Chapter 13: Planting Rice
Su Tao came to her senses and found He Chuan waiting for her in front. She was touched. He had promised her last time that he would never leave her alone again, and he had indeed kept his promise.
He Chuan stopped by the roadside and saw Su Tao standing there with a lost look on his face. He was hesitating whether he should urge him, but then he saw Su Tao smiling again and running towards him.
She seemed to be walking out of the morning light, the sunlight making her skin look white and tender, and a bright smile flowed in her curved eyes, making her look even more charming, lovely and touching.
He Chuan's pupils suddenly shrank, his fists clenched, veins bulged in his arms, and it seemed as if all his strength was trying to suppress his madly beating heart.
Su Tao saw the man wait for her to catch up, then turned and left without saying a word. She looked at the man's back with a depressed look on her face, pouted her lips and cursed, "Wood!"
The two of them walked one after the other and soon arrived at the rice fields yesterday.
"Wait a moment, I'll go get the seedlings." It took He Chuan a while to calm down the throbbing in his heart.
"Oh, grandpa, please come back soon. I'm scared to be alone~" Su Tao's voice was soft and tender, and he looked at He Chuan with a delicate look that said, "I'm scared of you."
The corner of He Chuan's mouth twitched. He had heard about her "heroic" deeds a few days ago yesterday. Looking at her pretentious demeanor, he couldn't help but smile and agreed, "He", with a hint of doting in his eyes that he himself didn't even notice.
While He Chuan was out collecting rice seedlings, Su Tao quickly pulled out the gloves and waders he'd exchanged for earlier from his cloth bag and put them on. The gloves and waders looked like ordinary rubber, but they fit so snugly, it felt like they weren't being worn at all; they were incredibly convenient and comfortable.
It was really something, which made Su Tao look forward to the system upgrade even more.
Just thinking about his own feelings for her made Su Tao feel a little discouraged. He thought that even though she hadn't had a boyfriend before, she was constantly pursued and had boundless charm. Even before the original owner went to the countryside, she was the center of attention, like the moon surrounded by stars. Why did it disappear after she arrived in Hechuan?
Is it really like the plot in a melodramatic novel, where no matter what the heroine is like, the male protagonist and the supporting male characters will only love her?
No, Su Tao shook his head vigorously. The male lead could be the female lead's, but the male supporting role had to be hers. Oh, no, the male supporting role had to be someone from a rich family. This mattered to her life and property. She absolutely couldn't let the female lead take the male second. Thinking of the system, Su Tao's eyes welled up. The male second couldn't be lost.
When He Chuan came back, he saw Su Tao with a pitiful look on her face, wanting to cry but unable to, and thinking that she was unhappy because she had been waiting for too long, he took something out of the bamboo basket behind him and handed it to her.
There was a steady sound of footsteps coming from the front. Su Tao knew that He Chuan had returned. Looking at the emerald green cucumber in front of him, he quickly took it and said happily, "Give it to me?" He raised his head and looked at He Chuan with a pair of watery eyes.
"Hmm!" A faint suspicious blush appeared on He Chuan's cheeks. He didn't know how he passed by the cucumber field, but he picked one for some reason and brought it back thinking that Su Tao might want to eat it.
"You can eat it directly after washing it!" He Chuan added, and strode towards the paddy field.
After Su Tao finished eating the cucumber, he rushed to He Chuan's side. He Chuan realized that Su Tao did not roll up his trouser legs and go out barefoot today. Instead, he wore a pair of pink waders and a pair of gloves of the same color on his hands, which made Su Tao look particularly cute.
He Chuan had only seen these sneakers on the youngest daughter of the Party Secretary's family, and they were a dark army green, not as pretty as Su Tao's pink pair. He Chuan once again felt the huge gap between himself and Su Tao. His eyes dimmed, and a bitter taste settled in his throat.
Su Tao leaned close to He Chuan, hugged his arm and shook it, "Didn't you say you would teach me how to plant rice?"
He Chuan was startled, then calmly withdrew his hand, forced a smile, and said in a hoarse voice, "Let me show you first."
