Chapter Fourteen: Hua Li Fights for Her Daughter

Liu Jingqiu knew that if Hua Li actually made that call, the consequences would be just as Hua Li had said: she would be punished whether she jumped or not.

Liu Jingqiu was caught in a dilemma. Seeing Hua Li carrying the child and heading straight for the guard post, he rushed over and knocked Hua Li down. He then fell to the ground, slapping his thigh and crying.

"You can't bully people like this! You want me to die in peace? How can you be so cruel?"

Caught off guard, Hua Li was knocked away by Liu Jingqiu, and Luo Yan, whom she was holding, rolled to the ground...

Luo Yan was wary of Liu Jingqiu's mischief, but unfortunately she was too young and too much warning would easily expose her, so she could only cover her head with her hands when Liu Jingqiu bumped into her.

Luo Yan fell face down, thankfully not hitting her head, but her nose hit a rock, and blood gushed out instantly.

Hua Li, disregarding whether she was injured in the fall, picked up Luo Yan and was so frightened that her hands and feet trembled.

"Baby, tell Mommy where it hurts..."

Luo Yan was picked up by Hua Li, and her nosebleed dripped onto the jade pendant on her chest. A strange sight appeared, and Luo Yan saw the space mentioned in the book.

However, the current situation does not allow it, and Luo Yan cannot enter the space. She blinked regretfully, pointed to her nose and ribs, and weakly cried out in pain.

The neighbors who gathered around urged Hua Li, "The child is so thin, don't let him break a bone, take him to the hospital quickly."

Hua Li wanted to go to the hospital, but she had no money.

Hua Li stood up and glared angrily at Liu Jingqiu.

“You’d better pay me back the money you owe me right now, or I’ll call the leaders and Director Fang of the supply and marketing cooperative right now and have them give me a fair judgment.”

Luo Yan's nose was bleeding non-stop, and she was clutching her ribs and crying out in pain. Liu Jingqiu was worried that something might really happen to Luo Yan, so she took out the twenty yuan she always carried with her from her pocket.

"I'll give you twenty back first. You'd better keep a good record of this, and don't try to deny it. I've kept all the records here too."

Snatching the money, Hua Li said fiercely, "Liu Jingqiu, you better pray that my daughter is alright, or don't blame me for fighting you to the death."

With that, Hua Li picked up Luo Yan and ran towards the hospital, completely unlike her previous state of being out of breath after just one step.

Kind neighbors escorted the mother and daughter to the hospital, while others rushed to inform Luo Shicheng. Liu Jingqiu and her daughter were ignored by everyone else.

"Mom, what's that?" An Xiaotong asked Liu Jingqiu, pointing to the blood-stained jade pendant on the ground.

Liu Jingqiu looked down and saw that it was a jade pendant with a broken rope. After looking around and seeing that no one was paying attention to her, she quickly bent down to pick it up and put it directly into her pocket without caring that there was blood on it.

At first, Luo Yan didn't feel anything, but as the nosebleed became more and more profuse, her weak body couldn't bear the burden, her vision blurred, and she fainted before even reaching the hospital.

Hua Li, clinging to life, carried Luo Yan into the hospital, only to collapse to the ground. Fortunately, neighbors were there and helped lift the two girls to the emergency room.

When Luo Shicheng heard that Hua Li and her daughter had an accident, he didn't really want to get involved, but his neighbors dragged him to the hospital, so he had no choice but to reluctantly go with them.

Hua Li woke up and before she even opened her eyes, she heard Liu Jingqiu's voice.

“I acted impulsively, but Sister Liu blames me for not handling work relationships well and demands that I compensate her and her daughter for their losses. Hua Li also wants to take half of my allowance. I can tighten my belt and bear it, but what about the child? I have no choice…”

Liu Jingqiu cried so sincerely that Luo Shicheng couldn't bear it.

"Don't worry, I'll talk to Hua Li when she wakes up."

Hua Li suddenly opened his eyes and glared fiercely at the blind and mentally bankrupt Luo Shicheng.

"Luo Shicheng, when did it become your place to make decisions about my affairs?"

Luo Shicheng frowned. "Hua Li, what exactly do you want?"

Hua Li forced herself to sit up from the hospital bed.

"Luo Shicheng, since we got married, I haven't spent a single penny of your money, but what have you done? You gave away my job and didn't care about the lives of my daughter and me..."

Now that Liu Jingqiu has injured my child, not only do you not stand up for us, mother and daughter, but you also want to give my money to this murderer. I ask you, what gives you the right? By what right do you make this decision for me?

"Because I'm your husband."

Hua Li scoffed, "Marrying a man is about getting food and clothing. Bah! You've never supported me for a single day, so where do you get the nerve to call yourself my husband?"

Liu Jingqiu was happy to see the two of them arguing and added fuel to the fire.

"Comrade Hua Li, what you said is incorrect. If you hadn't married Shi Cheng, you wouldn't be a military dependent. If you weren't a military dependent, it would be impossible for Shi Cheng to arrange a job for you at the supply and marketing cooperative. Therefore, Shi Cheng has the right to decide your job."

Besides, marriage isn't selling yourself. How can you disown Shi Cheng as your husband just because he didn't give you money?

That's outdated feudal thinking, it's unacceptable and must be discarded. I advise you not to sink deeper into these wrong ideas and harm yourself and others.

Liu Jingqiu slapped a huge compliment on Hua Li, leaving Hua Li speechless for a moment.

Luo Yan was woken up by the noise. She listened in a daze and knew that her mother was going to lose again, so she kept shouting with her eyes closed.

"Mommy, Grandpa, save Yan Yan, Yan Yan is in pain..."

Although Luo Yan's nose had stopped bleeding, it began to swell up, looking quite alarming. Coupled with the dried bloodstains on her front, she looked as pitiful as if she might die at any moment.

When Hua Li saw Luo Yan's condition, she struggled to get down and rushed over to hug Luo Yan, bursting into tears.

"Yanyan, it's Mommy's fault for not protecting you. It's Mommy's fault."

She shouldn't have given Luo Shicheng another chance because of Sun Bailing's pleas; she should have divorced him immediately.

"Luo Shicheng..."

Hua Li turned to look at Luo Shicheng with bloodshot eyes.

"Liu Jingqiu, I can tolerate you making things difficult for me several times, but I absolutely cannot agree to you bullying my child. I want a divorce from you, now, immediately."

Furthermore, Liu Jingqiu must repay all the money she owes me by 10 AM tomorrow. If you dare to bully an orphan like me again, I'll show you what it means to have nothing to lose.

In Hua Li's eyes, Luo Shicheng saw boundless hatred and a desperate, all-or-nothing resolve—a desperate gamble like a cornered beast fighting for its life.

This sight of Hua Li startled Luo Shicheng, and at the same time, he felt a vague unease in his heart.

"Okay, don't get agitated. I'll do everything you ask. You're not feeling well, so why don't you go back to bed and rest for a bit?"

Hua Li shook her head. "Luo Shicheng, unless you keep your word, I won't believe a single word you say."

Liu Jingqiu was the one who most wanted the two to divorce, and upon hearing this, she hurriedly cried out her innocence and stirred up trouble.

"You can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. What do you mean I made things difficult for you several times because of Shicheng? Besides, five years' salary adds up to several thousand yuan. How could I possibly come up with that all at once? Aren't you trying to kill me?"

Hua Li scoffed, "Listen to this, I, as his wife, have never called him Shicheng, but you call him Shicheng so fluently. You don't have money, but Shicheng does, right? Just ask him to help you."
