Chapter Thirty-Three: Why do I feel like he's a scumbag father?

"My Yan Yan is so smart!" Hua Li cupped Luo Yan's little face and gave her a kiss, not enough, she gave her another kiss, making Luo Yan feel so happy.

Oh my god, I finally managed to fool them! Luo Yan was happy and gave Hua Li a sweet kiss in return.

Chen Yuanshan suddenly felt very awkward.

I'm going out for a bit.

Upon hearing this, Hua Li looked up, her smiling eyes still glistening with lingering tears. In that instant, Chen Yuanshan seemed to see through Hua Li the person he would never see again.

"Go home and rest. I'll take care of things here during your short break, so don't worry about me," Hua Li said.

Chen Yuanshan still had work to do, and besides, Xiao Xiu was injured because of Luo Yan, so it was only right that she take care of her.

Chen Yuanshan didn't say anything and went straight out the door. Hua Li didn't pay any attention either, sitting in her chair lost in thought.

Luo Yan naturally wouldn't disturb Hua Li's thoughts, asking him every now and then if he wanted water or something to eat.

Xiao Xiu answered every question, waved his hand to say no, and snorted through his nose to say yes. The two of them had a great time playing together.

Chen Yuanshan soon returned with a bunch of things, mostly food.

Hua Li's thoughts were interrupted, and she frowned when she saw how much Chen Yuanshan had bought.

"Xiao Xiu can't eat for now, so Yan Yan and I will go out and buy some food. You should take these things back with you."

"If you don't want it, just throw it away," Chen Yuanshan said and left.

Mom didn't want to owe Chen Yuanshan a favor, but favors aren't a one-time deal; she could find a way to repay them later. Luo Yan felt no guilt, picked and chose, took out a chocolate and fed it to Xiao Xiu, then ate one herself.

Luo Yan was amazed that the chocolate from this era was in no way inferior to that of later generations, with excellent taste and purity. After eating one, she wanted more and asked Xiao Xiu if she wanted some, but Xiao Xiu waved her hand.

Hua Li saw this and asked Xiao Xiu, "Do you still feel nauseous after eating?"

Xiao Xiu waved his hand.

"Don't like sweets?"

Little Rest, hum.

It was almost dinnertime, and Hua Li guessed that Xiao Xiu must be hungry.

"Auntie will go ask the doctor if you can eat. If the doctor agrees, Auntie will buy you wontons, okay?"

Luo Yan: "Eat."

Little Rest, hum.

Hua Li playfully rubbed Luo Yan's head, "Xiao Xiu is a patient, why should she listen to you?"

Luo Yan smiled innocently, and Xiao Xiu smiled along with her.

"You..." Hua Li pinched Luo Yan's cheek affectionately, "You little glutton."

Hua Li stood up and was about to ask the doctor when Chen Yuanshan returned with a lunchbox.

This scene was strikingly similar to the night Luo Yan was hospitalized when Luo Shicheng returned, leaving Hua Li momentarily dazed.

Chen Yuanshan handed the lunchbox to Hua Li.

"I asked the doctor, and he said I can eat a little during my short break. I bought some wontons, enough for two people. You can eat them. I'm really leaving this time."

Before Hua Li could speak, Chen Yuanshan strode away.

Wontons should be eaten while they're hot; they'll clump together and become unappetizing if left out for too long.

Hua Li fed Xiao Xiu some food first, and then finished the rest with Luo Yan.

The little girl Luo Yan ate almost as much as Hua Li. Hua Li was worried that Luo Yan would overeat, so after she finished eating, he held Luo Yan's hand and strolled around the ward.

As they were strolling around, the door suddenly opened, and Hua Li and Luo Shicheng, who had come to deliver the food, met each other's eyes.

Hua Li only gave Luo Shicheng two words: "Get out."

Luo Shicheng wanted to leave the lunchbox for Hua Li, but Hua Li pointed to the lunchbox on the table.

"My daughter and I won't starve, we don't need your fake kindness."

Luo Shicheng was speechless with frustration. "Hua Li, do you really have to talk to me like this?"

"Then how do you want me to talk to you?" Hua Li hated Luo Shicheng for helping Liu Jingqiu bully her.

If it weren't for Luo Shicheng backing Liu Jingqiu up, and if Luo Shicheng hadn't been so indifferent to Luo Yan, Liu Jingqiu would never have dared to harm such a young girl like Luo Yan.

On the surface, Liu Jingqiu appears to be the murderer who harmed Luo Yan, but the real culprit is not the heartless Liu Jingqiu, but Luo Shicheng, who despised the mother and daughter.

Now, Hua Li is like a hedgehog covered in thorns in his eyes, no longer the gentle and considerate person she used to be. Luo Shicheng knows that all of this is his own doing, and no matter how Hua Li treats him, he deserves it.

“I noticed you really enjoyed the dumplings last time, so this time they’re filled with water celery and pork. Save them for when you get hungry tonight.”

As Luo Shicheng spoke, he was about to put the lunchbox on the table.

"Take it away. If you don't take it, don't blame me for throwing it in the trash."

Luo Shicheng paused as he put down the lunchbox.

"You eat what Chen Yuanshan gives you, but you throw what I give you in the trash. Hua Li, you can't be so biased."

Hua Li sneered, "Did I say anything when you favored Liu Jingqiu back then? Why is it different when it comes to you?"

Luo Shicheng's favoritism towards Liu Jingqiu was more than just partiality; it was absolute doting. It's all her fault for being blind back then and believing Luo Shicheng's lies about repaying a debt of gratitude.

"I have absolutely no relationship with Liu Jingqiu..."

Hua Li spread his hands, "Comrade Chen and I are completely innocent. Moreover, I don't need to give him any allowances, I don't need to fix her water pipes today or take her child to see a doctor tomorrow. In particular, Comrade Chen is a kind person and has never had any intention of bullying you, let alone forcing you into a corner."

Mom is right, Luo Yan applauded.

Luo Shicheng felt ashamed after Hua Li's words, but he still managed to suppress his shame and say something.

“I know you’re angry. I’ll accept the punishment. As long as you and the child come back and give me a chance to make amends, I’d be willing to die.”

Hua Li never dreamed that Luo Shicheng would beg her so humbly, but she felt no pleasure in revenge, nor any joy in seeing the light at the end of the tunnel; only endless exhaustion.

"Luo Shicheng, let me say it again: if you really want to make it up to me and Yanyan, then please stay as far away from us as possible."

Luo Shicheng left dejectedly with his lunchbox, while Hua Li breathed a long sigh of relief.

The following day, Xiao Xiu was discharged from the hospital with the doctor's approval. Chen Yuanshan followed Sun Bailing's orders and drove to pick Xiao Xiu up from the hospital.

Hua Li persisted in her pleas, asking Chen Yuanshan to drive directly to the kindergarten; she had to get justice for her daughter and Xiao Xiu.

Chen Yuanshan parked the car on the street opposite the kindergarten, and he and Hua Li each carried one child into the kindergarten.

As soon as I entered the kindergarten, I was met by Wu Xiangru walking towards me with several people in uniform.

The moment Wu Xiangru saw Hua Li, a burning hatred burst forth in her eyes hidden behind her glasses.

"Luo Yan's mother, what good will it do you to report me?"

Hua Li was completely bewildered. "What report?"

Wu Xiangru snorted coldly and walked past Hua Li.

Chen Yuanshan lowered his voice and chatted with Hua Li.

"Those people seem to be from the Education Bureau, and there's also a military leader. I guess Wu Xiangru is in trouble this time."

Hua Li said, "I knew it! How could someone who lied to me and forced me to apologize to An Xiaotong be a kindergarten principal? Sure enough..."

Chen Yuanshan nodded, "However, it seems that Wu Xiangru misunderstood and thought that you were the one who reported her."

Hua Li didn't care. "So what if it's a misunderstanding? I just didn't have time. Otherwise, I would have reported her too."

Chen Yuanshan: "Hiss, who do you think reported Wu Xiangru?"

Luo Yan, I have a feeling he's a terrible dad.
