The first day of school was very simple. After receiving the textbooks, there was a short meeting and nothing else happened.
We are all young people, so there is no need to waste time talking about some disciplinary matters.
The head teacher chose a boy as the monitor, gave him the keys to the class for safekeeping, and told everyone to go home and prepare their textbooks carefully before school was over.
Chen Xingling looked at his schedule and found that he still had to go to class on Saturday morning, but he would have a day off in the afternoon along with Sunday.
"Just like when I was in junior high school, there are no classes on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, so Sunday is a fixed day off."
Jia Shuanghua asked curiously: "Where did you go to junior high school?"
"Here." Chen Xingling answered truthfully.
Jia Shuanghua smiled in surprise and said, "What a coincidence! Me too! But why don't I recognize you? We are about the same age, so we should have met in junior high school."
Chen Xingling laughed and told the truth: "I used to have very poor academic performance and was held back several times. It was not easy for me to get a junior high school diploma. When I was held back, you probably went to high school."
Jia Shuanghua was in disbelief: "...Really?"
"Yeah." Chen Xingling asked back with a smile: "Why would I lie to you! There should be teachers in the junior high school who still remember me, the king of repeating a grade. If you don't believe me, ask them."
Jia Shuanghua asked in confusion: "Then how did your grades improve - and how did they become so good?"
Chen Xingling blinked mysteriously and whispered, "I have someone with great help."
"Who is it?" Jia Shuanghua asked, "Who is so powerful?"
Chen Xingling laughed, "Secret."
There were no classes on the first day of school. Students from each grade received their books and left the campus.
Jia Shuanghua and Chen Xingling were traveling together, carrying their schoolbags and chatting as they headed north of the city.
"My parents let me ride a bicycle to school, but I'm not very good at it and I fall from time to time, so I have to walk here."
Chen Xingling smiled bitterly: "I was up for at least forty minutes this morning."
"No need." Jia Shuanghua asked curiously, "Didn't you take a shortcut to the alley? It would be at least ten minutes faster! You can't take the alley by bicycle, but it's still quite convenient to take the road."
Children who grew up in the city have been walking around the streets since they were young. The north of the city is far from the south, and it does take more than half an hour to go there by detour, but the shortcuts on the small roads can be much faster.
Chen Xingling was overjoyed and immediately took her to take a shortcut.
With the guidance of his new deskmate, Chen Xingling returned to the main gate of the shipyard in just over twenty minutes.
Jia Shuanghua’s home is at the end of Zhongshan Street where the shipyard is located. It is not far away, only two or three minutes’ walk.
The two agreed to meet at the main gate of the shipyard at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning to go to school together, then waved goodbye, one continued walking to the end of the street, and the other entered the shipyard gate.
It was almost noon, and some people who were not on duty were already rushing to the cafeteria with their aluminum lunch boxes. The air was filled with the aroma of food.
Chen Xingling was thinking about his son and ran hurriedly to the first floor facing the river.
Unexpectedly, before reaching downstairs, he saw Gu Yi walking on the tree-lined path with the crying little tiger. The older one had a helpless look on his face, while the younger one had tears and snot all over his face.
The mother's heart suddenly tightened and she rushed forward in panic.
"Little Tiger, why are you crying?"
When the little guy saw his mother, he immediately ran over and hugged Chen Xingling's thighs.
"Mom! I want kindergarten! I want kindergarten!"
Chen Xingling was confused and quickly pulled his little hand away and squatted down.
"Don't cry, don't cry, let's talk it over."
She took out a handkerchief from her coat pocket and wiped the little guy's tears and snot.
Gu Yi hurried over and smiled bitterly, "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry... I really can't coax him. He keeps crying and insists on staying in the kindergarten, but the teacher won't let him. Now it's almost noon, and I want to coax him to have lunch, but he won't listen and keeps crying and asking me to come to you. It's really a headache!"
Chen Xingling chuckled: "It's okay, it's okay. It must be tiring for you to watch him all morning by yourself, right?"
"No." Gu Yi laughed and said, "As long as he doesn't make trouble, I can take care of him all day long!"
"Mom!" Little Tiger grabbed her hand and said excitedly, "I want my cousins! If they weren't there, I would go to that kindergarten! There's a wooden horse and a big seesaw in it - I want them all!"
Chen Xingling asked in confusion: "What kindergarten? The kindergarten in the factory?"
As far as she knew, there was a small nursery and a kindergarten in the shipyard, which were specifically designed to help look after the children of the factory employees so that they could get to and from get off work on time.
Children who are able to go to primary school can attend primary schools outside the factory, and the human resources department will generally help arrange for them to attend the best primary schools in the city.
Later on, for some reason, the factory's nursery was no longer in operation, leaving only a kindergarten.
"Yes." Gu Yi explained: "Sister-in-law, it's over there! There are three or four classrooms inside, and a small sandy playground. The place looks quite big. In the morning, we went downstairs to play after eating. I thought we hadn't walked around the factory yet, so I took him around. Who knew that while we were walking around, we saw a group of little kids playing, and the little tiger jumped up to play with them. Who knew that while playing, he couldn't bear to leave. When the teacher took the other children back to the classroom, he insisted on following them in, and I pulled him back, and then I couldn't coax him anymore."
I see!
Chen Xingling laughed in silence: "I wanted to take a look at that kindergarten, but unfortunately I didn't have time yesterday."
"I want it! I want it!" Little Tiger jumped excitedly: "I want to go to kindergarten!"
Chen Xingling held his round head and explained, "We need to see if the teacher is willing to accept students of your age, because you are only three years old. If you are too young, the teacher will not agree to your admission."
The main reason why she did not agree with her son staying in her mother's home in Huiqiao Village was that she was reluctant to leave her son and wanted to keep him by her side and teach him well.
The prerequisite is that the kindergarten in the factory is willing to accept this little guy, so that she can go to and from school freely every day, and can take care of him and accompany him in the morning and evening.
Gu Yi said quickly, "Sister-in-law, I asked just now! I said my brother is an official employee of this factory, and I wanted to let Xiao Huzi come in to play with other children, but the teacher said that it must be approved by the factory staff. It seems that my brother has to apply in person."
Chen Xingling couldn't help but ask, "Can Xiao Huzi go to school at this age? How old are the children there? Are there any children who are about his age?"
"Eh?" Gu Yi thought for a moment and answered, "It seems like every one of them is taller than him... Only one or two are about the same height as him."
Chen Xingling looked at the little guy beside him and secretly felt that this situation was a little risky.
"No hurry, let's eat first. After dinner, I'll take him to the kindergarten to ask."
Little Tiger pouted: "Mom, I want to eat~~"
"You should behave better." Chen Xingling tempted, "As long as you don't act naughty and play well with the older brothers and sisters in the kindergarten, they will welcome you. You should take the initiative to tell the teacher that you can go to the toilet and eat by yourself, and the teacher will like you. And oh - the teacher will not like children who cry and disobey."
"Oh oh." The little guy nodded obediently: "Mom, I won't cry! I'll listen to the teacher!"
"Okay! Let's eat first."
