Chapter 30: Brother-in-law Returns Home

The next day at noon, Gu Yiqi came.

Ying and Gu Miao happily surrounded him, holding hands and pulling his cotton-padded jacket, asking questions about this and that.

"Why did you come so late? It's Chinese New Year tomorrow!"

Gu Yi put down the bamboo basket on his back and pushed his mother and younger sister away with a smile.

"The only tractor in the village came into the city today. I came here by riding someone else's tractor. It snowed heavily a few days ago, and the mountain roads were slippery and wet. I didn't dare to come here!"

Ying asked angrily, "Why didn't you do it a few days earlier? The classmates who went to the countryside with you have already left! What are you the slowest at? Huh?"

"I..." Gu Yi looked around: "I'm busy! Mom, where's Xiao Huzi? Where's Huzi?"

"Uncle!" Little Tiger rushed out of the room, ran over happily, and shouted, "Uncle! Uncle!"

Gu Yi's eyes lit up and he walked forward happily, scooped up the little tiger, spun it in the air a few times, and threw it up and down a few times. Finally, he held the giggling little tiger in his arms and gave it a few kisses, "bobobo!"

Little Tiger was very ticklish and was tickled to the point of giggling again.

Gu Yi couldn't help but laugh along.

As soon as Gu Qi and Chen Xingling walked out of the door, they saw this warm and cheerful scene, and they couldn't help but smile.

"I haven't seen you for a few years. Ah Yi... you seem to be much more cheerful."

Chen Xingling blinked his eyes and whispered, "After my brother-in-law went to the countryside, he became taller, darker, and stronger. Maybe he has someone in his heart. He came less often this year, but he always had a smile on his face and looked very sweet."

"Oh?" Gu Qi stared in surprise, then smiled dumbly: "Really?"

Chen Xingling chuckled: "He didn't tell me, and I was too embarrassed to ask him about his personal affairs. But you can always trust a woman's feelings about things like this!"

Such words were too strange for the iron-willed man Gu Qi. Since the target of the love was his wife, he believed it instinctively.

Gu Qi thought about it, looking serious and thoughtful.

"I'm eleven years old now. It's time to find a partner."

Chen Xingling was amused by his serious face that acted like "an elder brother is like a mother" and couldn't help laughing.

"Brother! Sister-in-law!" Gu Yi came over with little Tiger in his arms. What caught his eye was the warm scene of brother and sister-in-law walking together with smiles on their faces. He was so excited and happy that he could not express it in words: "Brother! Long time no see!"

Gu Qi has never been good at expressing his emotions. Although he was very excited in his heart, he just smiled and nodded.

"Ayi, I'm here. Did you have a smooth journey?"

Chen Xingling had a very good impression of his brother-in-law and greeted him with a smile.

"Little Tiger, did uncle kiss you? Come on! Kiss uncle a few times too!"

The little guy immediately did as he was told and kissed his uncle's cheek with his little mouth, but he quickly frowned his cute little face and moved away in disgust.

"Uncle's face is so cold! No more kissing!"

Gu Yi laughed loudly, revealing a row of neat, snow-white teeth.

Gu Qi looked at his younger brother and found that he had changed a lot after not seeing him for a few years.

The pair of fair and slender hands that originally held the pen were now dark and thick. He was much stronger and looked a bit like a young man from the countryside, and he had long lost the elegant temperament of a scholar.

Thinking that he must have suffered a lot during his time in the countryside, I also thought that it is a good thing for boys to have the opportunity to go out and exercise when they are young.

Gu Yi pulled his elder brother aside to ask questions. After all, they were brothers. Even though they hadn't seen each other for several years, they were still warm and close.

The little tiger jumped into his father's arms, then hugged his uncle's thighs, and happily circled around them.

The two brothers chatted and teased Little Tiger, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.

Chen Xingling poured a cup of warm water and handed it to him.

"It must be cold on the way, right? Don't rush to talk, drink something hot first."

Gu Yi smiled: "Thank you, sister-in-law! I went out before dawn and I've been thirsty for a long time! Thank you!"

Then he drank half the cup in one breath.

Little Tiger teased crisply: "Uncle, you are a big buffalo!"

Gu Yi raised his eyebrows and asked, "Do you still remember the big water buffalo? Do you still remember the big buffalo that uncle specially took you to see last time?"

"Remember!" Little Tiger read aloud carefully: "Eat grass slowly, drink water with big gulps, till the land diligently and love to work, and snort with your big nose - moo, moo, moo!"

Gu Yi laughed and kissed the little guy on the head.

"That's amazing! You actually remembered everything!"

Then, he looked at Gu Qi and Chen Xingling and explained: "Brother, sister-in-law, this kid must have a talent for reading! I just read this sentence once, and he remembered every word of it in his mind!"

Gu Qi was a little surprised and smiled: "I have been in contact with him for a few days. He is naughty and active, and he speaks well, much more than his peers. I haven't noticed anything else about him, but his memory should be okay."

Chen Xingling looked at the cute little guy and said softly, "You are still a little kid now. Grow up first and learn to be polite and hygienic. The rest will come slowly. There is no rush."

My son is a restless person and I guess he is not a good student.

As a mother, especially the mother of a future villain, her greatest wish is to teach him to know and abide by the law, to understand benevolence and morality, and to be a law-abiding citizen. She cannot expect too much from other things.

Gu Yi rubbed Xiao Huzi's hair and asked with a smile: "Sister-in-law, I remember today is Xiao Huzi's birthday, right?"

Chen Xingling was stunned for a moment, then nodded.

"Yes... Little Tiger is on the eighteenth day of the lunar calendar, which happens to be today."

My son was born three years ago today, at the end of the Year of the Tiger, so according to his father’s instructions before he went abroad, I named him “Gu Yinmo”.

Because he was a little guy born at the end of the Year of the Tiger, later on someone started calling him "Little Tiger" and slowly it became a habit and the nickname came to him.

At this time, most people celebrate the second day of the lunar calendar instead of the second day of the solar calendar, so people usually only remember the day when the lunar calendar starts.

Gu Yi turned his head and shouted, "Mom, did you cook two red eggs for Xiao Hu today? It's his birthday today!"

During the years he went to the countryside, he would visit his mother from time to time and knew that all the big and small matters at home were arranged by his mother.

Although it is my sister-in-law who does all the housework, my mother has the final say on what to eat and use at home.

He once secretly mocked his mother for being an old-fashioned parent with a feudal mentality, but his mother had learned the stubbornness of a feudal old woman and wouldn't listen no matter what he said, so he simply didn't bother to say anything to her anymore.

However, when he wrote to or called his eldest brother, he would occasionally hint that his eldest sister-in-law was not living well in her hometown, and even reminded him that he must pick her up as soon as possible to avoid long-term separation that would affect the relationship between the couple.

Ying let out an "Ah?" and looked away.

"What kind of day are you celebrating, little kid? The old hen at home hasn't laid many eggs, and I managed to save a dozen or so to eat during the New Year."

Gu Yi curled his lips and whispered: "This is not a tiger's day~ If each of us saves one bite, it will be two eggs - boil two red eggs."

"Mom! I haven't had boiled eggs in a long time!" Gu Miao hugged Ying's arm and said coquettishly: "Why don't you cook a few and give me one."

When Ying heard this, she couldn't help but feel distressed: "What are you talking about! Cooking several at once, what are we going to eat for the New Year tomorrow or the day after tomorrow?!"

Gu Yi couldn't bear to see his nephew go without eggs, so he waved his hand and said, "Forget it, forget it. Keep your eggs for hatching the chicks."

Then he rummaged through the basket and took out a few tiny bird eggs.

"Huzi, look! Uncle dug out the bird eggs for you!"

Little Tiger exclaimed "Wow!" in surprise and stared at the bird eggs with shining eyes.

"Uncle, can I eat it? Is it delicious?"
