"How are you?"
Amansa asked Guo Xiaoxiao
Guo Xiaoxiao nodded, barely managing to steady herself.
With a howl, the orc disappeared and was burned to ashes...
Everything returned to calm. Guo Xiaoxiao's legs went weak, but luckily Amansa supported her.
I'm fine now.
She said weakly
Xiao Ni looked at Carlos and Randy with a worried expression.
"Did you see that? The parasite can fly. It didn't attack us; it must be looking for dead wild beasts. Once it multiplies to a certain number, it will attack the orcs."
He finished speaking, checked on Carlos and Randy, and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming they were alright.
The two had been very close, and Xiao Ni was terrified, fearing they might be parasitized.
Guo Xiaoxiao: "Can you smell it? That smell is lingering. Let's hurry up and leave."
"Um"
After Carlos agreed, the three quickened their pace and headed back, each carrying their female on their back in order to get there faster.
After walking for a few minutes and saying goodbye to Randy, Carlos turned back, picked up a piece of gravel from the ground, and threw it into the fire.
I didn't check carefully before, but now that I look closely, the parasites on my body have been burned to death, but there are still some small spots, like insect eggs, that haven't been burned through.
Carlos stared at the charred orc corpses on the ground; it was truly bizarre that the parasites could survive being burned.
Carlos gathered some twigs, plucked them from the orc's body, placed them on the burning orc, and then used Randy's flint to ignite them again.
They waited until they were sure there were no more insect eggs before reuniting with Guo Xiaoxiao. The group quickened their pace and returned to Beast City.
Guo Xiaoxiao was still shaken; the insects on the orc's body were too terrifying. Just thinking about them made her want to vomit uncontrollably. She tried to think of other things to distract herself.
…
Back in Beast City, Xiaoni said
"I need to go back and report to Alo; the flying insects are impossible to guard against, we need to prepare early."
Carlos: "Preparation is useless. Once you're parasitized, the only thing you can do is burn it. Otherwise, just wait to die."
Guo Xiaoxiao: "It should be fine, right? Only some flew away, not all of them landed on us. The flying insects didn't attack us."
Amansa had heard her father tell stories about parasites, who were intelligent and constantly evolving.
It started with mulberry leaves, where the parasites appeared very early, serving as a warning. However, as time went on, they would lie dormant, waiting for the right moment to cause a major outbreak.
This should not be underestimated; infection is a death sentence.
"What should we do? You all need to think of another way, otherwise we'll have no choice but to abandon Beast City and wander around aimlessly."
They'd only had a few months of peace, and now this bad thing had happened again. It was only the beginning of spring, barely two months in, and everything was already a headache. Amansa didn't want to lose Beast City.
Randy: "We'll figure something out. You guys go back first."
Xiaoni left with Amansa
Back at the castle, once everyone had gathered, Carlos recounted the entire incident.
Upon hearing that it was another parasite, Cang Jue examined Guo Xiaoxiao thoroughly, turning her over and over as if he wanted to tear the animal hide apart to check for any wounds or anything like that.
Guo Xiaoxiao was in a bad mood and opened Cangjue.
"Don't touch me unless it's absolutely necessary, I'm dizzy."
I vomited so much this afternoon that I felt completely nauseous, and I haven't recovered yet.
Cang Jue: "Xiao Xiao, you're pregnant! If you were to be infected by parasites, I couldn't imagine it. I'd have no choice but to die with you."
Guo Xiaoxiao was in a bad mood and felt annoyed.
"Go ahead and die if you want, I won't stop you."
Cang Jue said, feeling wronged, "I can't bear to part with you."
Guo Xiaoxiao sat on the stool, too lazy to pay him any attention. She couldn't even drink water anymore and wanted to eat something, but the sight of meat made her feel disgusted, as if there were worms wriggling on it. She shook her head.
Randy comforted
"Xiaoxiao, it will all be resolved."
Carlos remained silent for a long time before sighing and saying, "It's not rampant yet, so don't touch any dead animals or wild beasts that are already wounded."
"They are all susceptible to parasites; parasites love to burrow into blood vessels."
Cang Jue said, "If we can't avoid it, then so be it. We can escape to another continent and hide there. Anyway, there are more people there, and anywhere is the strongest."
Guo Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement: "Yes, if it really comes down to it, we should leave. Everyone in the city is parasitized; no one can survive."
Arthur thought for a moment
"You say it's an orc who's been parasitized, but where is the source? Which continent did this orc come from? Was it from a tribe around Beast City?"
The situation was urgent, and no one asked any questions, especially since the orc was already half-beast and about to attack.
"have no idea"
Arthur rested his chin on his hand. This was troublesome. If they came from other continents, perhaps some tribes had already fallen, or perhaps the area was too small to spread widely, and the orcs hadn't yet appeared.
Fortunately, Amansa and Guo Xiaoxiao happened to be out having fun today and bumped into him.
Otherwise, if he died in some obscure corner, unnoticed and unburied, it would be even more dangerous.
Guo Xiaoxiao: "Can't we use insecticides? What about pesticides?"
She's using modern thinking to solve this problem. The parasites I'm suffering from are completely different from modern ones; they come on fiercely and reproduce several times faster than modern ones. If left unchecked, they'll inevitably become a disaster.
Arthur shook his head. "What are you talking about?"
Guo Xiaoxiao changed her approach and asked, "For example, if you sprinkle insect repellent herbs on the ground, the parasites will die after eating them."
Arthur remained bewildered: "Never heard of it."
Carlos: "Parasites are only interested in blood; they won't even touch herbs."
Oh, so picky about food. Well, modern insecticides are made with scents that insects like so they won't detect them. That won't work in the animal world.
Mickson: "I remember now, a few days ago an orc told me he saw a beast whose body was rotting and emitting a foul stench, but it was still walking. Maybe it was a parasite."
