Liu Jingqiu staggered to the office door and pushed it open.
"Please help me find my child..."
Luo Shicheng ran out like a spring, rushing to the stairwell in two steps, only to see Luo Yan squatting on the stairs, her little shoulders shaking as she gripped the railing with both hands.
"Yanyan..." Luo Shicheng walked to Luo Yan's side and squatted down, placing his large hand on Luo Yan's lower back, afraid that Luo Yan might accidentally fall headfirst.
Luo Yan buried her head in her knees and refused to acknowledge Luo Shicheng.
Luo Shicheng thought the child was just throwing a tantrum and didn't know how to coax him, so he turned back to find Hua Li, feeling somewhat helpless.
Hua Li, her legs trembling, moved over and was both angry and anxious to see that Luo Yan was unharmed.
"You said you needed to go to the toilet, but then you ran off again. Why are you so disobedient?"
Luo Yan, I did something so shameful for you that I'd never done in two lifetimes, and you still have the nerve to scold me?
“Mom…” Luo Yan turned her head and looked at Hua Li pitifully, tears streaming down her face.
Luo Shicheng quickly stood up to make room for Hua Li.
Upon seeing Luo Yan cry, Hua Li felt a pang of heartache again. "What's wrong? Say something!"
As Hua Li was about to hug Luo Yan, Luo Yan immediately gripped her skirt tightly with both hands and started crying as if she had been pricked by needles.
Fang Aihua noticed something was wrong and tilted her head to look at the back of Luo Yan's skirt. Sure enough, there was a large wet patch on the back of her skirt.
Fang Aihua whispered to Hua Li.
“The child probably couldn’t hold his pee. Luckily, Liu Jingqiu sells children’s clothing, so I asked her to get the child a dress to change into.”
No wonder the child suddenly ran away; he must have been too shy to say anything...
It was all her fault for not noticing. Hua Li was filled with regret and took out a crumpled handful of coins from her pocket and put them into Fang Aihua's hand.
"This is all I have. I will make up the difference as soon as possible."
Luo Shicheng had excellent hearing, and since Fang Aihua's voice wasn't particularly quiet, he heard her very clearly. Seeing that the handful of coins, which added up to only a few cents, made him feel very uncomfortable.
"Director Fang, I'll go with you."
Luo Shicheng went downstairs first, and Fang Aihua immediately followed.
Chen Yuanshan didn't mind the dirt, picked up Luo Yan and carried her to the reception room, leaving Hua Li and her daughter to wait inside. He then followed them downstairs.
Luo Shicheng and Fang Aihua went to the children's clothing section and found that Liu Jingqiu and Liu Fengling's daughter, Qu Yingqiu, was not there. They asked the sales clerk at the next counter, who said that Liu Fengling and her daughter had left with Liu Jingqiu.
Fang Aihua said to Luo Shicheng, "They must have gone to discuss business. Let's go back and wait."
Luo Shicheng felt that he also bore some responsibility for the matter and could not leave it all to Liu Jingqiu to solve alone, so he asked Fang Aihua to go out with him to find Liu Jingqiu and the other two.
Liu Jingqiu pulled Liu Fengling and Qu Yingqiu to the alley behind the supply and marketing cooperative building and talked about the work.
“The higher-ups are cracking down on buying and selling right now, so we absolutely can’t let this get out. Sister Liu, how about this: let Daya go home for a few days first, and I’ll keep working here. When Huali can’t keep going, I’ll let Daya come back.”
There was no need for further explanation; Liu Fengling understood the meaning in just one sentence. But what if Liu Jingqiu was just giving her a perfunctory answer? Liu Fengling was still uneasy.
"Staying for a day or two is fine, but if it goes on for too long, the neighborhood committee will find out and they'll definitely make Da Ya go back to the countryside. You see..."
Liu Jingqiu sighed, "Alas, I have no choice but to do this. Hua Li is making a scene, and if something really happens, we will all be implicated."
Liu Fengling angrily said, "She gave you the job voluntarily in the first place, so why should you force her to give it back? If she can make a scene, why can't I? I'll make a scene too. I don't care about my life, let's see if she dares to fight me to the death."
As she spoke, Liu Fengling ran up the stairs outside the building, and Qu Yingqiu went to find Fang Aihua to assist her.
Fang Aihua and Luo Shicheng had just come out of the supply and marketing cooperative when they bumped into Qu Yingqiu.
When Qu Yingqiu looked up and saw Fang Aihua, she hurriedly grabbed Fang Aihua and ran upstairs.
"Director Fang, quick, my mom is going to jump off a building."
Fang Aihua stumbled as she was pulled, and her heart skipped a beat when she heard that an employee was going to jump off the building.
"Why would your mother want to jump off a building?" Fang Aihua asked anxiously as she ran upstairs with Qu Yingqiu.
"What else could it be..." Qu Yingqiu said angrily, "I was doing my job perfectly fine, and they told me I had to go home, so my mom couldn't think straight and..."
I don't care, if they really drive my mother to her death, I'll take everyone who harmed her with me.
Qu Yingqiu spoke through gritted teeth, which terrified Fang Aihua.
If someone really dies in the workplace, she, as the head, will definitely be in deep trouble. Fang Aihua regretted her laziness in letting Liu Jingqiu come to negotiate with Liu Fengling and her daughter, but it was too late.
The supply and marketing cooperative had two floors. Liu Fengling was standing on the rooftop on the second floor when she saw Fang Aihua appear and burst into tears.
"Director Fang, we are a widow and her child, and it's not easy for us. How can you send my daughter home after working for so long? You must do me a favor."
Liu Fengling is usually an honest and simple person, and Fang Aihua did not expect her to be so extreme. She tried to persuade her with a headache.
"Comrade Liu Fengling, there's nothing that can't be resolved. If you have any objections, let's sit down and talk. Why make such a fuss?"
Qu Yingqiu knelt down at Fang Aihua's feet and begged.
"Director Fang, you know my family's situation. My mother is in poor health, and her meager salary isn't even enough to buy medicine. My younger brother relies entirely on my earnings to support him. If I'm not allowed to work anymore, my brother and I will both depend on my mother for support. How will we survive?"
Luo Shicheng then came up and heard this, turning his head to look at Liu Jingqiu who had followed him.
Liu Jingqiu pretended not to notice the doubt in Luo Shicheng's eyes and waved to Liu Fengling.
"Sister Liu, didn't I tell you? I'm giving my job to Daya. Come here quickly, it's too dangerous for you to stand there."
Liu Fengling waved her hands excitedly.
"How can that be? You helped us, mother and son, how can you lose your job instead?"
I just want to ask that treacherous person who broke their word: since you promised to give me the job, why do you want it back? Does she even have any shame left?
As Liu Fengling's insults grew increasingly vulgar, Luo Shicheng spoke with righteous indignation.
“I gave the job to Comrade Liu Jingqiu, and I also asked Comrade Liu Jingqiu to return it. If you have any objections, you can come to me, but it is wrong of you to cause trouble.”
Liu Fengling knew Luo Shicheng, knew that Luo Shicheng was a battalion commander, and knew that he had taken good care of Liu Jingqiu. She was someone she could not afford to offend. She rolled her eyes and said.
"Then tell me, why do you take back the job you gave out? As a soldier, can't you even keep your word?"
Luo Shicheng always kept his word, and was immediately ashamed when Liu Fengling asked him this question.
Seeing this, Liu Fengling became even more demanding.
"If you don't give me an explanation today, I'll jump off this cliff. I'd rather be crippled and have you support me than let you bully me like this... Ah!"
Before Liu Fengling could finish speaking, she flew up and landed at Luo Shicheng's feet like a ball.
