Wang Xiuer noticed that her mother hung her head dejectedly.
"Don't be angry, Mom, you still have me." Xiu'er hugged Liu Dongmei and comforted her.
"Don't be afraid. If he dares to come, I'll beat him so hard that he can't get out of bed."
"Let's go." Li Weimin couldn't wait to lead the way, looking back at Tian Xiaolan from time to time.
On the way, Li Weimin saw that the book in her hand looked familiar, so he started to talk: "Xiaolan, this book seems to be given to you by your father?"
Wang Xiuer said "hmm" calmly.
Liu Dongmei, on the other hand, tugged at her sleeve and whispered, "Why are you being so perfunctory when I'm talking to you nicely?"
"I don't like him, so why should I care about him." Xiu'er rolled her eyes at Li Weimin, looking at him as if he hadn't seen a girl in eight hundred years.
"That's just how she is. Don't take it to heart." Aunt Dongmei looked at Li Weiguo with an apologetic smile.
"I like people who speak their mind." Li Weimin said with surprising calmness.
"Hahaha, my brother has loved joking since he was young." Tian Xiaolan slapped him. Li Weimin, whose shoulder was numb from the slap, had a face full of question marks.
Li Weimin didn't know what he had done wrong to let his sister do such a cruel thing.
Liu Dongmei: "I know."
Xiu'er didn't even look at Li Weimin, and walked slowly with Aunt Dongmei in her arms.
You can see rice fields on the roadside. Looking up at the endless fields, you will see a vast ocean of green. The breeze blows, and the rice waves rise and fall. The yellow rice ears are bent with smiles, and bursts of "rustling" sounds are ringing in your ears, as if playing a piece of music of harvest.
Li Weimin knew that asking Xiu'er would definitely not give him an answer, so he asked Aunt Dongmei in a roundabout way, "Aunt, is Dongmei going to take the rice thresher exam?"
Soon, they arrived at the door. The yard door was open. Aunt Guihua had just set the table and was pouring water to wash the pot in the kitchen.
"Mom, look who I brought back!" As soon as he entered the door, Li Weimin called out loudly, fearing that no one would know he was back.
Guihua wiped her hands with the rag apron she was wearing and came out to see what he was doing.
Behind Li Weimin were Liu Dongmei and her daughter Wang Xiuer. Everyone in the village knew about the troubles in Dongmei's family. Why did they bring her back in the middle of the day? Why didn't they go home for dinner?
Fang Guihua had many questions when she saw this scene, but she didn't ask them. "Dongmei, you guys are here to send Xiaolan, Weimin, and the others home, right?"
"No, I asked them to live with us." Li Weimin felt that he should shoulder the responsibility of being an older brother and took the initiative to take on the responsibility.
"Please sit down for a while,"
Without the host's order, the two dared not pick up their chopsticks.
"Mom, you don't know, his father beat Aunt Dongmei and Xiu'er, and even kicked them out."
Fang Guihua looked at Li Weimin with a look of disappointment, called him to the kitchen, and twisted his ear skillfully. "Their family's affairs are theirs. Are you the reincarnation of a Bodhisattva? We can't even have enough to eat, and you still have the time to care about others."
After waiting for a while, Li Weiguo said dryly, "I don't have to eat."
"What are you doing?!" Fang Guihua looked at Li Weimin in surprise after hearing what he said.
Li Weiguo broke free from Fang Guihua's hand. Although his ears were red, his voice was sincere. "I just don't want them to go hungry."
As if she couldn't believe her ears, Fang Guihua's eyelashes moved, and after a long while she said, "Okay, you are really my good son. We don't even have enough food to eat, yet you are so generous. You give food to others instead of your family. You will starve to death!"
He didn't say anything and there was silence for a moment.
Even with the door closed, voices could be heard throughout the house. Tian Xiaolan's throat was dry, and she drank several mouthfuls of water.
Tian Xiaolan explained with a smile: "Hahaha, from this we can see that our family is a harmonious one, there is no overnight hatred."
"Your family has a really good atmosphere." Liu Dongmei agreed, pretending not to hear the quarrel.
Xiu'er couldn't believe it, "Is this how harmony is used?"
The door opened with a bang, and Fang Guihua came out smiling. No matter how noisy she was, she still had to give the child face.
"Come on, come on, eat quickly, don't be polite! Treat it like your own home." Fang Guihua came out of the kitchen with two bowls and chopsticks and handed them to them.
There was a large bowl on the square table, with five roasted sweet potatoes of different sizes in it. This was what we had for lunch today.
Seeing Liu Dongmei sitting there motionless, he reached out and picked up a sweet potato for her.
Liu Dongmei accepted her kindness.
The sweet potatoes cooked in the earthen stove are dusted off. The outer skin of the sweet potatoes is golden brown and can be gently broken open to release wisps of hot air rising in the air. The golden sweet potato flesh is soft, sweet and delicious. When you bite into it, it flows out like melted honey.
Liu Dongmei shed tears of joy because of the delicious food. At Wang Goudan's house, all the delicious food usually went into the mouths of the mother and daughter, and she and Xiu'er could only eat the leftovers. This was the most delicious meal she had had in the past few years.
Tian Xiaolan noticed the tears in her eyes and asked, "Is it too hot? Let it cool down a bit before eating."
Liu Dongmei wiped her face with her hands and praised sincerely: "No, it's just so delicious."
Xiu'er was even more absorbed in eating.
Seeing how much the mother and daughter enjoyed the food she cooked, Fang Guihua raised the corners of her mouth slightly and said, "If it tastes good, just eat it."
"Dad, are you coming back for dinner?" Tian Xiaolan looked at her with her skin peeled off.
"He won't come back for dinner."
"Okay." Tian Xiaolan took a big bite.
After dinner, Liu Dongmei couldn't sit still and suggested going with Fang Guihua to cut grass and feed the pigs, leaving them at home to look after the house.
Li Weiguo snatched the bowl from Fang Guihua's hand and took it to the kitchen to wash it. He rubbed the bowl with the loofah and water, and washed away the black residue remaining on the bowl in a few strokes.
A bench was brought out and they sat outside the house. Wang Xiuer sat on the bench and read a book, while Tian Xiaolan walked around in the yard.
"Sister Xiaolan, what does this mean?" Xiu'er pointed to a piece of data and asked curiously.
Tian Xiaolan walked over and leaned over to take a look. "Well, I don't understand this either, but I don't think it will be tested."
"Okay." After hearing her words, although I was confused, I gave up on this knowledge point. There was still a lot of this book that I hadn't read.
Li Weimin saw Xiu'er studying outside. Her delicate jawline looked very nice. The sun was shining brightly outside, and even under the eaves, there was a wave of heat coming towards her.
"Are you thirsty? I'll pour you some water." As he spoke, he had already moved to the kettle, picked up the kettle, and waited for the order to bring the water over.
For several minutes, no one answered him.
Seeing him like this, Tian Xiaolan said, "Pour me a glass, Xiu'er, would you like some?"
"No, I'm not thirsty." Xiu'er kept her eyes on the book. She had an exam tomorrow, and she had to remember as much as possible now.
Seeing how hard she worked, Tian Xiaolan was also reading a book beside her, and for a while, the years were peaceful.
Li Weiguo fanned them and swatted mosquitoes to prevent anything from disturbing them.
