Gu Xia Extra 1: Little Girl Liu Jiajia

In a small mountain village in the south, Gu Xia sat on a rock, cutting bamboo with a knife.

Bamboo and wood are the most abundant in the mountains, so Gu Xia has to make the bamboo or wooden boards he needs for fixing things himself.

Fortunately, he had learned some carpentry from Gu Daniu at home before, so he could still do these jobs.

Liu Mu came over with a cane: "Doctor Gu, it's time to eat."

He spoke with a heavy accent and Gu Xia couldn't understand a word he said at first.

After staying here for more than two months, I was able to understand most of it.

"Liu Mu, thank you." Gu Xia took the bowl of rice, which contained ordinary farm dishes, and he ate it with relish.

He is now living in Liu Mu's house, which makes it convenient to change his dressings and observe his bone recovery.

Liu Mu's leg is injured now and he can't go out to work, so he does rehabilitation at home every day and chats with Gu Xia.

Through him, Gu Xia also got to know more about this place.

This small mountain village has a small population, mostly elderly people and children.

Most of the young men have gone out to the mountains to find work and only come back once in a while.

The reason why Liu Mu didn't go out was that his grandmother was the only relative left in his family. If he left, there would be no one to take care of her.

He is twenty years old and looks rather rough due to his poor living conditions, but he smiles innocently, like a child.

He has a very simple personality and always asks Gu Xia what the outside world is like and whether all the people outside are as good-looking as Gu Xia.

Gu Xia answered his questions carefully and described the outside world to him.

Every time this happened, he listened very carefully.

"Would you like to go out?"

Liu Mu shook his head: "I want to accompany grandma."

No matter how good the outside world is, he cannot let go of his only relative.

Gu Xia expressed his understanding.

"Doctor Gu, I'm here." It was Liu Jiajia, the only girl who could speak standard Mandarin.

In fact, it is not accurate to say that she speaks standard Mandarin. Her Mandarin is just better than that of other people in the village.

According to Gu Xia, she learned Mandarin from a volunteer teacher.

There used to be a primary school in the village. Several volunteer teachers came from outside, and Liu Jiajia and other children went to school there.

The volunteer teacher came from the north. He spoke very good Mandarin and taught very seriously. Liu Jiajia also had a good talent for languages, so she learned standard Mandarin.

Later, the volunteer teachers left, the young people went out to find work, and the children also left one by one with their parents.

There are only a few children in the whole village now, so there is no need for a primary school.

Liu Jiajia is a special case. She only has grandparents but no parents. She now lives with her grandparents and uncles.

She now has to walk along a mountain road with other children, cross a mountain, and go to a primary school in another place to attend classes.

The teachers there are all locals, and their Mandarin is not standard. No matter how good your language talent is, if you lose the environment, you will gradually be lost in the crowd.

Gu Xia felt it was a pity. Such a smart child would definitely be well educated if he were in the city.

Therefore, he was very kind to Liu Jiajia and often talked to her, hoping to awaken her talent for language.

Liu Jiajia also likes Dr. Gu very much. He seems to be more educated than the volunteer teacher.

His Mandarin is also very good. Liu Jiajia hasn't heard such standard Mandarin for a long time.

He was also very gentle and often talked to her about many things.

In Liu Jiajia's little world, Gu Xia is the god who came down from the sky.

But she knew that Gu Xia was like the volunteer teacher, they were all going to leave and would not stay in this place.

The little girl also felt depressed.

The little girl held her chin with her thin arms: "Doctor Gu, are you leaving soon?"

Gu Xia smiled and asked her, "Why do you say that?"

"Because Amu's foot is almost healed, and Alin's grandmother is also getting better after taking your medicine. We are all healthy now, so the doctor is leaving."

As she spoke, her voice grew lower and lower.

Gu Xia patted her little head and said, "You are so smart. Now that everyone is well, the doctor will go to other places to help others."

Children are kind and when they heard this, they asked, "Are there no doctors in other places like ours?"

Gu Xia said yes: "So I have to go and treat them. If someone is like your brother Amu, doesn't he need a doctor?"

She nodded: "Well, it's like this..."

Liu Jiajia understood that there were many people like them who needed Dr. Gu, and she couldn't let him stay.

Gu Xia once again marveled at the little girl's intelligence. A child like this should not be buried here.

If possible, he really wanted to take her away, but there was no way. He couldn't make any guarantees for another person's life.

And his next destination was the southwest, where the war had just ended and it was not safe.

So he just silently regretted it and did not make any promises.

The little girl was mentally prepared for his departure, but on the day he left, she still cried her heart out.

Gu Xia asked her sister in Beicheng to buy a lot of things and gave them to the people in the small mountain village.

The gift for Liu Jiajia was even more special, it was a tape recorder and came with a lot of tapes.

It contains many short stories told by the host, which can help you practice your Mandarin by listening to them often.

There are also several boxes of children's English tapes, which come with books and dictionaries.

Gu Xia encouraged her to work harder on language skills, go to university, and become a diplomat in the future.

The gift was in a very large box, which the child could not hold. She looked so small and pitiful standing next to the big box.
