Seeing that the situation was hopeless, the wandering eagles and beasts stopped pursuing Yan Fei and his companions and fled for their lives.
The fire raged all night. As dawn broke, the forest was littered with broken branches and blazing flames, and the scorched or burned carcasses of animals lay scattered haphazardly.
The air was thick with a strong and unpleasant smell of burning, and many birds perished before they could escape this dangerous place.
In this terrifying and suffocating environment, three men struggled to emerge from a hidden path.
"Damn! Those guys are ruthless! They almost burned my leg!"
A young orc spoke between breaths, his face pale, clearly having just experienced something extremely terrible.
Big Bear: "Kevin, what do we do next? The boss is dead."
Kevin watched the sun slowly rise in the distance.
"Let's not go back to the Forgotten Continent. Let's find a tribe to join."
Xiong Er agreed: "There aren't many orcs left if we go back, so it's better to stay here."
After the ordeal, the group lay side by side on the ground to rest, preparing to embrace a new life.
…
Guo Xiaoxiao and Lin Zhi flew to a safe area. Yan Fei was exhausted; his wings were sore from flying for so long. The surviving eagles and beasts behind them were in similar condition.
There's nowhere to rest, and flying in the sky is much more tiring than running on the ground.
Yan Fei's excellent eyesight at high altitude came in handy, and he quickly located Ji Xing and the others.
The two groups of people met up
"Linzhi, are you hurt?"
Ji Xing rushed forward, and Will and Qianye also surrounded her. Lin Zhi was unharmed, but her worried eyes were constantly fixed on Guo Xiaoxiao.
Guo Xiaoxiao stopped crying and seemed quite calm, not saying a word. Lin Zhi comforted her a few times, and she nodded without responding.
Lin Zhi understood her. Although the snake had done many heinous things, it was enough. The dead were at peace, but the living would find it difficult to let go.
Randy noticed that Guo Xiaoxiao was acting strangely, with her head down and looking very depressed. Linzhi told them that Guo Xiaoxiao was greatly shocked by the news of Carlos's death.
He put his arm around Guo Xiaoxiao's shoulder, letting her lean against his chest.
Guo Xiaoxiao didn't refuse, silently enduring it, because now only Randy could accompany her.
Arthur and the other two are in grave danger, and the father of the child in her womb is also dead. Guo Xiaoxiao is unable to face the journey ahead; her mind is in turmoil, unable to make sense of anything.
The remaining men were all adult males, who consciously stood apart to maintain distance, not daring to cross the line.
"Be strong. He doesn't deserve to die. He hurt you, don't be sad for him."
Randy stroked Guo Xiaoxiao's hair and gently tried to persuade her, though it was to no avail.
Lin Zhi looked at Randy, thinking, "Who gives advice like that? After spending some time with him, I think Randy is just stubborn and inflexible." She walked over and said...
"Xiaoxiao, the dead cannot be brought back to life. Please accept this loss and take care of yourself. Being too sad is not good for the baby. The fact that you are carrying his snake cub is a way of giving him some peace of mind. Give birth to the baby and take good care of it."
"Um"
Guo Xiaoxiao agreed to Lin Zhi's request, touched her belly, and felt the heartbeat inside.
"Let's rest first, eat something to replenish our energy, and then head to the beach."
Lin Zhi suggested that Ji Xing and the others rest for a while before starting the hunt.
The forest they were far from was still ablaze with no sign of abating. The gasoline had evaporated, but the trees were highly flammable, and the fire was too large to be extinguished anytime soon.
Fortunately, a timely rain from nature extinguished the fire.
Guo Xiaoxiao sat on the riverbank, gazing at the rolling river, seemingly lost in thought. Beside her was a skewer of grilled meat, its aroma filling the air.
"Let's replenish our energy, I'll carry you."
Randy stayed by his side.
Thank you, I'm not hungry.
Guo Xiaoxiao shook her head. She couldn't eat anything. She knew the baby in her belly needed to eat, but the smell of roasted meat reminded her of those charred, stinking corpses and bloody, mangled scenes.
Randy frowned; her thin, frail body swayed in the cold wind, looking utterly pitiful.
"Eat something, or if you really don't want to eat, just lean against me and sleep for a while."
He crouched down and patted her on the shoulder to indicate that...
"I really don't want to eat, and I can't sleep. Randy, don't worry about me, you eat. You've been so tired lately."
Guo Xiaoxiao was still unwilling, her eyes lifeless as she spoke.
"Xiaoxiao, you need to understand, if you don't eat, your body won't be able to hold on. The snake babies want to eat too. The snake eggs will hatch in a month, and some will die if they can't keep up with the physical demands."
Randy sighed and patiently offered his advice.
He reached out, took the skewered piece of grilled meat, and held it to Guo Xiaoxiao's mouth.
Guo Xiaoxiao, upon hearing that she would die if she lacked the physical strength, finally nodded and accepted the task.
Randy smiled when he saw that she seemed interested in eating.
"Eat up, everything will be alright, I'm here."
Guo Xiaoxiao took a bite of the roasted meat, chewed it a few times, and swallowed it. Lin Zhi had specially added some chili powder for seasoning. Guo Xiaoxiao didn't feel nauseous and swallowed it, her stomach gradually warming up.
"So delicious!"
She spoke softly, tears streaming down her face, unable to hold back, her eyes overflowing with tears as if the stream had stopped flowing.
When Randy saw her like this, he couldn't help but tear up.
"Xiaoxiao, don't be sad."
He lifted Guo Xiaoxiao's chin and wiped away her tears.
"I know, but I just can't control myself, what should I do?"
Guo Xiaoxiao choked up, saying that she hadn't expected herself to be so vulnerable, to lose control and burst into tears, and that even the slightest sound would make her nervous.
Randy put his arm around her waist and comforted her.
"It's okay, Xiaoxiao, you still have me."
Guo Xiaoxiao buried her face in Randy's broad chest, letting her tears flow freely. She needed to vent; she needed an outlet.
"Waaaaah..."
Guo Xiaoxiao suppressed her sobs, her body convulsing violently.
Randy held her tightly in his arms, as if protecting a precious treasure, but he was helpless and could only let her vent her pain.
After an unknown amount of time, Guo Xiaoxiao cried herself to sleep.
Randy breathed a sigh of relief, picked her up, and headed to the camp.
Linzhi and Qianye were playfully bickering when they saw Randy return carrying Guo Xiaoxiao. They immediately went over to check on Guo Xiaoxiao's condition.
She didn't think she had done anything wrong. If she didn't act ruthlessly, would she let Carlos surround and annihilate them? She just couldn't bear to see Guo Xiaoxiao so heartbroken; having traveled from the same place, she felt sympathy for her.
How is she?
Linzhi asked
She's already fast asleep, but I think it's better if I hold her.
Randy then responded to Linzhi and said...
"Thanks to you this time, we would have all been in trouble without you."
Linzhi waved his hand
"You're welcome. Yushan took me in, so don't worry about it."
Randy nodded, and Linzhi led Randy to a small patch of soft grass and whispered...
"Put Guo Xiaoxiao down, I want to say a few words to you."
Randy hesitated for a moment, then put Guo Xiaoxiao down and gently laid her on the lawn. Lin Zhi whispered instructions.
Come this way.
Randy followed Linzhi to another, less crowded area. Linzhi said...
What are your plans next?
