Chapter 166 Stealing Rice

Xing Jianjun picked up his books and walked out: "If you don't pay, we won't stay here."

Liu Dongmei hurried to hold him back: "Don't leave, just give your appreciation, you don't need to give too much."

They had lent all their money to Tian Xiaolan, so they probably had no money left. It was no big deal for them to stay with her. With Xiu'er not at home, she wouldn't be bullied as long as there were a few men around.

When Lu Zhaodi saw the two people pulling each other, she became furious. Her husband was still at home, but she brought him back so openly. He was indeed a restless man!

As soon as he entered the room, the door slammed, which scared Xing Jianjun.

Chen Shaohui shouted at the door, "You old woman, you're such a bad person. What's wrong? You can't even speak!"

Lu Zhaodi in the kitchen could clearly hear what he said. She was about to go out and curse him, but then she remembered that they were outnumbered and started pretending to be dead.

Xing Jianjun stopped Chen Shaohui who was about to push the door and advised him to clean himself up first. He had been caught in the rain on the way and the rain had now seeped into his body. Liu Dongmei tactfully walked away and waited for them to change clothes.

"Shaohui, how come you are still so impulsive after being in the countryside for so long? Change your temper." His family asked him to take care of him, because with his temper, something bad would happen sooner or later.

Chen Shaohui didn't take it seriously and pretended to listen: "Uncle, I've been revising it and you didn't even notice."

Xing Jianjun's eyes were filled with suspicion: "Then why did you rush over? Are you going to hit someone?"

Chen Shaohui said to him with a smile: "How could I hit anyone? I changed this bad habit a long time ago. You can see that I haven't hit anyone in such a long time."

Even if they did it, they would avoid him. His uncle would tell his family everything word for word, and his family would come and nag him. He hated reading this the most, so it would be better to send him something useful.

He had also seen changes in him over the past few years and asked Chen Shaohui for his opinion: "Your family said that as long as you're well, you can go back. Now it's almost done. Do you want to go back when the rain stops?"

Chen Shaohui poked his back teeth with the tip of his tongue and shook his head frantically: "No, I just like staying in the countryside."

The most important thing is that he is most comfortable with Xing Yifei. If he goes back, his family will arrange a marriage for him. It is better to be free here.

He reminded her, "If you want to go home, write to your mother. They miss you very much. Also, please open the letters they write to you."

He didn't take the letter. He was not interested in those accusations against him. Why should his life have to follow the route they laid out? From childhood to adulthood, all major life choices were controlled by his parents. Except for following Xing Yifei to the countryside, he did it without their knowledge. Now he just wanted to live according to his own wishes.

He pretended not to hear what Xing Jianjun said.

On this side, when Wang Cuihua and Chen Dong arrived home, they saw Wang Long sitting dejectedly on a chair.

Now that the person has been brought back, Hu Chunsheng plans to slip away. He doesn't want to get involved in their affairs. Now all he wants to do is go home, eat, and sleep.

They ignored him and let him go. Fang Guihua saw that her father had guessed that something was wrong, but she still asked Wang Long: "Dad, did you bring the rice back?"

Wang Long was furious when he saw the man behind his daughter. He frowned and pointed at Chen Dong: "No, why did you bring someone back? We are starving to death, and you still think you are dead."

Wang Cuihua said generously: "If there is no rice to eat, we can just go to the warehouse to get more. It's not like we can't afford to feed him."

"Go and get it? There will be people waiting there at night." Now he couldn't do anything to Tian Xiaolan. She took advantage of the people behind her and didn't take him seriously. After the people left, he would still crush her.

Wang Cuihua didn't know where his anger came from, and he took it out on her: "You didn't go find Tian Xiaolan?"

"Stop talking. We can't touch her now. Let's have sweet potatoes for dinner." Fortunately, he still had some sweet potatoes that they had given as gifts before, so he asked Chen Dong to cook them.

Chen Dong was now living under someone else's roof, so he went to cook. When he came out, he heard Wang Long and Wang Cuihua saying bad things about him, but he didn't interrupt them and just listened from the side.

He kept advising her not to be with him, saying there was no future. Chen Dong looked at the crack in the door nervously, wanting to know Wang Cuihua's attitude.

Wang Cuihua said, "Dad, please don't interfere when I'm with him."

Wang Lung gave up his persuasion and said, "Whatever you say, since we have nothing to eat after this meal, we will all eat dirt!"

Wang Cuihua saw Chen Dong standing aside and walked over to him, saying, "Don't listen to what my father says. There's only one way to change his mind about you: you have to provide food!"

From their conversation, Chen Dong guessed that his house had been robbed, and the thieves were so bold as to steal into the village chief's house.

He could also understand what she meant. She wanted him to go get rice. The only place with plenty of rice in the village was the warehouse. It was dangerous to let him do this. If he was caught, he would be beaten to death! Thinking of that scene, my heart trembled!

But now there are only two choices before him: leave Wang Cuihua's house and starve to death without money or food, or go steal and if he is lucky enough not to be caught, he may survive. Choosing between the two, a smart person will choose the one with a greater chance of survival, and he is no exception.

Chen Dong shouted: "I'll go!"

Wang Cuihua smiled and rubbed his hands: "That's right, when the time comes, you bring back some rice. Maybe my dad will be so happy that he'll agree to let you go back to the city!"

Chen Dong had heard this a few dozen times, and even if it was done, it didn't make him happy. He would still feel a little emotional when he heard it again.

After the chat, he went to the kitchen to take out the cooked sweet potatoes. After eating, Chen Dong first drew a sketch to study which line could enter the granary the fastest.

In the warehouse, beads of sweat appeared on Chen Dong's forehead as he hurriedly stole rice. When he looked up, he saw Lei Zhong standing at the door with an angry look on his face.

His mind went blank in an instant, and his body seemed to be frozen. The movement of his hands stopped abruptly, and rice spilled from between his loosened fingers.

"It's over, I've been caught. What should I do now?" He kept asking himself in his heart, and various possible consequences flashed through his mind. "Will they send me to the police? Will I go to jail? Why am I so unlucky that I got caught stealing for the first time..."

His face turned pale and his legs began to tremble involuntarily. He wanted to find a crack in the ground to crawl into, but there was nowhere to escape.
