Chapter 2 Veterinarian
Jian Mo started to get sick after being taken home by Wu Jiong. He was groggy every day, sometimes waking up in the daytime and sometimes in the night.
Almost every time he woke up, Wu Jiong would appear in front of him, hand him various soups, and ask about his origins.
Occasionally, other people would come to ask questions together.
Jian Mo couldn't explain clearly how he came to this world and was sick. Several times during the conversation, it was obvious that what he said was completely different from what Wu Jiong said.
After a few times, people simply regarded him as a stray orc and stopped asking questions.
He was sick for a long time.
One day, Jian Mo woke up and saw the bright golden sunlight outside, which was shining in every corner, warm and bright. He felt that he had gained some strength in his body.
He climbed up from the beast-skin mattress, and after sitting up straight, his body was still a little weak, and sweat broke out on the back of his neck.
But it was just weak, and his body was no longer heavy.
Jian Mo looked out the window. It was great that he was still alive.
"Awake?" Wu Jiong's voice came.
Jian Mo saw Wu Jiong's figure appear at the entrance of the stairs, nodded weakly, and said slowly in beastman language: "I'm better."
Wu Jiong nodded: "Come down and eat something."
Jian Mo slowly stood up.
The second floor was very empty. Apart from a few boxes against the wall, there were only two mattresses placed on the left and right. Jian Mo had been sleeping on the small mattress on the left for the past few days.
He put on his socks and shoes placed next to the mattress, turned around and found that all his personal belongings were next to the pillow - an umbrella, a cell phone, keys, headphones, a folded white tissue and the empty cans that the kitten had eaten that day.
Wu Jiong actually picked them all up for him.
He couldn't help but take the phone and long-pressed it to turn it on.
The phone was completely out of power, and it went dark again when it was turned on.
Jian Mo stared at the phone, feeling an unspeakable disappointment in his heart. He was already weak, and now his hands and feet were even weaker.
He put the phone in his pocket, slowly walked to the escalator, and reached the bottom of the stairs step by step.
Jian Mo went downstairs and saw Wu Jiong standing under the eaves on the first floor.
There were a lot of meat hanging under the eaves, and Wu Jiong seemed to be selecting the meat.
When Wu Jiong pinched it, the meat sank and looked very soft. It should have been hung up just two days ago.
Jian Mo retracted his gaze, slowly walked to the fire pit, and sat on a small wooden stool.
Judging from the buildings here, this world does not seem to be much different from his original world.
It was a rough and clean stone house with a fire pit in the middle of the first floor. The second floor was paved with wooden boards, and people put mattresses on them for sleeping.
There were people in his original world who decorated like this.
While Jian Mo was daydreaming, Wu Jiong had already returned with the meat.
He placed a large stone slab on the fire pit, roasted the meat on it, and then cut it into small pieces.
Jian Mo discovered that the knife he used was not a metal knife, but a shell knife. The edge of the knife was ground thin and sharp, so it was not difficult to cut.
However, judging from the texture of the cut surface of the meat, the fibers of this piece of meat were quite thick, and it would be tough to eat and difficult to bite through.
Jian Mo's eyes followed Wu Jiong's movements.
Wu Jiong's slender fingers gently pushed the plate of meat in front of him: "It's ready to eat."
Jian Mo came back to his senses: "Okay. Thank you."
Wu Jiong nodded slightly: "Try it."
Jian Mo looked at the meat in front of him and hesitated, wondering if he should just pinch the meat and eat it.
It looked quite hot.
Wu Jiong had already picked up the plate and was eating the meat strips directly with his hands.
Jian Mo sighed, followed his example, picked up a piece of meat, and took a bite.
Then, he couldn't bite it.
Jian Mo took the meat to look at it in front of his eyes. It was full of fascia and thick meat fibers. No wonder he couldn't bite it.
Just when Jian Mo was thinking about what to do, Wu Jiong brought his plate from the opposite side: "I'll cut it a little thinner for you."
Jian Mo was embarrassed: "Thank you."
Wu Jiong motioned for him to put the meat back on the plate, and then helped him cut it into thumb-sized pieces: "It's been hanging for a night, it may not be tender enough, it will be better if it is hung for another two days."
Jian Mo turned his head to look at the meat hanging under the eaves. He knew that fresh meat would be tenderized after being left for a period of time, but he didn't expect that there was such technology here.
Jian Mo: "What kind of meat is this?"
Wu Jiong: "It's a forkedhorn. This forkedhorn is relatively large and the meat is tough. Let's see if I can catch a smaller prey today."
Wu Jiong quickly finished the meat on the plate. It seems that this tough meat is no problem for orcs.
He packed up the plate and said to Jian Mo: "I'm going out hunting later. You stay at home or walk around the tribe. It's best not to go outside the tribe. It's dangerous."
Jian Mo nodded seriously.
Wu Jiong glanced at Jian Mo for a second longer: "If you have any problem, you can also look for the beastmen patrolling outside. If you can't find them, just look for any adult beastman or sub-beastman."
Jian Mo continued to nod, paused, and whispered to Wu Jiong: "Thank you."
Wu Jiong finished what he had to say, packed up a little, put the knife in his waist, then took a bundle of ropes and went out.
Jian Mo stood at the door to see him off, watching him walk to a group of chatty beastmen in the distance.
The beastmen surrounded him, changed back into beast form, ran out of the tribe, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Jian Mo stood at the door and looked at the entire tribe
. This tribe should be a tribe on the plain at the foot of the snow-capped mountains.
The tribe looked quite large. Jian Mo stood at the door and saw more than 30 stone houses at a glance.
However, most of the stone houses were only one-story, except Wu Jiong's house, which was two-story and particularly spacious and beautiful - probably because he was the chief of the tribe.
When Jian Mo looked outside, a group of middle-aged and young men were walking out with backpacks on their backs. Some of them had animal ears or tails, while others looked like ordinary humans.
Those ordinary-looking people probably didn't release their animal characteristics.
In addition to adults, there are many furry little animals playing in the tribe.
Jian Mo knew that they were not ordinary animals, but beastmen or sub-beastmen who had not shed their beast form, that is, the cubs in the tribe.
He did not dare to look at these cubs for too long, and retracted his gaze after just one glance.
No matter where they are, cubs are the key protected characters, and they must be avoided.
When Jian Mo traveled through time, his whole body might have traveled through time and space together, intercepting certain memory factors or something, so he brought some memories with him.
When he sees certain things, he can always remember some things.
This makes it not difficult for him to adapt to this world.
After standing at the door for a while, seeing that no one came to talk to him, Jian Mo walked out slowly.
After walking a little further, he came to an open place.
There are grasslands and shrubs near the valley, wide and shallow rivers farther away, and forests farther away. On top of the forest, snow-capped mountains are glittering in the sun.
The scenery in front of him has nothing to do with the small town where he lives.
Jian Mo smiled bitterly. He really did travel through time.
I wonder what will happen to his veterinary clinic?
Fortunately, the store currently does not accept small animals, otherwise, with his disappearance, things would be troublesome.
This tribe is quite large. Jian Mo had just been ill and had no strength at all. After walking around for most of the way, he could not walk anymore and walked back slowly.
When he was strolling around, some people were looking at him, but they just looked at him from a distance and no one came up to talk to him.
It seems that this world is not very peaceful. People are conservative and vigilant towards strangers.
In fact, it can be seen from Wu Jiong's body that if Wu Jiong had not been very wary of him, he would not have brought him home and kept him under his nose.
Jian Mo walked and stopped, and returned to Wu Jiong's house to rest for a while, and the sun began to set.
The length of sunshine here should be similar to that on Earth, at most a little longer.
Jian Mo took a bowl and drank a bowl of water, and then checked the ingredients in Wu Jiong's house.
Although he is not from this world, he has a lot of strange knowledge in his mind, and he can recognize some ingredients.
Maybe when he traveled through time, his body did not travel through as a whole, but was reorganized.
Soul factors or something, affected by the local soul factors, so he got some vague memories?
Jian Mo didn't understand what was going on, so he could only put it aside for the time being.
The most important thing now is that he has to do some work within his ability.
He had no relationship with Wu Jiong, and if he was lazy, he would probably be abandoned soon. If he was thrown into the wild, he would not be able to survive, let alone find a way to return to Earth. There were
quite a lot of food ingredients in Wu Jiong's house. In addition to the meat hanging under the eaves, there were also various stems.
Jian Mo took a piece of meat and divided it into two halves. He planned to grill the lean half in the way Wu Jiong grilled meat.
For the half with fat, he first cut the fat off, and cut the fat and lean meat into cubes respectively. Part of the fat was used to refine oil, and the other part was mixed with the lean meat cubes and stem cubes with salt and kneaded into meat patties.
In addition, he also took bones and stems, blanched the bones in water, and then slowly stewed them on the fire.
While cooking, Jian Mo once again confirmed that Wu Jiong should be relatively wealthy, as the tools on the shelf next to the fire pit were relatively complete.
With the help of the tools, he cooked the meal quite smoothly.
After finishing the meal, Wu Jiong had not returned yet.
Jian Mo put the fried steaks and meat pies in a bowl, and turned the clean bowl upside down, then found a broom and slowly swept the room.
He was thinking about something and reacted slowly, so he did not notice someone walking in.
"What a nice smell!" someone said in orc language.
Jian Mo looked up in surprise and saw Wu Jiong walking in with several tall young men.
The young men's eyes lit up, "What does the meat taste like?"
Jian Mo stood up and greeted, "Wu Jiong."
Wu Jiong looked around the room, his eyes finally falling on the upside-down bowl.
Jian Mo grabbed the broom and explained, "I'm almost well now, so I tried to cook a meal. I wonder if it suits your taste? If not, I'll change it tomorrow."
The young men smiled and winked.
Someone said to Wu Jiong, "Chief, you should have found a partner a long time ago. It would be great to have someone to cook at home." Wu Jiong
nodded to Jian Mo, "Thank you."
Then, Wu Jiong said to the others, "Divide the meat first."
Jian Mo didn't quite understand what Wu Jiong meant, and followed him subconsciously.
Wu Jiong took two large and long shell knives from the fire pit and led the young men back to the yard.
Jian Mo then realized that the yard was filled with various animals of all sizes. They seemed to be the prey they had caught today.
Dividing the meat should be a daily part of this tribe. Jian Mo stood by and watched, and found that more and more people were rushing over.
They put the wild animals on a spread of fresh leaves, peeled them, bled them, and divided the meat. Their movements were very skillful.
Jian Mo went over to help at first, but as more and more people came, he felt a little hesitant, so he went back to the house to continue cleaning.
The process of dividing the meat lasted at least an hour.
Jian Mo noticed that they kept all the usable parts, whether it was blood or internal organs, they were all collected.
It seems that the resources here are not particularly abundant, otherwise, they would not have kept the parts that were not tasty and difficult to handle.
In addition to meat, Jian Mo also saw them dividing some stems and wild vegetables.
The stems stored in Wu Jiong's house should have come from this.
After the meat was divided, the sky was already filled with sunset glow.
The young men did not leave, but washed their hands and followed Wu Jiong into the house.
Wu Jiong and the others rubbed salt on the meat, and Jian Mo helped on the side. He guessed in his heart that he was going to hang the meat under the eaves to preserve it.
The yellow-brown coarse salt was very rough, and Jian Mo was obviously not as skillful as others in rubbing the meat with it.
Wu Jiong said: "We can do it here, you take out the rice, and they stay here to eat."
A young man behind him said to Jian Mo with a smile: "The food you cooked smells so good."
Jian Mo glanced at Wu Jiong, nodded, unwrapped the prepared food and put it in the middle of the table.
He saw that Wu Jiong had a big appetite, so he made some more, and now it was just right for everyone to eat together.
The young men looked at Wu Jiong, and one of them suddenly whispered to the person next to him: "He looks so well behaved."
It was obvious who this "he" was referring to.
Jian Mo frowned and pretended not to hear.
Jian Mo took out the washed knife, divided the food into small pieces, and took out a bowl to scoop the soup.
Unlike the meat grilled by Wu Jiong, Jian Mo specially put the fat on when grilling and fried a little oil. While grilling, he also heated the stone slab to boiling point.
The meat was placed on a hot stone slab filled with oil, and fried to a wonderful crispy layer.
Now everything is done, the gravy is flowing out, the steak is soft and slightly powdery inside, and crispy and fragrant on the outside, it looks very delicious.
The meat was placed in front of the young people, and they didn't hesitate at all, pinching the meat and throwing it into their mouths.
Then, they burst into discussion:
"So delicious!!!"
"This meat is so tender, and it has flavor inside!"
"What kind of meat is this? I haven't eaten it before."
Jian Mo specially marinated the meat and poked small holes in it, so it also has flavor inside.
As for the type of meat, Jian Mo looked at Wu Jiong.
Wu Jiong: "Pronghorn meat."
"Impossible! How can the meat of a forkedhorn be so tender?"
"That's right. My father cooked forkedhorn meat yesterday. After my brother ate it, his baby teeth broke and my father scolded him half to death."
"Pronghorn meat is not that fragrant!"
The young people didn't quite believe it and asked Jian Mo: "The tribe leader lied to us, didn't he?"
Jian Mo shook his head and pointed to the meat hanging under the eaves: "That's the meat."
"Ah, it's really forkedhorn meat?"
"How did you do it? I want to write this method down and do it this way when I go back."
Jian Mo looked at Wu Jiong and saw that he didn't object, so he carefully repeated the method - as an outsider, he had to show his value.
The group of people nodded to show that they remembered it.
Someone else noticed the meat pie he was cutting: "What is this?"
Jian Mo showed them the meat pie: "The meat pie with stems added will have a little more juice."
When everyone heard that there was more meat pie, they clamored to eat it.
Wu Jiong took the knife from his hand: "Let me do it."
Jian Mo made way, and Wu Jiong evenly divided the meat pie into small pieces, one for each person.
The meat pie was specially made with diced fat, and salt and chopped stems were kneaded into it. It tasted tender and juicy, and the diced meat seemed to dance on the tip of the tongue.
This group of people ate without caring about their image at all. Not only did they finish the meat pie, but they also picked up the crumbs on the table and ate them.
"You are amazing!"
"You are the best cook I have ever seen."
"Do you have a partner?"
"Yes, right? He is so handsome, and his skin is so white and tender, just like the milk of a tuo beast. He must have a partner."
"His partner is not here."
Everyone turned their eyes to Jian Mo for confirmation.
Jian Mo avoided their gazes. He did have many suitors when he was in college, but they did not confirm the relationship.
Jian Mo said with a straight face: "I don't have a partner, and I don't plan to find a partner for the time being."
Wu Jiong knocked on the table: "Eat your meat, don't ask people."
The young people seemed a little afraid of Wu Jiong, and sure enough, they stopped asking questions and changed to other topics.
Jian Mo breathed a sigh of relief and served soup to everyone.
Everyone drank the soup and returned to his cooking: "Are you really not the best cook in your tribe?"
It seems that everyone is curious about him, but they were not familiar with him before, so they didn't dare to ask too much.
Jian Mo shook his head: "I am a veterinarian."
This term is very unfamiliar, and everyone looked at Wu Jiong.
Wu Jiong: "What is a veterinarian?"
Jian Mo: "It is a person who treats animals."
Jian Mo tried to explain, "Try to alleviate the condition of sick animals, treat them, and try not to let them die."
The beastmen understood this.
"Then are you a priest?"
"Is Hongqiu sick? Can he be cured?"
"I'll go call him!"
"Ban Ming, slow down!"
Before Jian Mo could say anything, one of the young men had already sneaked out.
Jian Mo opened his mouth to call him, but he could no longer see his back.
Wait, I'm a veterinarian, but there are no tools or medicines here, and I may not be able to cure the disease.
Besides, I'm a veterinarian and you are beastmen, and our physiological properties are completely different!
Jian Mo stood there helplessly. Why are you beastmen so anxious?
Wu Jiong said to Jian Mo: "Let him bring Hong Qiu here first. It doesn't matter if he can't cure him."
Jian Mo didn't know what to say, so he could only say "Oh" dryly and sat down again.
Soon, a big cat came over, carrying a middle-aged man with a greenish-yellow face.
Jian Mo looked at the big cat - isn't this the big cat he met at the beginning?
No wonder he felt that the name "Ban Ming" was so familiar.
The middle-aged man named "Hongqiu" got off Ban Ming, greeted Wu Jiong in a low voice, and then covered his forehead with his hands, and looked at Ban Ming who had just turned back into human form with a displeased look: "Why are you running so fast? My head was already hurting, and now it hurts even more."
Ban Ming pointed at Jian Mo: "He said he can cure you."
Everyone looked at Jian Mo together.
Jian Mo looked at their expectant eyes and wanted to say "I'm not, I didn't, don't talk nonsense" three times in a row.
Wu Jiong asked: "Can we try?"
Jian Mo hesitated for a moment: "Let me think about it."
Wu Jiong said to Jian Mo: "Use a method that has no harm, don't take risks."
Jian Mo regained his composure and agreed seriously.
Jian Mo asked Hong Qiu to sit down and asked about the cause of his illness.
Hongqiu wiped his nose: "I was chased and butted by a cave bull a few days ago. I had no choice but to jump into the pond to hide. I stayed in the pond for a long time and got sick when I came back."
Jian Mo: "Is the water cold? Did you get any wind when you came back?"
Hongqiu: "It was so cold that my lips turned blue. I don't remember whether I got any wind or not, but I was cold."
Jian Mo made a simple judgment in his heart, and asked: "Do you have any wounds on your body? Is there any pain?"
Jian Mo asked a lot of questions in detail and examined Hongqiu.
Although Hongqiu was a little impatient, he still cooperated with his actions.
After a careful examination, Jian Mo said, "It may be a cold. I don't have any medicine on hand. If I want to treat it, I may have to scrape it."
Wu Jiong: "What is scraping?"
Jian Mo picked up a bowl next to him: "It is to use a hard object to scrape along the meridians to clear the meridians."
Many terms are not here, and Jian Mo doesn't know how to explain these unfamiliar concepts.
Finally, he had to say, "It's hard to explain, you will know after you see it. This treatment method is basically risk-free except that it is a little painful. If you want me to treat it, I can only think of this treatment method at the moment."
Wu Jiong and the others communicated for a while, and finally decided to let Jian Mo try it.
Jian Mo asked Hong Qiu to sit on a chair, exposing the skin on his back, and then took the freshly boiled animal oil and applied it evenly on his skin. The
animal oil smelled very good, and the beastmen couldn't help whispering to each other when they saw Hong Qiu's shiny back being painted.
Jian Mo ignored them, applied it carefully, and then scraped it gently, confirming the strength with Hong Qiu.
He didn't learn scraping when he was in college, but he lived with his grandfather when he was a child, and he helped his grandfather with scraping a lot.
Until now, he still remembers which meridians to scrape for which disease. He
just doesn't know if the meridians of beastmen are similar, and whether scraping will be effective.
Jian Mo scraped along the meridians, first lightly and then heavy, and purple-red blood spots slowly floated on the surface of the skin.
Ban Ming reached out and touched it, and said in surprise: "It's burned, Hongqiu, does it hurt?"
Hongqiu lowered his head and said: "It hurt when I shaved it, but it didn't hurt when you touched it. Don't touch it randomly."
Ban Ming didn't listen, and took the opportunity to touch it again, which made Hongqiu so angry that he kicked his foot.
Jian Mo ignored their playfulness and scraped the sha carefully. After checking the skin for any damage, he took the bowl away with a slight breath and said to Hong Qiu, "It's OK. Go back and have a good rest. Keep warm. You should feel better tomorrow."
Hong Qiu moved his shoulders and said, "It's a little easier after you did that."
Jian Mo said, "Wear a piece of animal skin and don't catch a cold."
Wu Jiong said to Hong Qiu, "Go back and have a good sleep."
Then he turned to the others and said, "You too, stop making trouble."
After Wu Jiong spoke, the others obviously calmed down and said goodbye and walked out.
Jian Mo was not very familiar with them, so he didn't say anything. He just quietly packed up his things.
Wu Jiong took the things from his hand away: "You go up and have a rest. You must be tired after doing so much work."
Jian Mo shook his head: "Not really."
Wu Jiong took the things away: "I'll do it, go ahead."
Jian Mo had no choice but to stop arguing with him.
"By the way." When Jian Mo was leaving, Wu Jiong called him, "Today's food is delicious. It's hard to help Hongqiu with scraping. Thank you."
Jian Mo felt relieved and looked at Wu Jiong and said, "You're welcome. It's all my duty. Thank you for taking me in and taking care of me during this time."
