Chapter 24: Past Events

Gao Qi never thought in his life that he would have the opportunity to become a superior person.

A poor boy from the countryside made a stunning transformation and became the well-known boss in the Beijing black market in just a few months. All this seemed unreal, but it actually happened to him.

He knew who had given him a hand and saved him at the crossroads of his life. In Gao Qi's mind, Huo Qiqi was his life belief. Even if Huo Qiqi asked Gao Qi to die, he would not hesitate.

Speaking of which, Gao Qi is also a miserable person. He has been an orphan since childhood and grew up eating food from many families.

He was born in a small mountain village in the three northeastern provinces with a shortage of supplies. His parents died in a mountain flood while they were out making a living. The departure of his parents made Gao Qi feel the warmth and coldness of human nature early on. Life in the countryside was hard, and the village was also very poor, so little Gao Qi often went hungry. Sometimes, he couldn't even eat a meal a day. Once, Gao Qi fainted from hunger, and it was Ergouzi from the neighbor's house who found him and saved his life. In such a harsh environment, Gao Qi grew up slowly with his tenacious survival ability and desire to live.

Children from poor families have to grow up early. Gao Qi started working in the fields to earn work points when he was 10 years old. The team leader felt sorry for him and counted him as half a laborer, earning 5 work points. When Gao Qi was 15 years old, he had grown taller and stronger, and he could earn 10 work points by working in the fields. He was one of the few strong laborers in the village.

In those days, children in rural areas would date at an early age. They would get engaged before they reached marriageable age and then get married when they reached that age.

So even though Gao Qicai was only 15 years old and not yet an adult, he was able to gain a full centimeter with his strength and reputation, which attracted the attention of many rural girls.

Many people came to him and introduced him to suitable girls. Although there were many outstanding girls, no one could make his heart move. Until he was 18 years old, he met Zhang Zhiqing, a beautiful girl from Beijing, and Gao Qi was moved.

After meeting Zhang the educated youth, Gao Qi changed a lot. He no longer hung out with boys of the same age in the village. Instead, he often interacted with the educated youth from big cities and helped them with their work.

Gao Qi always helps Zhang Zhiqing with work when no one is around, because he is afraid that Zhang Zhiqing will ignore him because of the rumors in the village. He is willing to work hard and fight for the goddess in his mind.

Although there are many discerning people in the village, everyone says that Gao Qi is just a big fool and Zhang Zhiqing tricked him into working for free. How could Zhang Zhiqing, an intellectual who graduated from high school, look down on a peasant like Gao Qi?

Zhang, the educated youth, was well aware of Gao Qi's selfless attentions and the villagers' gossip. But as a sent-down youth from Beijing, how could she regard Gao Qi, a farmer with only elementary school education, no job, and no savings? Even worse, while enjoying Gao Qi's kindness, she was also dating another male educated youth from the courtyard.

Gao Qi is not stupid, he just hopes that this girl can accept him one day. Even if she can't, he still wants to protect this girl well.

"Zhang Li, what are you thinking? That big, silly guy is always pestering you. The whole village is gossiping about you two."

"Wang Cai, don't you know that the person I like is you? How can that big, stupid guy be worthy of me? I'm not blind or stupid. I just want him to be my free labor."

Zhang Li, the educated youth, did not expect that her words were heard clearly by Gao Qi who was picking grass for pigs.

It turns out that this girl has always regarded herself as a fool and a simpleton. Why is she so stupid?

Gao Qi suddenly wanted to leave the place where he had lived for 18 years. He wanted to go to Beijing to see what was different about the people there.

Gao Qi, through a hare, learned about Jing City from a 30-year-old educated youth. He learned that getting there required oxcarts, cars, and trains. However, Gao Qi had no money, and none of these modes of transportation, especially the oxcart, were affordable. However, Gao Qi believed that he had legs and a mouth, and that he could definitely reach Jing City.

In this way, Gao Qi exchanged all his valuables for some money and food. He relied entirely on his two legs, often hiding during the day and moving out at night, avoiding one inspection after another, and after more than a month, he finally reached Beijing.

I met Erzi by chance, and I really didn't expect that the first time I did something bad with Erzi, I would rob Huo Qiqi, my destined benefactor.

At first, Gao Qi was forced to help Huo Qiqi do business in the black market, but when Huo Qiqi gave him a reward that he could not even imagine, Gao Qi felt respected and recognized.

What's wrong with me being from the countryside? I can also find a way to make money, I can also feed myself, and people can call me Brother Gao. Gao Qi didn't understand why Huo Qiqi and Zhang Zhiqing had completely different attitudes towards him, a country boy, even though they were both from Beijing.

As expected, making money can make people happy. The busy life made Gao Qi almost forget about Zhang Zhiqing.

Huo Qiqi is obviously a generous and capable boss. Gao Qi always tells himself that without Huo Qiqi's appreciation, he would be a loach in a mud pit and would never be able to turn over. So in this life, Gao Qi has decided that Huo Qiqi will be his boss for life.

After following Huo Qiqi for just a few months, he had saved some money and bought a house in Beijing. If Zhang Zhiqing from the village knew what Gao Qi was like now, would he regret it? Even if he did, what did it have to do with Gao Qi?

So when Huo Qiqi asked him to expand the team, Gao Qi did it very seriously. He was not worried that Huo Qiqi would replace him with someone else, because he believed that Huo Qiqi would definitely give him the opportunity to grow.
