Chapter 9: Harvesting Rice (1/2)

Chapter 9 Harvesting Rice

The endless fields are full of autumn atmosphere. The breeze blows, rolling up golden waves, and the golden ears of corn rise and fall in the waves.

Su Tao followed closely behind He Chuan, but didn't speak to him again along the way. Walking in the golden sea, he looked around and saw villagers everywhere busy with the autumn harvest. Some were harvesting wheat, some were weeding, and some were planting rice in the fields. It was a scene of bustling activity.

"Oh, why did you stop suddenly?" The figure in front suddenly stopped. Su Tao was so focused on the scenery in the fields that he bumped into him unexpectedly.

"We're here. This is it." He Chuan turned around and pushed away the soft thing pressing against his back. He saw Su Tao rubbing the tip of his nose, which hurt him, and looking at him pitifully with his big watery eyes.

He Chuan didn't dare to look any longer, and threw down a note: "You wait here!" He turned and walked aside.

Seeing He Chuan walking away, Su Tao stamped his feet and said, "Hey, you just left me here alone?"

"Bad guy, stinky man!" Su Tao stood on the side of the road, kicking the weeds with his legs, cursing under his breath. The more he thought about it, the more aggrieved he felt. What was going on?

She was a fashion designer who had just established her own studio and had a bright future. But then, inexplicably, she was transported into a book and the body of a cannon fodder female supporting character, who had a miserable ending. She was simply trying to live a good life, to build a good relationship with her future boss and avoid tragedy later. But unfortunately, her heart was set on the bright moon, but it only shone into the ditch. The boss was so hard to approach!

As Su Tao thought about it, tears began to well up in his eyes. He suddenly squatted down, hugged his knees and sobbed.

A bang interrupted Su Tao's cry, and a sickle was thrown in front of her. Su Tao looked up and saw He Chuan holding a sickle in his left hand and a rectangular open wooden barrel in his right hand.

Su Tao cried even louder, as if she had suffered a great injustice, "I thought you abandoned me and left by yourself", she cried excitedly, while rushing over to grab the corner of He Chuan's clothes and wiping her tears.

He Chuan saw her eyes were red and swollen from crying, and she looked like a rabbit. He was at a loss for what to do. He had no experience comforting girls. His only sister was very sensible since she was a child and never gave him any trouble.

He sighed silently, "I went to get the farm tools, but I didn't leave you behind."

Is this man explaining to her? "Then you can't leave me like this again!" Su Tao looked at He Chuan with tears in his eyes.

"Yeah," He Chuan responded in a low voice. Once she knew his identity, she wouldn't want to get close to him anymore. He Chuan pouted in self-deprecation, revealing a bitter smile.

After getting He Chuan's answer, Su Tao burst into laughter, picked up the sickle, and urged He Chuan to go to the field.

Su Tao's trip to the countryside coincided with the busiest "double harvest" season in rural areas, when he had to bring home mature rice and plant late rice seedlings.

Su Tao was not stupid. Knowing that she had to go to the fields to work in the afternoon, she changed her skirt back into long-sleeved shirt and trousers before going out.

The rice field that Hechuan is in charge of is larger than others, so the calculated score will be higher than others.

He Chuan took off his old-fashioned military shoes, rolled up his trouser legs, and walked towards the paddy field.

Su Tao followed suit, taking off his shoes, rolling up his trouser legs to his knees, and stepping into the soft paddy field. The muddy field instantly wrapped around Su Tao's feet, making every step very difficult.

He Chuan looked back at Su Tao, who hadn't caught up for so long. He saw him struggling through the fields, one foot deep, one foot shallow. His calves were as slender and tender as lotus roots, gleaming like jade in the sunlight.

"Why are your trouser legs rolled up so high?" He Chuan frowned slightly, thinking that Su Tao's behavior was a bit indecent. Fortunately, there were only the two of them here. When he thought about what would happen if other men saw it, He Chuan felt inexplicably upset.

Su Tao stopped and said coquettishly: "I'm just afraid of getting my pants dirty, so I'll roll them up higher so it's easier to work!"

She just walked away without waiting for her or helping her, and she still had the nerve to scold her. Su Tao thought angrily as he looked at his muddy feet.

Su Tao finally walked in front of He Chuan. He Chuan was already bending over and cutting rice. His movements were very skillful and precise. One could only hear the rhythmic "swish, swish, swish" sound. He had cut a large area in a short while.

Su Tao followed He Chuan's example, holding the rice in one hand and chopping it with the sickle in the other. If he held too much, the rice would be too thick for Su Tao to cut; if he held too little, he would have to hold the rice tightly with his hand to make it easier to cut.

Before long, Su Yao felt backache and burning pain in his hands as he held the sickle, even though he hadn't harvested much rice.

"Ouch!" He Chuan was interrupted by a shrill scream. He turned around and found that Su Tao's sickle had fallen to the ground. One hand was tightly covering the other hand, with a painful expression on his face.

"What's wrong?" He Chuan hurried to Su Tao's side and took Su Tao's hand. He saw a long, thin knife wound that was constantly oozing blood. The blood flowed down his hand and dripped onto his clothes, but he didn't care.

"Beep, system activated, starting..." A mechanical voice sounded in Su Tao's mind. Before Su Tao could figure it out, He Chuan let go of Su Tao's hand, turned around and walked towards the roadside. He seemed to have thought of something and turned back to say, "Stay there, don't wander around, I'll be back soon."
