Chapter 28: Earn Small Money

The next morning, the long-lost sun finally showed up. The bright sunshine shone on the earth, and the coldness faded slightly.

More people were walking out of each household, and wherever the sun shone, clothes, quilts, and even some dried vegetables and radishes could be seen everywhere.

After breakfast, Chen Xingling asked Gu Qi to take his son's cotton pants upstairs to dry in the sun.

Gu Qi nodded and did as he was told.

Ying, who was working in the yard, rolled her eyes and snorted, "It's just a disease, but it makes you look like all your limbs are useless! Our Aqi's hands are used for drawing and designing, how can we let him do these kinds of miscellaneous work!"

Chen Xingling came out holding a large winnowing basket and just happened to hear these words.

"Why are the housework so mixed up? Before, when he wasn't at home, I couldn't get him to do any work."

Ying glared at him in dissatisfaction and said, "Men work so hard outside to make money, but you don't understand his hard work and still make him work. Do you still have a conscience? If he didn't work to earn money to support you, how could you live on starvation?"

Chen Xingling was too lazy to pay attention to her. He put the dustpan in the sun, ran into the room, and took out dried shrimps and another bag of dried fish.

The packaging bag was transparent. Ying saw it at once and her eyes lit up instantly.

"Where did these come from? Oh my god! Such beautiful shrimps and dried fish! The colors are so bright!"

Little Tiger, who was playing with the big black dog, saw it and ran over excitedly.

"Mom! Shrimp! I want to eat shrimp!"

Chen Xingling stopped his little hand and also stopped Ying who was approaching.

"I asked my grandparents to send these to sell. They can't be eaten for now."

Little Tiger blinked and asked, "Selling? How do you sell it?"

Ying stared at the dried fish and warned with a cold snort: "Who are you going to sell so many to? You can't just sell things randomly, or they'll catch you!"

Chen Xingling unscrewed the transparent packaging bag and answered: "I don't sell it on the black market, I only sell it to the neighbors nearby."

"That's fine." Ying grabbed a handful of dried shrimps and ate them. "Hmm! This tastes better than the ones sent before! How much is this? Do you know the price? My family hasn't eaten seafood for a long time. The Spring Festival is the day after tomorrow, and we haven't bought any seafood yet. The food market requires money and tickets, and I don't dare to buy it!"

As soon as the old girl raised her tail, Chen Xingling knew what she was going to do.

She calmly pinched a handful of shrimps and gave them to Little Tiger, saying, "Don't worry, there are still plenty at home, enough for you to eat your fill."

Then she opened the door, lit the small coal stove in the kitchen, and carefully carried it to the threshold and placed it upright.

Ying licked the corner of her lips and swallowed her saliva as she looked at the big red bag of shrimps.

"That villager - Hu Zi's mother, what are you doing walking around? I think it's better to keep such good shrimps at home. You can go to Yucheng in a few days. Your mother's family doesn't lack these little things. Besides, how much can you sell such a little bit for?"

After hearing this, Chen Xingling sneered inwardly.

Little Huzi is already three years old, and this is the first time he heard his mother-in-law call her "Huzi's mom"!

Usually, she is either "country girl", "country fishing girl" or "Ms. Chen", and sometimes even "hey" to "hey". Haha! This is definitely the first time that I have been so politely addressed like today!

It seems that this big basket of dried fish and dried shrimps is really attractive!

"I don't know how much I can sell yet, but I'll know once I sell some. I've kept a lot at home, so I don't have to worry about having nothing to eat."

Then she went into the kitchen, found a small pot, poured some rapeseed oil into it, and placed it on the small coal stove.

Little Tiger followed behind, shouting excitedly: "Mom! What are you doing? I want some more shrimp, can I?"

"Not yet." Chen Xingling laughed softly: "Help mom with the work first, and I'll give you more shrimp later."

Xiao Huzi nodded immediately: "Okay!"

Seeing the oil starting to heat up, Chen Xingling turned around and ordered, "Go to the kitchen and get Mom a small plate. The smallest one will do."

"Hey!" The little guy ran to the kitchen.

Ying glanced at the rapeseed oil in the pot and couldn't help muttering, "So much oil at once... like it's free!"

Chen Xingling ignored her and grabbed a handful of dried fish and threw them into the wok.

Soon, a fragrant smell with a fishy taste filled the air!

Little Tiger came skipping over and handed the plate to Chen Xingling.

"Mom! It smells so good! Mom, what else can I help you with?"

Chen Xingling smiled and replied: "You can ask Da Niu and Da Lang to come over to eat fried fish. Just say, one fish for each of them!"

Little Tiger cried "Hey!", stepped over the threshold and ran away.

The aroma of fried fish was so strong that when the wind blew, the nearby neighbors soon smelled it.

Fish and shrimp are very rare in winter. The fried fish has a fishy smell but a rich aroma that whets the appetite and instantly attracts the greed of neighbors who are busy or staying at home.

After a while, people from every household came out to look, and passers-by also stopped and peered towards the front door of the Gu family.

"Oh! Is it the daughter-in-law of the Gu family who sent seafood again? They are the only family around here that can eat seafood! I'm so jealous!"

"This smells so good! If I hadn't just had breakfast, I would have been so drunk! Haha!"

"It smells so good! How can fried fish smell so good? I haven't eaten meat for several days. My mouth is watering..."

Chen Xingling took out the fried dried fish, drained the rapeseed oil, and poured it into a small plate.

Ying watched from the side, swallowing her saliva.

At this time, Xiao Huzi came with a few children aged five or six, followed by a few older children aged seven or eight, all of whom ran out following the smell of fried fish.

Little Tiger stood on the threshold and shouted crisply, "My mom said, one fried fish for each child! One for each child!"

"Oh my God! Really? Really?"

"Little Tiger, give me one!"

"Little Tiger! I want one too!"

"I want one too!"

Chen Xingling distributed the fried dried fish to them, one small piece for each person. The children were so happy that they laughed happily and put the fish into their mouths without hesitation even with their dirty hands.

"tasty!"

"Wow! It smells so good!"

“It’s delicious!”

Ying was watching from the side, feeling extremely anxious and distressed.

"Ouch! Didn't you say you were going to sell it? Why share it with these little brats! In the blink of an eye, more than a dozen small fish are gone! Bang bang bang! Hurry up and call your mothers to buy some dried fish! Quick!"

When the children heard that there was something to sell, they scattered like birds and beasts and ran home in a hurry.

Soon, neighbors came one after another.

"Aqi's wife, our Dalang said that you have dried fish for sale. Is that true?!"

"Wow! I smelled it a long time ago! It smells so good!"

Chen Xingling smiled and said, "Try it first to see if it tastes good. If it tastes good, buy some and fry it. Just smoke it or fry it. No need to cook it. Dried fish don't have to worry about bones. You can eat it directly after frying it. Look, the fish heads have been processed before drying. It's very clean and hygienic!"

The neighbor aunt, auntie, and sister-in-law each took one, and the greedy ones took two more. After eating, they were all satisfied and smiling.

"Aqi's wife, how do you sell it? If it's too expensive, I don't think we can afford it."

Ying hurriedly said, "Just make it the same price as in the grocery store!"

The smiles on everyone's faces froze one after another, and they stepped back in embarrassment.
