Chapter 22 Don’t mess with me, or you will always be unlucky

Tan Jianhua really shot himself in the foot this time.

After a long while, he finally managed to say, "How is that possible? I'm an appraiser at the County Cultural Relics Bureau, with a regular position! If you don't believe me, you can check it out. I've been wronged!"

"Unfair?" Jiang Mingxin's tone was gentle, but with an inexplicable sarcasm. "Then why did you fall into the ancient tomb, and in the middle of the night?"

"Student Jiang is right. How do you explain this?" the detective guarding him agreed. "If you were really going there to investigate, why didn't you go during the day?"

Tan Jianhua was speechless.

He really had a hard time explaining it. The truth was, he and his colleagues wanted to dig out the artifacts from the tomb first, bypassing their master and taking them directly to their superiors to claim credit. They didn't care whether the tomb needed to be excavated properly or not.

Anyway, there are many ancient tombs in western Henan, so there is no shortage of this one!

On the contrary, they have been working in the county cultural relics bureau for so many years, but their salary is still the same. Sometimes they have to follow their master to carry out rescue excavations to make up for the mistakes made by tomb robbers. They are covered in dust every day and still earn little money. This is too unfair.

But they were really unlucky. The ancient tomb in Jiangjiatun was from the Han Dynasty, just under a small hill. It was not large in scale, but there were several holes dug by robbers. They had dodged a few before, but they didn't expect there were still some in the bushes. Those tomb robbers were really abominable!

When Jiang Mingxin caught a glimpse of Tan Jianhua's eyes in the rearview mirror, he knew that this man had no remorse.

After a long silence, Tan Jianhua began his sophistry: "Of course we could go during the day, but we accidentally worked until the night. It was bad enough that we fell into the tunnel, and now you have to suspect us... I, I don't want to live anymore. I really can't do this job..."

As he spoke, he howled and blinked hard, squeezing out a few tears.

The detectives don't fall for his tricks. When it comes to acting, even street thugs can act better than him, but none of them are as eye-catching as him.

"I see you really don't want to do this anymore. Why didn't you inform the village chief in advance about surveying the ancient tomb? Also, where's the approval document from the Cultural Relics Bureau? Show it to me!"

Tan Jianhua howled even louder.

Seeing that he couldn't fool the police, he turned his attention to Jiang Mingxin.

"The innocent are innocent. You can't deliberately pin the blame on me just because you want to solve the case! But this damn girl embezzled a blue and white porcelain brush washer. It's an unearthed cultural relic. Are you not going to care about such a big thing?"

The detective was stunned for a moment and looked at Jiang Mingxin: "Is this true?"

Jiang Mingxin's eyes were filled with sarcasm as he stared directly at Tan Jianhua. "I asked you at the time, are you sure the blue and white brush washer is a dud? You said yes. Now you're biting me back? What? Are you trying to divert attention and cover up your own crimes?"

"No, I didn't! That, that wasn't a blind thing at all. I... misjudged it. But you must know it clearly, otherwise you wouldn't have taken us to look for it... You deliberately misled us..."

Tan Jianhua's speech was incoherent and his logic was confusing. The criminal police listened for a long time but couldn't understand what he said.

"You're an appraiser, yet you're blaming me for stealing something? You're the one who said that the blue and white porcelain brush washer was a dud. Aren't you the one who did it?"

Jiang Mingxin asked back calmly, looking calm and composed.

This is indeed a fact, and Tan Jianhua has no way of refutating it.

"No matter what, you have to hand it over! It's illegal to privately keep unearthed cultural relics!" For now, he could only stick to this point.

Jiang Mingxin sighed helplessly: "But I have already sold it."

"What? You actually sold it! Officer, you saw it! She's so bold! She actually dared to sell unearthed cultural relics. Arrest her immediately!"

Tan Jianhua suddenly became excited, as if he had grasped a sharp weapon to turn the tables, and became aggressive in an instant.

Jiang Mingxin looked innocent. "I sold it as a handicraft. You wrote it in the registration book yourself and refused to accept it. I sold it because I saw you didn't want it. How is this illegal?"

Tan Jianhua was dumbfounded.

The criminal police fell silent after hearing this. He had never encountered such a situation before and he didn't know how to characterize it. Besides, it was still unclear whether what Tan Jianhua said was true.

"Tan Jianhua, this is just your one-sided statement. Why should we believe you? If the blue and white brush washer is truly an unearthed cultural relic, and you lost it due to your own work mistakes, then the primary responsibility lies with you, not Jiang!"

Tan Jianhua was stunned.

Jiang Mingxin was very happy to see him being humiliated repeatedly. He suddenly curled his lips and said something to him using lip language.

"Don't mess with me, or you'll always be unlucky."

Tan Jianhua took a breath of cold air.

The cold air that had accumulated in the ancient tomb all night suddenly emerged from the cracks in his bones, giving him goose bumps all over his body.

At this moment, Jiang Mingxin was even more terrifying than the coffin in the tomb.

The detective continued, "You and your colleagues excavated an ancient tomb in the middle of the night, but there's solid evidence. Think carefully about what you're going to say during the interrogation. By the way, what's your company's phone number? I need to call your boss to inform him."

Tan Jianhua's face immediately turned pale.

County Public Security Bureau.

Looking at his three apprentices who were ashamed and dejected, Professor Zhang's face was gloomy and his mouth trembled with anger.

"You, you guys... what were you thinking? You knew there might be an ancient tomb there, but why didn't you report it? Why didn't you tell me? You dug it up privately. What are you trying to do? Have you thrown all the teachings you've given me over the years to waste?"

Professor Zhang was heartbroken and in disbelief. He staggered back suddenly, holding his heart.

Jiang Mingxin quickly helped him up and said, "Don't be so excited. Your health is more important."
