Chapter 8: Becoming a Thief and Getting Beaten Up in Twos

What was that sound?

Half asleep, Sheng Ping nudged Xu Qiao beside him.

Xu Qiao opened her eyes and glanced out the window.

A dark shadow flashed by, and Xu Qiao's eyes widened instantly, and she became fully awake.

Her body stiffened, and her voice trembled: "Okay, it seems like something dirty has floated by."

In those days, the most feudal and superstitious people were so aware of the words "dirty things" that it was as if someone had hit Sheng Ping on the head, and he instantly sobered up.

"What filthy thing!"

He lowered his voice, trying to hide the fear in his heart.

Xu Qiao was so scared that she moved closer to Sheng Ping.

"Squeak!"

Suddenly a gust of wind blew the wooden door open.

Xu Qiao trembled even more violently: "Didn't we lock the door?"

"It's locked..."

No sooner had Sheng Ping finished speaking than a figure darted in from outside, moving with great agility.

At first glance, Sheng Ping felt something was amiss.

But as soon as he spoke, another figure jumped out and started smashing things down on the two people on the bed. The hard objects hit them, and the couple screamed in pain.

The next moment, the person was kicked to the ground.

The people who came in later quickly added a few more strokes.

"Okay, don't kill him."

Everyone stop.

Sheng Ping and Xu Qiao fainted completely by the bedside.

"Find it quickly!"

Someone urged them on.

The group searched Shengping's room thoroughly, trying their best to make no noise.

"No, there's nothing there. It's probably hidden somewhere else."

"Should we continue looking?"

Here's fifty dollars!

The last sound instantly drew several other people over.

...

Sheng Qian went outside and watched as several figures slipped out of Sheng Ping's house and ran towards the back mountain, disappearing from sight in no time.

Sheng Qian chuckled and went back to get a good night's sleep.

The next day, the rooster's crow, accompanied by a scream, woke up the people in the neighborhood.

Sheng Qian quickly washed up and started cooking porridge.

At Shengping's home.

When Grandma Sheng woke up in the morning and didn't see Xu Qiao, she was still angry because she had been beaten by Sheng Hongyang yesterday. When she couldn't find Xu Qiao, she yelled at Sheng Ting and slapped her several times before coming over to wake her up.

Upon entering, one sees Sheng Ping and Xu Qiao lying on the ground, their faces bruised and swollen from being beaten.

The voice came from Old Mrs. Sheng.

Sheng Ping and Xu Qiao were awakened.

Ouch!

Xu Qiao twisted her waist, and just as she was about to get up, she felt a sharp pain that made her shiver.

Sheng Ping wasn't much better off; his shoulder was also sore from the beating, and when he fell off the bed, his leg was injured and he was hit hard several times.

He had just gotten up when he fell to the ground again.

The old lady was so frightened that her face changed color.

Sheng Hongyang came over and saw the mess in the room. He exclaimed in surprise, "Has the house been burgled?"

Sheng Ping suddenly turned around to look.

really.

Their house was ransacked. Sheng Ping recalled the scene from last night and finally realized what was wrong.

There's no dirty thing there, it's clearly a human figure!

"Quick, quick, check if anything is missing." Xu Qiao remembered the fifty yuan she had kept for her husband and hurriedly got up to look for it.

Grandma Sheng helped the person up to look for them, but they couldn't find them.

Xu Qiao burst into tears on the spot: "The fifty yuan we saved up is gone! That damned thief!"

Sheng Ping, his face pale, limped to the other side of the bed, glanced at the untouched floor tiles, and breathed a sigh of relief.

Immediately, an inexplicable anger rose within him.

It must be because Qian Yatou revealed their family's wealth that they were robbed.

When Grandma Sheng heard that fifty yuan had been stolen, she was heartbroken and joined in the cursing.

Villagers passing by could hear Old Mrs. Sheng's loud and forceful shouts and curses.

Sheng Hongyang's face was gloomy. "This matter cannot be left like this. We must report it to the brigade and catch the thief and get the fifty yuan back."

...

Sheng Qian stood by the door, drinking her porridge while listening to the sounds outside.

Shengping and his family came out, seemingly wanting to find the brigade to find the thief.

These days, without surveillance cameras and without seeing anyone, Sheng Ping's family's trip was fruitless.

After finishing a small pot of porridge, Sheng Qian stayed home and pondered how to make a living.

She knew she might be taken away tomorrow to take care of that half-dead person, so she needed to make plans for the next step.

First and foremost, I need to get my body back in shape.

Even if she has a wide range of skills, without a healthy body, it's all for naught.

The space she had was back to square one, and she had to start all over again.

As Sheng Qian pondered this, she slapped her thigh.

She decided to start with the smallest thing.

Sitting idly won't automatically bring wealth into your pocket.

Let's get right to it.

Sheng Qian went out for a stroll, hoping to find a way to make money by starting a small business nearby.

With just over a month to go until the Lunar New Year, people both inside and outside the village are busy making preparations for the holiday.

Only Sheng Qian lingered around.

She thought of the town, but Sheng Qian quickly wandered back.

There were no roads around the village, so the only option was to go to the town.

The Long family will be coming to pick them up tomorrow, right?

Sheng Qian didn't rest when she got home. She ran around in the narrow open space, sometimes practicing Tai Chi, and sometimes punching the air.

The original owner of this body was too weak. Sheng Qian fought for an hour and was already panting heavily.

The soul has the quality, but the body's quality can't keep up. No matter how powerful a person was before, once they enter this body, they are no different from a piece of trash.

Sheng Qian rested for a while and then got up again.

At noon, Sheng Qian found some sweet potatoes at home, cooked some rice, and then went to the foot of the mountain to find wild vegetables.
