the purpose of his trip.

When Song Lang wanted to ask about Tian Chunhua, Hua Li deliberately walked towards the door to avoid suspicion. However, Xia Suya stopped her.

"We didn't intend to hide this from you. We didn't say anything before because we didn't know where to begin. Now that you know, why don't you stay and listen?"

Hua Li closed the door, sat on the cot, and listened to Xia Suya recount the deepest pain in the Luo family's hearts.

Xia Suya took a deep breath and slowly began to speak.

"My eldest son had a difficult birth and suffered intellectual impairment due to oxygen deprivation. So when he grew up, I asked an acquaintance to find him a girl from the countryside to be my wife."

Tian Chunhua is a relative of the Liu family in our compound. She is from Baoquan Village, Danggui County, Lincheng.

After the marriage, Tian Chunhua got along very well with my eldest son at first, and later she even gave birth to a daughter…”

At this point, Xia Suya paused for a long time before speaking again.

"When my granddaughter was about six months old, a man from her village, who was supposedly her cousin, came to us, saying he wanted to find a job in Beijing and asked Lao Luo and me for help."

At that time, let alone helping people find jobs, Lao Luo and I didn't even know what tomorrow would bring, so we didn't agree.

I thought her cousin had left, but I didn't know that her cousin hadn't left at all, and had even started an affair with Tian Chunhua.

Later, my eldest son passed away in an accident. Tian Chunhua said that she wanted to move out because she would miss him by staying at home, so Lao Luo and I agreed.

Tian Chunhua wanted to take her granddaughter away, and I thought that since she was her biological mother, I didn't object. I gave her a sum of money every month so that she could take good care of the child.

But I really overestimated her; less than a year later, my poor granddaughter was found dead in her home…

Xia Suya could no longer hold back her tears.

Song Lang sensed that Xia Suya was still hiding something, but since it didn't significantly affect the investigation, he didn't delve into it further.

Song Lang showed Xia Suya and Luo Zhaoxing a portrait and asked them if they recognized the person.

Xia Suya and Luo Zhaoxing shook their heads after carefully examining the evidence.

Song Lang then handed the portrait to Hua Li, who looked at it but didn't recognize it either.

Song Lang glanced at Luo Yan, who was sleeping soundly with her mouth watering, and placed the portrait in Hua Li's hands.

"Please take a look at Yan Yan when she wakes up."

Hua Li thought it was utter nonsense.

"Yanyan is still so young. Even if she knew me, she couldn't explain it clearly. Besides, how could she possibly know someone I don't know?"

Song Lang did not think so.

"Your little girl is no ordinary person. Don't be fooled by her inability to speak clearly; she might be the one who can provide clues."

Song Lang got up to take his leave, and Hua Li folded up the portrait and placed it next to Luo Yan's pillow before seeing Song Lang off.

Luo Yan slept until almost night before waking up, and her stomach was growling with hunger.

Hua Li and Xia Suya had just finished dinner with Xiao Xiu when they saw Luo Yan wake up. They took out the leftover food and fed it to Luo Yan.

Luo Yan didn't need Hua Li to feed her; she ate by herself with a spoon. Xiao Xiu was in charge of serving Luo Yan food, which made Xia Suya look at her with affection.

After finishing her meal, Hua Li took out the portrait given to her by Song Lang, opened it, and placed it in front of Luo Yan.

"Yanyan, who is this?"

Hua Li asked simple questions, and Luo Yan cooperated well.

"I'm scared, I'm scared..." Luo Yan threw herself into Hua Li's arms as if she were afraid.

Song Lang was right. Hua Li comforted Luo Yan for a while, and once Luo Yan was no longer afraid, he asked her again.

"Where has Yan Yan seen her before?"

How was she supposed to explain this? Luo Yan was troubled.

Suddenly, Luo Yan had a flash of inspiration and took out a marble from Xiao Xiu's pocket, throwing it at the old lady in the painting.

"Hit him, you naughty boy!"

Hua Li's expression changed, and she couldn't help but think of Qu Yingqiu, who had tried to fight her to the death at the supply and marketing cooperative but fell down while stepping on the marbles that Luo Yan was playing with.

Remembering what Song Lang had said, "Your little girl is no ordinary person. Don't be fooled by her inability to speak clearly; she might be the one who can provide clues," Hua Li looked at Luo Yan with eyes full of curiosity.

Luo Yan noticed Hua Li's strange look and knew she had aroused Hua Li's suspicion. She grabbed Xiao Xiu's hand and pressed the marble hard against the portrait, muttering to herself.

"Fight! Fight! Fight! It's bad..."

Could it be that Luo Yan was beaten after being stolen by the old lady, which is why Luo Yan grabbed Brother Xiu, who would stand up for her, to beat up the bad guys?

Hua Li felt she had discovered the truth.

How could she doubt a three-year-old toddler? Hua Li realized she was overthinking things and felt even more guilty towards her daughter, so she hugged Luo Yan and gently comforted her.

"Baby, it's my fault for not protecting you properly and making you suffer. I'm so sorry."

Hot tears fell on Luo Yan's face. Luo Yan breathed a sigh of relief. She had managed to fool them. She would have to be more careful in the future.

When Song Lang received a call from Hua Li, who said that the person who stole Luo Yan was very likely related to Qu Yingqiu, her former colleague from the supply and marketing cooperative, he immediately ordered a secret investigation of everyone around Qu Yingqiu.

The investigation revealed that Zhou Afeng, a distant relative of the human trafficker Yan Yuan, who had sneaked into the hospital and stolen Luo Yan, was actually the aunt of Qu Yingqiu's boyfriend.
