The people talking in the Volga car were Captain Zhou Kui of Shendu and his cousin Zhou Ping.
Last time, Zhou Ping listened to him and went to the county public security bureau to cause trouble, and was detained for five days. This incident not only made Zhou Ping lose face, but also brought shame to the entire Zhou family.
Zhou Kui had never suffered such a loss since he became the team leader, so he put pressure on Bai Dingxian, hoping that he would suppress the case of Yan Laoer.
But the next day, the county court received documents submitted by the county public security bureau, and the public prosecution process was confirmed.
When Zhou Ping ran to his house and cried endlessly, Zhou Kui knew that someone from higher up must have given Bai Dingxian a heads-up, otherwise he wouldn't have the guts to pretend to obey him but actually disobey him.
He came here specially for today's trial, wanting to see who this Dong Ge is.
"I don't know, but he must be someone with a lot of background. I've asked around these past few days, and even the city bureau chief's son is extremely respectful in his presence, so it's clear he has a very powerful background."
Hearing Zhou Kui say this, Zhou Ping became anxious: "What should we do? Just let the second brother be sentenced? He is your cousin's husband and he has always been filial to you. Brother, you should have a conscience!"
Zhou Kui glared at her in annoyance. "Why are you so anxious? Did I say I wouldn't save him? I've already sent someone to the detention center to talk to him. Later in court, he'll overturn his previous confession and put all the blame on that guy named Jiang. No matter what the judge asks, he just has to deny it."
"What if Mr. Jiang doesn't admit it either?" Zhou Ping asked.
Zhou Kui sneered, "That's not something we should worry about. Lao Er was lucky this time and wasn't caught red-handed. As long as he denies anything, there won't be enough evidence to sentence him."
Zhou Ping was still worried. "But weren't his accomplices arrested? What if they all point to him?"
"Don't worry, I've already sent people to the detention center to take care of these people. They'll all recant their confessions today." Zhou Kui narrowed his eyes, took out a cigarette, lit it, and held it between his fingers. A smug chuckle laced his voice, "Fight me? Don't you see how long I've been around here... As long as I don't give my approval, none of them can do anything to me."
Three hours later.
Jiang Mingxin walked out of the court gate with a gloomy look on his face.
Xing Haodong and Jiang Bin followed closely behind, also with serious expressions.
None of them expected that Yan Lao Er and his accomplices would collectively change their confessions today.
None of the criminal police officers from the County Public Security Bureau could remain calm. If the judge and bailiffs had not been controlling the situation, they would have rushed over and beaten up these bastards.
Jiang Dawei experienced the feeling of being unable to defend himself. He roared in fear several times and tried to defend himself, but all he got was a warning.
Jiang Mingxin wanted him to go to jail, but he didn't want to see him bear false charges, and he also helped Yan Laoer get rid of the crime.
"There's something fishy about this." She turned to look at Xing Haodong.
Xing Haodong nodded. "I'm not surprised that someone would recant their confession, but a collective recantation is clearly premeditated. There must be a mole within the detention center and the county public security bureau. And the fact that they were able to conceal this from my informant suggests they're quite high-ranking."
"Can it be found out?" Jiang Mingxin couldn't help but look worried.
At first, she just wanted to punish Yan Lao Er, but she didn't want to touch him, which indirectly affected the interests of the entire tomb-robbing group.
In order to prevent the police from finding a breakthrough, they will keep this chess piece at all costs.
If it weren't for Xing Haodong's intervention, Yan Laoer would have been released long ago.
Xing Haodong looked into her clear eyes and whispered, "It may not be that easy, but I will definitely find a way to find out. Zhou Kui is definitely involved in this matter. No one else has such great ability."
Jiang Mingxin thought the same thing. "But he didn't even need to do it himself to accomplish this. It's hard to catch him. And the Morning Post report, could he have been behind it?"
"It's possible, but again, we have no evidence."
For the first time, Xing Haodong experienced the difficulty of handling cases at the grassroots level. The local relationships were so complex and intertwined that he encountered such great resistance even when just investigating a small-time tomb robber. This showed how difficult it would be for him to eradicate the underworld gangs in Shendu.
But this cannot defeat him. He must find out the clue about Yan Lao Er.
Jiang Mingxin stopped beneath a magnolia tree, looking at him with a hint of hesitation in his eyes. "I've thought of a way that might be able to completely eliminate the problem and prove Yan Laoer's identity as a tomb robber, leaving him with no way to argue. I just don't know if you dare."
Before Xing Haodong could answer, Jiang Bin spoke up, "Brother Dong, what's there for you to be afraid of? Tell me, what's your plan?"
Xing Haodong gave him a sidelong glance.
Jiang Mingxin curled his lips slightly. "I've always wondered why Yan Laoer gave those unearthed cultural relics to my father for safekeeping. Logically, people who value money like them wouldn't be afraid to hide the unearthed cultural relics at home. Or is it that there are so many things that their original hiding place can no longer hold them? So they have to take them out and hide them somewhere else, waiting for an opportunity to sell them off?"
Xing Haodong listened and nodded in agreement.
"Your analysis makes sense. How could they risk their lives to steal these cultural relics and leave them to outsiders for safekeeping? Aren't they afraid they might be embezzled? According to what you said, they probably did this simply to share the risk. Besides, the cultural relics found in Jiangjiatun are probably not the most valuable."
"Yes, someone like Yan Lao Er would definitely hide his most valuable cultural relics in a place he considers the safest." Jiang Mingxin stared at Xing Haodong with a burning gaze and smiled. "So, as long as we raid his lair, we'll definitely find evidence!"
