Xian was heartbroken. Randy's attempts to comfort him had no effect whatsoever; all he knew was that his younger brother was dead, his beloved brother was gone.
He was willing to die for him; during the hunt, he shielded him from an attack and was injured. The feeling was indescribable.
"Chieftain, you should go back first. Let me stay here alone. I can't let you get infected with parasites. The tribe needs you to grow stronger."
"All right"
Randy left first. He didn't return to Pineapple or the castle. Instead, he ran to a secluded corner of the Beast City, washed himself with water, and then realized he was soaked in sweat.
At this moment, the sun was gradually setting, its rays warming his skin.
He went to rest under the shade of a tree, sat down beside a rock, and looked at the stone house in the distance. His face was pale, and no matter how bad his mood was, he decided not to see Guo Xiaoxiao for the next few days, in case he really infected them.
Even if he was extremely uneasy, he knew that infection would only lead to death; he had already witnessed it.
Suddenly, a sharp, piercing bird cry shattered the silence from the sky. His spiritual energy dispersed in all directions, and he lay down to rest quietly.
…
Everyone was gathered for dinner that evening, except for Randy. Guo Xiaoxiao, not seeing Randy, asked him about him.
Since Arthur took over, he's usually the first one to return, even when handling official business. Why isn't he here today?
Arthur: "It's better that he's not coming back. Avoid contact with him for now; we must make sure he doesn't have any parasites."
Guo Xiaoxiao: "People have already said that Monet and Alo have both checked him, and there are no parasites. Don't keep harping on it."
The others also had some knowledge of parasites.
I haven't seen it with my own eyes, but I know how dangerous it is. The elders of the tribe have told them about the terrifying nature of parasites.
"Those things are too small to reproduce in large numbers. Usually, if just one is parasitized, symptoms will appear shortly afterward."
No matter how hard I try, those bugs will always crawl out of my body. Even if I cut them with a knife or pour herbal water on them, it's no use. I have to burn them.
Carlos: "If Randy was infected, he would have symptoms now; is he dizzy and feverish?"
Guo Xiaoxiao: "He came back this afternoon, and he seemed perfectly normal. There was nothing unusual about him. He just told me that one of the orcs in his tribe had parasites."
Mickelson was startled: "Where? It's on fire!"
Everyone knows the stakes involved, and upon hearing those three words, they all think of the best and simplest solution.
Arthur: "They've been moved out of the Beast City, and their fate is unknown. I spoke to Randy myself, and he couldn't bear to burn his orcs, so I'll take care of it."
Cang Jue: "Why don't you go now and don't let him come back? Even though he reproduces quickly, if he's already been parasitized and comes back to eat and sleep with us, we'll all suffer."
Guo Xiaoxiao slapped Cang Jue in displeasure.
"I've already said he didn't get infected. How many times do I have to tell you, you can't form cliques and ostracize him. Randy is so young, it's already tough enough. You're always worrying about this and that, and now you've triggered his migraine again."
Randy, despite his young age, often suffered from migraines when managing Beast City without Arthur and the others' assistance. It was Guo Xiaoxiao's massages and suggestions that relieved the pain considerably.
However, what Guo Xiaoxiao didn't know was that Randy had found a new outlet for his frustrations: running. He'd run laps when he was upset, and now he didn't get headaches when troubled.
Cang Jue: "I still have a headache. You're worried about me! I've been away for dozens of days, and there's a ton of stuff I haven't been able to finish dealing with. Xiaoxiao, why don't you come with me to the tribe and keep me company for a couple of days?"
Carlos: "Dream on."
Guo Xiaoxiao: "Don't forget you have a 30-day ban. Just do your job honestly and properly."
Cang Jue: "I know, I didn't say I wanted to mate with you when I asked you to keep me company. I promise I won't lay a hand on you. You can just sit there and chat with me."
This is really dragging things out of control. How did we end up bringing up these issues when we were discussing Randy's matter?
Guo Xiaoxiao: "Stop! Your promises are useless. Now tell me about Randy. Who's going to go find him and see where he is?"
No one responded to these words. Nobody wanted Randy to come back, mainly because parasites were too terrifying to joke about.
A whole bunch of them died in the process; they hadn't even had their babies yet, it's such a waste that they all died.
Seeing that they remained unmoved, Guo Xiaoxiao put down her bowl and chopsticks, stood up, and walked out. She decided to go check on Randy; he was a sensitive person.
"If you guys don't care about him, I will. You guys eat first, and we can eat together after I bring Randy back."
Arthur: "I'll go!"
Carlos: "I'll go, I'll go!"
The group began to say in unison that they would rather get infected themselves than let the female get infected; they were willing to go all out to find him and isolate him.
Guo Xiaoxiao: "No need, I know it's quite dangerous."
Arthur: "It's okay, I'll handle whatever happens. Just stay home and wait for me to come back."
Carlos: "Yeah, there's no reason for you to go looking for someone."
Cang Jue: "I was just saying it casually, don't take it seriously. Find it, find it right away."
Mickson: "Xiaoxiao, I didn't say a word of complaint just now, unlike these beasts, who are inconsistent."
Guo Xiaoxiao sighed as she saw them scrambling to find the person.
"Stop arguing, it's all the same anyway. If I go, I can at least appease him, but if you go, you'll say hurtful things and make him unhappy again."
Guo Xiaoxiao could imagine what they would say after they found him: tell him to stay away, not to act rashly, and not to get involved if he noticed anything unusual, or he might burn himself.
She was willing to isolate him temporarily, but their tone of disgust was very unpleasant.
Guo Xiaoxiao used psychic communication to contact Randy and ask for his location.
Guo Xiaoxiao: "Randy's eating, but I haven't seen you. Are you still busy? Are you back yet?"
Randy: "I'm not coming back today. I'm staying out for a few days. Don't wait up for me."
Guo Xiaoxiao: "Is it because of parasites? You don't need to worry about parasite infection causing symptoms immediately. Since you don't have symptoms, you won't infect us."
Randy: "No, I've already seen how that orc died. I can't let you get hurt."
Guo Xiaoxiao exclaimed in surprise, "Weren't we supposed to leave it outside the Beast City? Is it dead? It died so quickly!"
Randy: "I gave him the resurrection potion I made for you, and he died after drinking it. Worms made a hole in his chest and crawled out."
"I was very close by at the time, and the orc taking care of him was probably infected as well, so I couldn't come back."
Guo Xiaoxiao thought for a moment. For the sake of the bigger picture, it would be better if her brother didn't come back. She didn't care, but what if they got infected? But she couldn't just leave Randy alone.
"Observe for one night, and I'll ask you again tomorrow. I'll find a solution to help you as soon as possible."
Randy: "Okay"
It feels so good to be cared for by females. Randy felt a heavy burden of guilt because of Son's death, but it has lessened considerably now.
