Chapter Sixty-Five: No one is more pathetic than him.

His daughter's face beamed with joy, and her melodious laughter was more beautiful than any other sound in the world. Luo Shicheng wished he could stay by his daughter's side day and night.

While Luo Shicheng was playing with Luo Yan, Hua Li took the large bowl of braised pork that had been set aside and went next door.

Hua Li knocked on Wu Cuihua's door and handed her the meat.

As soon as Wu Cuihua saw the meat, her face lit up with a smile. She pretended to decline for a few moments before accepting it.

Wu Cuihua was indeed a troublemaker and a nuisance, and bullying a three-year-old baby was simply shameless. But no matter what, Wu Cuihua saved her and her daughter when they were sick. If Wu Cuihua wanted to eat meat, giving her a portion was not a big deal.

Wu Cuihua went inside, poured the meat into her own bowl, washed Hua Li's bowl, put a bunch of washed grapes in it, and returned it to Hua Li.

The grapes were grown by Wu Cuihua herself. They were on the sour side, and no one in her family liked to eat them, so Wu Cuihua didn't feel bad about giving them away.

Hua Li saw that it was a transplanted wild grape variety and expected it to be very sour, so she didn't stand on ceremony and took it home.

Rinse the grapes thoroughly with clean water, place them in a ventilated place to dry the surface water, place a strainer on an empty canning jar, remove the grapes and put them on the strainer to crush them.

The juice and pulp are poured into the canning jar through a strainer, and the remaining grape skins and seeds are discarded.

Hua Li put a few spoonfuls of white sugar into the jar, added some cooled boiled water, and put the lid on. She then took the jar to the backyard and placed it in the hanging basket in the vegetable cellar.

Upon returning, seeing Luo Shicheng still playing with Luo Yan, Hua Li picked up her keys and went out.

Luo Shicheng hurriedly picked up Luo Yan and chased after Hua Li, asking where she had gone.

“It’s so late, and Chen Yuanshan hasn’t brought Xiaoxiu back yet. I’ll call and ask,” Hua Li said.

Luo Shicheng was embarrassed. "Chen Yuanshan said that Xiao Xiu will stay there tonight..."

While in the army, Chen Yuanshan specifically told Luo Shicheng that he wouldn't send Xiao Xiu back that night, so that he and Hua Li could get along well. However, he was so happy when he got home that he forgot to tell Hua Li about it.

Having been through it all, Hua Li could easily understand what he meant. He snorted and tried to send him away again.

Luo Yan spoke up just in time, "Daddy, take a nice bath..."

Luo Shicheng's anxiety subsided, and he immediately went to boil water.

After all, she was his daughter. Previously, Hua Li had bathed Luo Yan because she wasn't feeling well, so Luo Shicheng couldn't overstep his bounds this time. He prepared the water and asked Hua Li to bathe Luo Yan.

After Hua Li bathed Luo Yan and dressed her in a thin cotton bathrobe, Luo Shicheng took the bathrobe, used a towel to dry Luo Yan's hair, and then gently combed her hair.

Luo Yan picked up the mirror and looked at herself. Luo Shicheng looked at the two faces in the mirror, one big and one small, as if they were carved from the same mold, and felt another pang of pain in his heart.

Luo Shicheng had never given Luo Yan a second glance since she was a child. Besides, Luo Yan used to be thin and pale, and it was impossible to tell who she resembled. But these days, after eating and drinking well and gaining some weight in her face, she looked more and more like Luo Shicheng.

Luo Yan is clearly his own flesh and blood. He was so wrong before. Luo Shicheng regrets his actions.

Looking at Luo Shicheng's complex and regretful expression in the mirror, Luo Yan knew that the time was almost right.

After giving Luo Yan a bath, Hua Li also took a shower. When she came out, she told Luo Yan to go to sleep and then urged Luo Shicheng to leave.

His wife was gentle and virtuous, and his daughter was lovely and lively. The warmth of his home made Luo Shicheng reluctant to leave, but he still had to obey Hua Li's wishes and leave.

Hua Li took Luo Yan's hand and escorted Luo Shicheng to the destination, lest the man change his mind halfway.

Luo Shicheng shuffled out of his house, the moonlight on the ground as cold as frost. The lights on in every house illuminated his loneliness, and even the wind seemed to mock his homelessness. No one in the whole world was more pathetic than him.

"Dad!" Luo Yan caught up with him.

Luo Shicheng turned around excitedly, his eyes blazing with hope.

Luo Yan handed Luo Shicheng the military cap he had left at home...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to keep you here, I'm here to ignite your hope and then extinguish it myself.

Luo Shicheng took the hat with a disappointed expression, then hugged Luo Yan and kissed her repeatedly.

Goodbye, Dad!

Luo Yan waved her hand, and under Luo Shicheng's pained gaze, turned and ran towards Hua Li, who was standing at the door.

When Luo Yan ran back, Hua Li immediately closed the door and bolted it without hesitation, then took Luo Yan to bed.

Luo Shicheng stood outside the door, listening to Hua Li lower the latch. Through the crack in the door, he saw the lights in the room go out one by one, and his hopes gradually faded away.

The next morning, after Hua Li and Luo Yan finished eating and cleaned the kitchen, the mother and daughter went out together. As they opened the door, they ran into Luo Shicheng, whose eyes were covered in bruises.

Luo Shicheng tossed and turned all night, filled with regret and longing to go home. This morning, he rushed to the door to wait for the mother and daughter.

Fearing that Hua Li would refuse, Luo Shicheng quickly picked up Luo Yan and headed towards the kindergarten first.

Hua Li rolled her eyes, locked the door, and followed behind.

With Luo Shicheng escorting her, Luo Yan didn't need to worry about her mother's safety. As for work, the troublemakers had all been eliminated, and as long as Hua Li maintained good interpersonal relationships, there wouldn't be any major problems. Luo Yan decided that starting today, she would no longer go to the supply and marketing cooperative with Hua Li.

Teacher Zhang was afraid of Luo Yan, but today Luo Yan didn't cry and obediently let her take her. But who is this handsome man?

Noticing Ms. Zhang's reaction upon seeing him, Luo Shicheng took the initiative to greet her, saying, "I'm Yan Yan's father."

Teacher Zhang smiled and said, "I can see that, Yan Yan looks just like you."

Outsiders could see that the father and daughter looked alike, but he was the only one who acted foolishly, and Luo Shicheng was ashamed to face his daughter.

Looking at the bruises under Luo Shicheng's eyes, and seeing Luo Shicheng's ashamed expression, Luo Yan was very satisfied with her masterpiece.

Goodbye Dad, goodbye Mom.

Luo Yan waved, behaving unusually obediently.

Hua Li, who was initially worried that Luo Yan would cry, was relieved. However, Luo Shicheng was reluctant to let her go and only chased after her after Hua Li had walked a distance away, turning back every three steps.

"Dad must be really upset, right?" Luo Yan thought with a smile as she watched Luo Shicheng's retreating figure. "This is nothing. You'll have a lot more to suffer in the future."

When Luo Shicheng caught up with Hua Li, he felt a chill run down his spine and shivered deeply.

Chen Yuanshan took Xiaoxiu to kindergarten, but Xiaoxiu refused to go in.

Lin Qingping noticed the commotion and came over to say that Luo Yan had arrived. Xiao Xiu immediately let go of Chen Yuanshan's hand.

Chen Yuanshan wasn't sure if Luo Yan would come today. When he heard that she had already arrived, he asked Lin Qingping who had brought Luo Yan.

Lin Qingping replied that Luo Yan's parents brought it together.

A hint of sadness flashed in Chen Yuanshan's eyes as he said goodbye to Xiaoxiu.

Xiao Xiu waved dismissively and ran to the middle class to look for Luo Yan, but couldn't find her. Instead, he was pestered by An Xiaotong.

"Xiao Xiu, do you think my dress looks good?"

Grandma bought her a dress, and she was the only one in the whole kindergarten who had one. An Xiaotong proudly raised her head and asked Xiaoxiu.

Xiao Xiu tried to run away from An Xiaotong, but was stopped by Lin Qingping.

"Yanyan is in the junior class. Let's learn arithmetic first, and then we can take Xiaoxiu to see Yanyan, okay?"

Xiao Xiu pursed her lips, and Lin Qingping took Xiao Xiu's hand and led her to a seat.
