Chapter 54: Fat Job (1/2)

Chapter 54: Fat Job

That evening, after dinner, Su Tao asked He Chuan to help pull a cart to deliver the three jars of wine to the homes of the Party Secretary and the team leader. The village chief's home was at the other end of the village, so he sent the wine to the Party Secretary and the team leader first before sending it to the village chief.

After sending the team leader and the branch secretary home, it was already late at night. The cold wind was howling, making the branches sway and rustle. The lights in the village flickered dimly.

Su Tao followed He Chuan closely, and didn't know how long they walked before they finally stopped in front of an ordinary mud-brick house. Although it was an ordinary mud-brick house, it was obviously newer and bigger than the others.

"Knock knock." Su Tao walked forward and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" A familiar middle-aged male voice came from inside the house.

"Village chief, it's me, Su Taotao." Su Tao shouted loudly.

The village chief opened the door and saw Su Tao and He Chuan behind him. He said, "What's the matter? Come in quickly. It's not safe to go out so late."

"It's okay, we have He Chuan." Su Tao walked into the house and smiled.

When He Chuan pushed the cart into the house, the village chief realized that Su Tao had brought something with him. He said in an unhappy tone, "What is this? Comrade Su, it's not fashionable to bring things like this these days."

Su Tao smiled faintly. "Oh, Village Chief, you misunderstood. It's not a good thing. The Hechuan family planted grapes, and they were all ripe and couldn't be eaten. I thought it would be better to use them to make wine instead of letting them go bad. They've just been brewed, and we can't finish them, so I sent you some to help us share the burden."

The village chief was tempted when he heard it was wine. If it were anything else, he would have immediately refused, but he loved wine. This kind of wine was hard to come by, and Su Tao was known to be a great cook, so he thought this homemade wine would be quite good.

The village chief took a drag from his pipe and said awkwardly, "Since it's not something valuable, I'll accept your kindness."

"Su Zhiqing, how is the Hechuan family living recently?" The village chief chatted about family matters in the usual way.

"It's pretty good, warm in winter and cool in summer. It's very comfortable to live in." Su Tao smiled.

The village chief was choked by Su Tao's careless words. Yes, it is a house with blue bricks and large tiles, the only one of its kind in the village. It was the golden nest where the landlords lived in the past. How could it be bad? Look at what he asked.

"How's the current work going?" the village chief changed the subject.

"It's pretty good. Now I just need to collect grass for the pigs. It's not very tiring. But it's getting cold now, and the wind is a bit unbearable." Su Tao said pitifully.

"Ahem~" The village chief nearly choked on a puff of cigarette smoke, tears streaming down his face. He'd only asked casually, but this girl was really good at taking advantage of others. She even disdained this kind of work. The village chief looked up and sized Su Tao up.

This girl looks quiet and gentle, and her voice is soft and sticky, but her words are so slurred that they can choke people to death. The village chief sighed inwardly, thinking that this little girl is definitely not suitable for work, and he started to think about it.

"Su Zhiqing, can you settle accounts?" the village chief asked tentatively.
