Chapter 152 Debt Collection 1 (2/2)

The man quickly calmed down and put on an enthusiastic look, "Come in quickly."

He Chuan followed Yang Lekang into the house and looked around. The house was a two-story Western-style building. The decoration inside the house was exquisite and luxurious. It seemed that Yang Lekang had lived a pretty good life over the years.

"Lekang~Who's here?" A sharp female voice sounded from the room on the left, and a woman walked out of the room. Her well-maintained face looked younger than her actual age, but her appearance was average, just like that, she looked a little younger.

He Chuan's pupils darkened. This woman used to follow his mother around all the time, and he still remembered her fawning manner. Why didn't his mother see through their hypocritical faces before?

"Liu Mei~Come here quickly, look who's here?" Yang Lekang said.

Liu Meiqian, who had a lazy look on her face, was suddenly stunned the moment she saw He Chuan, with fear and terror in her eyes and face.

Seeing that she was losing control of her emotions, Yang Lekang quickly reminded her: "He Chuan is back. You probably didn't recognize him after all these years. Why don't you hurry up and pour some tea?"

"Oh, oh. I'll pour tea." Liu Mei came back to her senses and turned around hurriedly to hide in the kitchen to make tea.

"Your Aunt Liu was so excited to see you suddenly that she's a little bit upset. Don't mind me." Yang Lekang smiled to cover it up, then changed the subject and asked with feigned concern, "Why are you back? Where's your mother?"

Where was his grandma? How could he not know what had happened to her? He Chuan didn't believe that Yang Lekang hadn't asked around. If his grandma were still around, he'd probably be unable to sleep or eat!

He Chuan looked at Yang Lekang with a half-smile and replied, "My father fell ill and passed away a few years after he went to the countryside. My mother was injured during childbirth and missed her so much that she became depressed and passed away within two years. I was able to return to the city only after I passed the G exam and was admitted to university."

He Chuan explained it in a few simple words.

Yang Lekang knew about He Chuan's mother. He secretly asked someone to go to the countryside to investigate. Otherwise, he would have been unable to eat or sleep in these years, always worried that He Chuan's mother would come back to look for him.

But after He Chuan's mother passed away, he didn't ask anyone about her anymore. He had heard that He Chuan and his sister were having a hard time in the countryside, and that dying there was the worst thing, so why would he care? But he never expected that the two children would actually survive, get into university, and return to the city.

Yang Lekang feigned sadness and said regretfully, "Oh, I never thought they would die like this." Then he forced a few tears and said with a caring look of an elder, "Son, how have you been through all these years? Come back now. If you have any difficulties, tell Uncle Yang. Uncle Yang will definitely help if he can."

Just waiting for you to say this, He Chuan grinned and said, "Uncle Yang, I'm really busy today and I want to ask you for help."

"Oh, you say." Yang Lekang said with pretended generosity. He couldn't go back on his word right after he had just agreed.

"Before my mother got into trouble, she entrusted you with a batch of antique calligraphy and paintings for safekeeping. I want to take them back now. You also know that I have been living in the countryside and have no source of income. Now that I am back in the city, I am short of money." He Chuan pretended to be embarrassed and said it with some difficulty. Everyone can act, it all depends on who acts well.

He Chuan has traveled extensively over the years and is no longer the young man he once was. He has acquired a set of superb "skills".

"Clang!" The sound of porcelain falling and breaking came from the kitchen. Yang Lekang deliberately took the opportunity to change the subject and asked towards the kitchen: "Liu Mei, what's wrong?"

A woman's voice replied from the kitchen: "I accidentally broke the teacup by slipping."
