Chapter 3: God damn beast

Jiang Mingxin nodded slightly to them.

Neither spoke nor laughed.

Seeing that she was so aloof and a little too pretty, several middle-aged appraisers became strangely displeased.

"Director Bai, you must be kidding us. How old is this girl? She can already identify porcelain? How is that possible?"

Director Bai frowned. "Why not? The facts are right in front of us. Would I lie to you?"

"Of course you wouldn't lie. I'm just afraid some young woman, hoping to climb the social ladder, might have colluded with someone else and deliberately come to you with artifacts she got from who knows where, hoping to climb up the social ladder!"

This statement was almost as if he was calling Jiang Mingxin a liar.

As soon as he finished speaking, the other appraisers laughed maliciously, as if they knew everything and were even more powerful than Director Bai, the Director of the Public Security Bureau.

In the past, Director Bai might have really believed their lies, because Jiang Mingxin did have a bad reputation. Ever since she grew up to be a beautiful young lady at the age of sixteen, there had never been a breakup of rumors about her.

But now, Director Bai is filled with only anger.

"Bullshit! You have no idea what she's been through, yet you're slandering her. Are you even human? Get lost! I don't want you to appraise her today. Tomorrow I'm going to the provincial capital to see the leaders of the Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau!"

They never expected that Director Bai would react so strongly to a joke.

"Don't be angry, we were just talking casually."

Looking up at Jiang Mingxin again, they all showed a bit of fear on their faces.

But at the same time, even greater contempt arose in my heart.

Could this girl, so tender that she can be squeezed to make water, be Director Bai’s mistress?

No wonder he's so biased.

Jiang Mingxin just glanced at them and felt deep malice.

When they first met, she was sure that she had not offended them.

But sometimes people's malice doesn't need any reason at all.

These people had been sitting around doing nothing at the Cultural Relics Bureau for over a decade, having been forced into the position because Director Bai needed someone at short notice. It's unclear if they can identify artifacts, but they're incredibly skilled at spreading rumors.

Jiang Mingxin didn't take them seriously.

"Uncle Bai, the most urgent task is to find those unearthed cultural relics and hand them over to the country, right?" She spoke slowly, her voice soft and inviting, "Then let's go... I guarantee that what we gain from this trip will be beyond your imagination."
