After getting familiar with the Propaganda Department for a few days, Gu Chun began to draw sketches for propaganda posters.
I did consult Xu Lan during this period, but she always came to work half-heartedly. Not only was she often nowhere to be found, but sometimes she would say she didn't care just after the painting started, and that she would come to take a look after it was finished. It was obvious that she wanted to stand by and watch.
As a newcomer, Gu Chun had no choice. Fortunately, Director Fang understood her difficulties and did not put pressure on her.
So a sketch completely designed by Gu Chun appeared in Director Fang's hands.
"Your design is well drawn. You should discuss the text with Tian Ye. He has beautiful handwriting, so let him do the writing and you can just focus on the drawing."
"I understand, Director Fang. I'll start painting this afternoon and I expect to finish it in a week."
"Okay, then go ahead and get busy."
Gu Chun and Tian Ye worked together and spent four or five days to finish the propaganda poster. At that time, there was still one day left before the National Day on October 1st.
The next day when he went to work, the sky was dark and the wind and rain were coming. Gu Chun was a little worried.
"Tian Ye, Comrade Xu Lan, I'm a little worried that it might rain heavily. Our bulletin board..."
Xu Lan waved her hand. "What are you afraid of? It's raining, so it rains. A little fading is not a big deal. No one will look at your painting anyway."
Tian Ye frowned, "Comrade Xu Lan, this is our job, how can you be so perfunctory."
"Gu Chun, if it rains tonight, I might have to touch up the color tomorrow."
"Yeah, I think so too. If it rains heavily tonight, I'll come to the factory early tomorrow to touch up the colors. Your home is far away, so you don't have to come. I can just help you touch up the words then."
"Okay, thank you then."
Sure enough, it started to rain heavily in the middle of the night. Although the blackboard in the propaganda area was covered, there was too much rain and it splashed onto the painted poster, making it a little mottled.
Gu Chun went out early in the morning to the factory's publicity area to make some repairs. The air was humid, so the chalk drawings were not very expressive.
Gu Chun thought about it, took out his own paint, mixed it, and used colored paint to paint the picture of female workers working in the textile workshop.
At the same time, several leaders came to the textile factory. It happened to be the National Day holiday, and the municipal government leadership team went to the grassroots to inspect the work and brought reporters to do a report.
Director Liu was also present, and he mainly reported the work progress to the municipal party secretary Zhou Jianxin.
As I walked to the propaganda area, I saw a girl with a high ponytail and wearing a shirt and trousers drawing on the bulletin board.
A closer look reveals a vivid and lifelike painting, where the sweat on the workers' faces, their enthusiastic smiles, and even their skin texture are clearly visible. At first glance, one is instantly transported to the bustling work scene.
After finishing the last stroke, Gu Chun heard someone ask her, "Hello, comrade, are you a professional blackboard painter?"
She turned around and saw that the person in the lead was obviously in a high position. Even Director Liu respected him very much.
But she had done her job well, so there was nothing to be nervous about. She said:
"Yes, I'm the Propaganda Department Secretary. This poster was completed by me and my colleague. It rained last night and it's a little faded, so I came to fix it this morning. My colleague lives quite far away, so I didn't ask him to come."
"I think your painting is not drawn with chalk?" Secretary Zhou asked kindly.
Gu Chun nodded. "Indeed not. I used paint pens to draw it. The air is quite humid today, so chalk drawings are easily mottled. Using paint pens will make the drawings more vivid. Like this national flag, with its glittering red stars, it's quite eye-catching."
Secretary Zhou looked at the national flag with tears in his eyes. "You drew it so well. This picture of people saluting under the national flag really reminds me of the excitement I felt watching the flag-raising ceremony."
"Thank you for your compliment. We all have faith. As long as our hearts are filled with hope, the works we paint will make people feel the power of hope."
In fact, Gu Chun was sincere in what she said. She was very excited when she was drawing the national flag.
She came from the prosperous 21st century, and seeing that a country that was so backward just a few decades ago would one day become a great power in the East again, she could feel even more the power of human beings.
"Well said, very well said. This young comrade is truly thoughtful and cultured. What's your name?"
"Hello, leader. My name is Gu Chun."
"Hello, Comrade Gu Chun, I hope that as a young person with such ideals and determination, you can create more powerful works like this in the future."
"I will definitely work hard."
Finally, they took a group photo with the reporter's camera and the blackboard newspaper, and Gu Chun also got a seat.
After the leaders had left, Gu Chun finally realized that he had been bragging a lot. He really lost his mind when praised.
During the afternoon work, Director Fang walked into the office, clapped his hands and called a few people over.
"I just went to a meeting, and the factory director praised us. He said that the leader came to inspect our work this morning and saw the poster drawn by the Propaganda Department and gave it great praise. Gu Chun, you were here this morning, so you can tell us about it."
Just as Gu Chun finished speaking, Xu Lan's sharp voice rang out: "What! You met with the leader this morning? Just because of your painting?"
Gu Chun sneered in his heart, it’s none of your business.
"Yes, it was quite early in the morning, around seven o'clock. The boss came and saw me drawing and asked me a few questions."
"Oh, some people actually come to work at the factory at 7 o'clock in order to curry favor with the leaders."
Gu Chun frowned and was about to retort when Fang Cheng spoke first.
