Chapter 37: A thief in the house is also a thief

After a pause, Qiao Xinyi seemed to be thinking seriously.

"His brain is full of water to begin with. If you give him more water, he might be so stupid that he won't even know to go to work tomorrow."

Qiao Laiwang: “…”

He knew he couldn't expect anything good to come out of Qiao Xinyi's mouth.

Chen Ju was almost mad at herself, so she turned around and went into the room. Qiao Laiwang looked at the four snorting people in front of him, and also got up and went into the room.

"It's delicious." Qiao Xinyi stood up and walked to the door of the room, raising her voice through the door, "How can there be such delicious soda in this world~ It's icy and cool~"

The next second, the sound of Chen Ju falling and fighting could be heard in the room.

After they took turns to boil water and take a bath, it was already very late. Qiao Xinyi drove the three people who were reluctant to return to their rooms back.

"If you're not sleepy, then I am. We all have to get up early tomorrow." Qiao Xinyi hung her bag on the wall and moved a chair to the head of her bed.

As soon as the lights were turned off, Qiao Xinyi lay on the bed with her face bared, laughing so hard.

She really started looking forward to tomorrow before she even fell asleep.

There was no nightlife those days, and the family compound gradually became quiet after ten o'clock. Later on, there would be no lights on in the entire compound.

In the summer nights, the only sound is the tireless buzzing of cicadas, but we have long been accustomed to such sounds.

It was not until 2:30 in the morning that a miserable scream suddenly came from the Qiao family, waking up all the neighbors in several nearby buildings.

The neighbors were terrified.

"Who is yelling like that in the middle of the night? It's so scary!"

"What happened? Why does it sound like Qiao Laiwang's mother's voice?"

"What happened to the Qiao family again?"

"What's Chen Ju up to again?"

All the neighbors upstairs and downstairs quickly opened the door and ran towards the Qiao family.

Aunt Zhang Hua was the fastest. When other neighbors came out, she was already knocking on the Qiao family’s door.

"Qiao Xinyi, what happened in your family?" Aunt Zhang Hua slammed the door of Qiao's house.

A few seconds later, the door of the Qiao family opened, and everyone crowded around the door, looking in.

"Qiao Xinyi, why is your grandma sitting on the bed and howling so late at night? That scream just now was your grandma's, right? Did we hear it correctly?" Aunt Zhang Hua asked.

Chen Ju fell to the ground with her hands on her legs, howling. When she heard what Zhang Hua said, she immediately shouted, "Oh my God! What a misfortune for our family! How could the Qiao family produce a beast like Qiao Xinyi! She is going to smash me to death!"

Chen Ju pointed at the chair at her feet that had been broken into several pieces, "This beast is trying to kill me with a chair in the middle of the night! Look everyone, she has smashed the chair into pieces!"

The neighbors were stunned when they heard this. "Oh, your new granddaughter is too cute."

"What are you talking about? Qiao Xinyi has a good temper!" Zhang Hua put her hands on her hips and retorted, "We can't just listen to her. Everyone has seen the Qiao family's excitement for so many days. Who doesn't know what kind of person Chen Ju is?"

Aunt Zhang Hua said to Qiao Xinyi, "Xinyi, don't be afraid. Tell everyone what happened. We have so many neighbors here. We will take care of it for you!"

Qiao Xinyi looked like she had just come to her senses, and when she spoke, her voice was filled with tears.

"Aunt Zhang Hua, I don't know what to say. My grandma told me to smash it, but I didn't do it on purpose."

Qiao Xinyi walked to the door and held Aunt Zhang Hua's hand, looking so frightened that her hands were cold and she was shaking all over.

"Child, don't be afraid, don't be afraid, just speak slowly." When the other neighbors saw that the child was so frightened, they didn't have the nerve to scold him.

"I was sleeping alone in the living room tonight. I was sleeping soundly when I suddenly heard some noise coming from the living room."

"I didn't expect that when I opened my eyes, I saw a person standing in the corner, reaching out to steal something from my bag hanging on the wall. I thought there was a thief in my house, and I was scared to death."

"I didn't think much about it at the time. I just picked up a chair and smashed it. I never thought that this thief would attack my grandmother."

"I just can't understand why my grandma would stay up late at night to steal my money? I don't work to earn a salary, and the few dollars I have are all saved by my mother from the sparsely populated areas for me to use."

"Uncles and aunts, I really didn't mean it. If it were you, and you saw a thief stealing your money in the middle of the night, wouldn't you also use whatever you have at hand to chase him away like I did?"

"To be honest, maybe the few dollars I had on me weren't a big deal to you, but they were all my belongings, and my mom was still in debt, so that was all she could give me. At the time, I was thinking, I would be heartbroken if these few dollars were stolen, and my mom would have to borrow money from someone else. I thought, even if I died, I had to keep these few dollars."

Upon hearing this, everyone squeezed in again. Looking inside, they saw that one of the straps of the shoulder bag that Qiao Xinyi brought back last night had come loose from a nail on the wall.

There were a few small pieces of money scattered on the wallet, each of which was a few cents. Among the money were a few black hair ties that girls use to tie their hair.

You don't need to ask to know that Qiao Xinyi didn't lie. It was really that old woman Chen Ju stole her granddaughter's things in the middle of the night, and ended up being smashed by her granddaughter as a thief.

"Chen Ju, you can't blame your granddaughter for this. You are an old man who is not a decent person. You stole your granddaughter's money in the middle of the night. You deserve it!" someone said.

Aunt Zhang Hua nodded. "He's really obsessed with money. He's been holding on to Qiao Laiwang's salary for 20 years, but it's not enough. He's even eyeing Qiao Xinyi's few dollars. Now that he's been caught, he's still blaming Qiao Xinyi. Ugh!"

"We are all family. I am her grandmother. What's wrong with me taking some money from her? How can we steal as family members?" Chen Ju didn't expect Qiao Xinyi to see her stealing. She was surrounded and scolded by the neighbors. She was completely embarrassed.

"You are such a thief!" Aunt Zhang Hua said, "I have never heard of anyone stealing money so confidently. If you say so, everyone will be as shameless as you and steal from their own homes."

“Even if it’s wrong for me to steal the money, then it’s right for Qiao Xinyi to hit me, her own grandmother?” Chen Ju stiffened her neck and her face flushed red. She yelled and groaned, “My leg must have been broken by her. I’m going to the hospital!”

"It was late at night, and the living room was pitch black. I just saw a figure. I don't have X-ray vision, so how could I know that my dear grandma was not sleeping at night and stealing my money?"

Qiao Xinyi said, "I smashed it but it was stolen, I didn't expect it to be stolen from you."

Anyone with a bit of common sense would think that Chen Ju really deserved it, and Qiao Xinyi was right in this matter.

But seeing the chair broken into pieces and Chen Ju sitting on the bed without getting up, holding her legs and crying in pain, finally an old man who was watching the fun stepped forward to take charge of the situation.

"Alright, stealing your granddaughter's money is not a glorious thing. Chen Ju, you still have the nerve to speak so loudly." The old man looked at Qiao Laiwang who had been standing aside without saying anything, "Hurry up and send your mother to the hospital. Your mother is old, don't let her get hurt."

"Even if I die, I won't let you go even if I become a ghost!" Chen Ju glared at Qiao Xinyi fiercely.
