Jiang Mingxin did not act on impulse.
Xing Haodong had helped her a lot recently, so inviting him out for dinner would seem insincere, so she was thinking about finding an opportunity to invite him to her house for a simple meal.
Xing Haodong did not refuse, and even considerately drove the car to the vegetable market first to buy vegetables with her.
"What do you like to eat? Are you used to the food outside the city?" Since he was going to treat the other party, Jiang Mingxin naturally had to follow the other party's preferences.
"I love hot pot mutton, but we can't have hot pot this season. Don't worry, I'm not picky about food. I'll eat almost anything."
Although Xing Haodong's family was well-off, his father and grandfather were both soldiers, so he ate whatever was available, not being particular. However, he did have his own preferences, and since Jiang Mingxin asked, he spoke.
Suddenly, Jiang Mingxin spotted a good thing on a stall. He ran over, picked up a handful with a smile, and waved it at Xing Haodong. "Can you eat this? Houttuynia cordata, have you ever tried it?"
Xing Haodong was a little bewildered. "Don't even mention eating it. I've never even seen it."
The stall owner smiled and said, "This is Houttuynia cordata, also known as fish mint. It's not a local vegetable. A relative from the south gave it to me, and I grew it. But I don't like the taste, and you're willing to eat it. Buy a few pounds of garlic, and this will be a gift."
"Okay, then give me three pounds of garlic!" Jiang Mingxin immediately took out the money. She hadn't eaten Houttuynia cordata for a long time.
In her previous life, she was a native southerner. She had been eating Houttuynia cordata with her grandmother since she was a child. She liked to eat it cold with chili peppers the most. However, she never ate it again after being placed under house arrest.
Afterwards, Jiang Mingxin bought cucumbers, mushrooms, cabbage and tofu, and went to buy a few pounds of beef.
"I'm sorry to have cost you so much."
Xing Haodong did not rush to pay for her. He knew that Jiang Mingxin prepared this meal to thank him. Since she was willing to spend money, there was no need for him to spoil her fun.
But he really couldn't stand this Houttuynia cordata. Even though it was seasoned with a lot of seasonings, he almost vomited after taking the first bite.
Jiang Mingxin ate with big mouthfuls, squinting his eyes in comfort like a kitten.
"You really think this is delicious?" Xing Haodong frowned in confusion. "It's so fishy, like unscaled fish."
"That's better than the soy milk you have in old Beijing, right?" Jiang Mingxin couldn't help but retort, "Is there anyone who can drink that stuff without vomiting?"
Jiang Bin immediately raised his hands, "I can, I won't vomit!"
Xing Haodong's eyebrows twitched non-stop. "You want to show off your ability, right? Next time I come back to Beijing, I'll give you five bowls."
"No, no, forget it. It's okay to drink once in a while, but I can't stand it if you drink too much." Jiang Bin chuckled foolishly and quickly buried his head in eating, not daring to disturb them talking anymore.
Jiang Mingxin smiled and moved the plate of beef fried with garlic forward. "Then you should eat more of this. It should suit your appetite."
Xing Haodong nodded. "Except for the zheergen, I like all the others. Your cooking skills are quite good."
Jiang Mingxin was not modest. "That's right. I can cook a lot of dishes. It's not a problem for me to work part-time in a restaurant."
Hearing her say this, Xing Haodong immediately thought of her childhood experiences. "Are you working in a bookstore to earn living expenses for your senior year of high school? Renting an apartment here shouldn't be cheap, right?"
Jiang Mingxin smiled and said, "I know what you're worried about. Don't worry, Brother Fang treats me like his own granddaughter and pays me well. Besides, if I'm well fed, my whole family won't be hungry. It won't cost much."
"That's good." Xing Haodong didn't ask any more questions.
After dinner, he and Jiang Bin took the initiative to wash the dishes and let Jiang Mingxin go back to her room to rest.
At one o'clock in the afternoon, the three of them formally discussed the matter of searching Yan Laoer's hometown in the living room.
"Since we're going to do it, let's strike while the iron is hot. I think tonight is a good time. Zhou Kui certainly wouldn't have thought we'd act so quickly. I'll call my comrades and have them arrange for a small force to lurk near Pinggou Village. When the time comes, we'll pretend to capture a fugitive, then head straight for Yan Laoer's small Western-style house after entering the village and conduct a blanket search."
Xing Haodong dialed the mobile phone, discussed with the other party for two minutes, and quickly made a plan.
"Pinggou Village and Hougou Village are surprisingly close to each other. No wonder tomb robbers are so rampant." Jiang Mingxin leaned over the table to look at the provincial map that Jiang Bin had brought, and drew a few circles with a pen. "To be on the safe side, we have to notify the police. Otherwise, with only the military present, it would be easy for someone to take advantage of the situation."
Xing Haodong was a little surprised, "You know quite a lot."
He then made another call.
"So when are you planning to leave?" Jiang Mingxin tapped the table with his fingertips. "If possible, I'd like to go with you."
Xing Haodong's expression suddenly turned serious. "No, it's too dangerous. If it provokes a fight among the tomb robbers, I'll have to divert my energy to protect you."
He tried to make Jiang Mingxin give up, but she had already thought of this.
"Don't worry, I'm armed!" Jiang Mingxin pulled out a very compact crossbow from the cabinet. "I made this myself. The arrows can fire continuously, so I can protect myself."
"And I'm not going with you just to join in the fun. I'm... let's put it this way. With me here, you'll be able to find those hidden artifacts in the shortest possible time. This will greatly speed up your search and allow you to resolve the matter quickly."
Xing Haodong frowned, "How is this possible?"
Jiang Mingxin pointed to his nose and said, "If I say I can smell the scent of unearthed cultural relics, would you believe it?"
Xing Haodong was quite helpless, "Mingxin, stop joking."
"No kidding, everything I said is true!" Jiang Mingxin couldn't possibly say that she had special abilities that allowed her to search for rare treasures and valuable things like gold and silver, so she could only make up a reason.
