He preferred the flavorful beans to the bland porridge. He chewed them until he almost finished the food, and his stomach felt much better.
Liu Dongmei tried to hold back, but couldn't help herself and took the bowl to add more for him, "Another bowl?"
Wang Goudan smacked his lips and said to Liu Dongmei, "That's enough. It tastes okay. Bring me some wine and meat next time."
"good."
Hearing that she did not refute, he turned over proudly and closed his eyes, and then he felt a cool breeze on his back. He opened his small mung bean eyes and saw Liu Dongmei fanning him with a fan. She pulled out an unworn piece of clothing from the end of the bed to cover his stomach.
"Take it away." He was already sweating from the heat, and you were trying to cover him with something. You were trying to make him die of heat.
She glanced at him, her eyes flickering, and stammered, "Cover it up, what if you catch a cold?"
"Go away, don't block me here." Wang Goudan didn't even look at whose clothes they belonged. He raised his thumb and index finger, which were surrounded by several flies, picked up the clothes and threw them under the bed.
Liu Dongmei obediently carried the dishes and chopsticks and walked out the door. Outside the house, Lu Zhaodi was leaning against the wall and taking a nap, snoring loudly. Xiu'er had already cleared the dishes on the table and was reading a book under the eaves with her ears covered.
Liu Dongmei took the book from her hand and said, "You have an exam today, take a break!"
"No need. Is there any place for us in this family?" Wang Xiuer knew from childhood that her grandmother didn't like her. No matter how well her mother and she behaved, her grandmother always thought that she was targeting them because they didn't have children.
She learned from the teacher's class that having a son or a daughter does not depend entirely on the woman, but mainly on the man's chromosomes. The knowledge in the book opened the door to a new world for her. Many people in history became emperors and generals through knowledge, which made her more convinced that reading can change one's destiny.
Xiu'er was right. There were two rooms in the house. Since Xiu'er was born, they had been sleeping in the woodshed. There was a black spider weaving a web on the door frame of the woodshed. It was dark inside, with only a few faint rays of sunlight coming in through the windows on the leaking roof. There was only a narrow aisle with a bed.
Seeing that they were still pushing forward, Wang Xiuer did as she wished, took off her shoes, got on the bed and closed her eyes.
Liu Dongmei washed the dishes and took them to the kitchen. It was called a kitchen, but it was just an open-air kitchen with a small pot placed between two stones and a few bowls and chopsticks in a basin.
Not long into his sleep, Wang Goudan suddenly felt a sharp abdominal pain, as if an invisible hand were stirring inside his stomach. He tried to relieve the pain by taking deep breaths, but to no avail.
Then, he began to feel nauseous again, an indescribable sour feeling washing over him. He hurried to the toilet, leaned against the wall, and began to vomit. His vomit was mixed with undigested food residue and sour and bitter gastric juices. Every vomit felt like it was turning his internal organs inside out.
After vomiting, he did not feel relieved at all. Instead, he felt even weaker and powerless. Cold sweat began to appear on his forehead. His face turned pale as paper and his lips lost their color.
Wang Goudan felt dizzy, as if the whole world was spinning. His hands and feet went limp, and he shouted tremblingly, "Help me, I'm dying!"
His voice was very soft, and he had no strength left. He fell to the ground with a "thud", screamed, and lay on the ground with his legs spread out.
After washing the dishes, she wiped her hands on her apron and pushed Xiu'er, who was about to get up after hearing the noise, back to sleep. "Don't come, go to sleep."
