The next day was Su Tao's engagement party, and Su Tao started to get busy early in the morning.
Hu Xiao, along with the educated youth, and Jiang Dashi, had arrived early to help. Everyone knew Su Tao wasn't on good terms with He Xinyi, Li Yongmei, and the others, so they weren't invited. The educated youth were basically just the few of them who had gotten into university, along with Zhang Hongyan and the others who were close friends.
Everyone started to work on their own. The daughter washed and cut the vegetables, and finally handed them over to Su Tao to cook.
The men washed dishes, chopped firewood, and cleaned the house. The whole yard was bustling with people coming and going.
Su Tao calculated that there were about 18 people, with 9 people at each table, so nine dishes and one soup would be enough.
Su Tao prepared nine dishes, including braised chicken, braised fish, four-happiness dumplings, taro braised pork, and beef stew with potatoes, plus a duck soup. Some dishes, like the four-happiness dumplings and taro braised pork, had been prepared the day before and were steamed the next day.
The meal was ready, but Su Tao suddenly felt worried. He had only considered whether there were enough bowls and chopsticks, and had not considered whether there were enough tables and chairs.
The furniture in Hechuan's house is simple, with only a square octagonal table in the living room. Su Tao and his family usually eat at this octagonal table.
