Chapter 15 Lessons (2/2)

"Wang Tiedan~Li Erya~" Su Tao stretched out his voice and called out. Could it be that he left while she was in a daze?

Suddenly, he felt someone pulling at the corner of his clothes. Su Tao looked down and saw two dark-skinned little kids with skinny bodies and dirty faces, about five or six years old.

"Wang Tiedan? Li Erya?" Su Tao leaned over and tentatively called out to the two kids. Seeing the two naive kids nod, Su Tao was devastated that he had to work with the two kids.

"Okay, Tiedan, Erya, where are we going to collect grass for the pigs?" Su Tao asked humbly.

Despite their young age, the two carrot heads were veterans at harvesting pig grass. Compared to other farm work, harvesting pig grass was easier, but the work points were low, making it suitable for the sick or children. Su Tao fell into this category. Well, Su Tao didn't count on those few work points anyway; she was just waiting for the college entrance examination to resume.

Tiedan talked endlessly about pigweed to Su Tao. "The most common pigweed here is goose intestine grass, which usually grows on the ridges of fields and on the ground. This grass is very cute, with fine hairs on the leaves and a unique smell."

"There's also a kind called sedgegrass, which usually grows in ravines or along streams. Unlike the short-shouldered sedge, it's a taller kind of pigweed, about 20 to 30 centimeters tall, with small white buds." Erya continued, "Today we're going to cut this kind of sedgegrass."

The two carrot heads accompanied Su Tao to the dormitory, took the bamboo basket and sickle, and walked towards Fang Qi by the river...

He Xinyi didn't expect that when she turned around, He Chuan disappeared. He had no intention of waiting for her to go with him. It was difficult for He Xinyi to catch up with He Chuan.

He Xinyi was running breathlessly, looking weak, but unfortunately He Chuan didn't even glance at her and continued to walk. There was no choice but to continue jogging after him. Looking at He Chuan's indifferent and ruthless eyes, it was chilling. He Xinyi didn't dare to go forward and talk to him.

Arriving at the digging site, He Chuan set to work with boundless energy and strength. He plunged his shovel into the soil, stomping it down with his foot. Then, with a pry, large chunks of earth were turned up, and soon a large area had been turned over. However, He Chuan was only responsible for his own area and seemed oblivious to He Xinyi's predicament, making no attempt to help.

He Xinyi struggled to dig her shovel into the mud, exerting all her strength to pry up a clod of earth. After just a few clods, she was already groaning in pain. Blisters formed on the callused areas of her palms, and her face burned from the sun.

The farm work during this period has made her hands rougher than before, and her face darker and darker. If this continues, she will probably be no different from the peasant women in the village.

In the past, she had been playing the weak role in most of the farm work, and other educated youth and villagers helped her with a lot of it. But this He Chuan had an aura that made her afraid to approach him.

She thought of what she had heard before. Su Tao said that He Chuan was a person with a cold appearance but a warm heart. She didn't do much farm work at all, and He Chuan did it all for her.

He Xinyi bit her lip, as if she had made up her mind. She was confident that she was no worse than Su Tao and decided to give it a try.

Turning around and walking towards the man on the ground...

When He Chuan looked up, he saw a woman looking at him shyly, and said in a delicate and coquettish way: "Brother He, I can't finish my work, can you help me?"

He Chuan got goosebumps all over his body and felt nauseous. He said coldly, "Get lost!"

He Xinyi's eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected He Chuan to reject her so ruthlessly. Filled with humiliation and anger, she asked, "Then why are you willing to help Su Taotao?"

He Chuan suddenly turned around, his eyes fierce, and he burst out with a burning aura, enveloping He Xinyi. "I do! You are not worthy to compare with her."

He Xinyi looked at those scarlet eyes and pointed at He Chuan, as if she had discovered He Chuan's secret. She said with some smugness and madness, "Ah~ You like Su Taotao, you actually like Su Taotao."

"How could Su Taotao possibly like you? You are just a toad wanting to eat swan flesh. Do you know who is behind Su Taotao? He will not allow Su Taotao to fall in love with others, not even Shen Ziqian..." He Xinyi wanted to say something but stopped herself, as if she had said something she shouldn't have said and stopped in time.

"Tell me, if Su Taotao knew that you liked her, would she still dare to approach you?" Before He Xinyi could finish her words, He Chuan rushed over and grabbed her neck.

He Chuan's eyes were cold, as if he didn't have a trace of human emotion. "If you dare to say anything in front of her, I'll treat you like this!"

He Chuan threw He Xinyi aside, took the shovel and bent it on his knees, breaking the wooden stick into two pieces, and threw it next to He Xinyi.

He walked away with a blank expression.

He Xinyi was terrified and confused, not knowing how to get to the resettlement site for educated youth.
