"Ma'am, I'm so sorry, the child is gone."
Gu Dong stood at the door and heard the doctor announce to the woman that the child was dead.
The doctors and nurses came out with serious expressions. Gu Dong made way for them and waited until they left before she went in.
The woman's sister pulled her aside and said, "It's better for the child to leave than to suffer here. Please let him go."
The woman wasn't as hysterical as she'd imagined. She broke free from her sister's hand and touched the child's face. "Xiaobao, Xiaobao, don't sleep. Don't you want some chocolate? Mom will buy it for you."
"Sister, sister, isn't Xiaobao fine? Feel his face, it's still so soft. He's so well behaved, isn't he?"
The child was lying on the bed with his eyes closed. His body was still warm because he had just died.
It looks no different from a sleeping person.
The woman sat on the bed, holding the child and singing a lullaby: "Little baby, sleep well, mommy is here..."
The elder sister cried heart-wrenchingly, but the younger sister did not shed a tear.
"Ma'am, please let us take the man to the morgue."
The woman calmly put the child in the stroller and covered him with a cloth.
My sister and brother-in-law followed the doctor to go through the procedures.
The woman was alone and suddenly lost her strength and fell to the ground.
Gu Dong quickly ran over, helped her up, and let her sit on the bed.
There was still some warmth on the bed. The woman didn't look at Dong and hid herself in the quilt.
Her body was shaking.
Even though she didn't cry loudly, the sadness she felt was heavier than tears.
She seemed to be suffocated by the pain of losing her son.
The whole world seemed to be shrouded in dark clouds, and the sky was drizzling with sticky rain.
The woman grabbed the quilt with her hands, as if she wanted to tear it into pieces.
Gu Dong felt that her emotions were on the verge of collapse, so he didn't dare to leave and stayed with her in the ward.
I watched her sit up, make the bed, and pack the child's toys and clothes into the bag.
Then take those things and go to the morgue.
She and her sister discussed how to arrange the funeral for the child, and everything seemed normal.
But Gu Dong felt that her soul seemed to have been taken away from her and she was aging rapidly.
On the way back to the hotel, Gu Dong said nothing.
Returning to her room and sitting on her bed, she let her thoughts wander.
She ran out and knocked on Jiang Ren's door.
Jiang Ren had just finished his shower and came over in his bathrobe to open the door. "Gu Dong, what's going on?"
"Director, let's shoot that scene tomorrow. I've got the feeling."
Jiang Ren saw her expression and knew that something must have happened today that gave her some insight.
He made way for me: "Come in and sit down?"
Gu Dong nodded and went in. There weren't many things in his room, and it remained the same as when he first moved in.
There was a set of pajamas on the sofa. He must have been planning to wear them after taking a shower, but he didn't have time.
Gu Dong tried his best not to look away, but he still saw the water droplets from his hair dripping onto his exposed chest, and his whole body exuded a sense of laziness.
Jiang Ren poured her a glass of water and asked, "Tell me what happened to you today?"
Gu Dong took a sip of water and calmly told the story of the woman.
But her trembling voice still revealed her mood.
Jiang Ren moved closer, patted her shoulder, and said nothing.
Gu Dong sighed and said, "I now understand what it feels like to truly lose a child.
Simply crying scenes are not contagious."
The woman was not an actor and she didn't cry loudly, but Gu Dong could feel her extreme grief.
The next day, when they reshot the scene, Gu Dong really gave her best performance. Her thin figure was frozen on the screen, and Jiang Ren finally announced that she had passed.
The audience burst into warm applause.
Several little girls burst into tears and ran over to hug her.
Even though I knew it was an act, I was still drawn into the scene by Gu Dong when I saw it.
The audience felt heartbroken when they saw the poor woman lose her only relative in the world.
Gu Dong didn't come out for a while. He sat on the ground and let others hug him without moving.
Jiang Ren walked over, pulled her up with his strong arms, and sternly said, "Gu Dong, get out of this scene."
Gu Dong came back to his senses after being awakened by these words.
"Director, Brother He Ming..."
Jiang Ren patted her shoulder and said, "Get your composure right."
After saying that, he turned back to the camera.
Gu Dong was helped to sit on a chair and drank some water before he came to his senses.
He Ming felt a little distressed: "Dongdong, don't be too anxious, you just scared me to death."
I almost thought she was going to collapse.
Gu Dong forced a smile at him: "I'm fine, I was just a little too immersed in the role."
It is more difficult to perform in an experiential way.
But Gu Dong felt that this scene was the best one she had ever performed in her career.
For the first time, she felt like she had truly entered the character's heart.
Jiang Ren and the assistant director watched the footage and both agreed that Gu Dong's performance was excellent.
The assistant director also said: "Gu Dong's acting is so good that she doesn't look like a girl in her twenties."
"Well, she's very talented."
Jiang Ren already knew this.
Even when she had no acting experience, she was already very talented.
Now I have grown a lot and become better.
"Director, let me see what we just filmed."
The shots were beautiful, and Gu Dong's expressions and movements were very natural, his emotions flowing naturally.
She was satisfied with it too.
"Director, how is it?"
Jiang Ren said to her seriously, "You acted very well." There was pure admiration in his eyes.
Gu Dong's heart suddenly blossomed, and he smiled: "I think it's good too."
