Chapter 7 Weaving
In the morning, after breakfast, Jian Mo found a hoe and planned to plant the wood tinkle roots behind the house.
Wu Jiong came to help.
Wu Jiong would regularly clean the weeds behind the house, and the back of the house looked quite clean.
Jian Mo walked to the end near the foot of the mountain: "Let's plant the wood tinkle roots here?"
Wu Jiong nodded.
Jian Mo picked up the hoe: "I'll dig the hole first."
Wu Jiong took the hoe from his hand: "I'll dig. How deep should I dig?"
Jian Mo thought for a while: "It shouldn't need to be deep. No one dug a hole for it when it was on the mountain. Just dig a shallow hole to bury it."
Wu Jiong nodded, picked up the hoe and dug gently, digging out a hole about six or seven centimeters deep: "Like this?"
Jian Mo threw the seeds of the wood tinkle root into the hole, and then grabbed a handful of wood ash and threw it into the hole: "Yes, that's it, fill the soil back."
Wu Jiong filled the hole with the soil he had just dug out, and it was soon filled.
Jian Mo instructed: "Dig a second hole at an arm's length away."
The roots of the wood tinkle can grow as thick as a person's thigh, so the row spacing may need to be appropriately widened to leave it with sufficient growth space.
Wu Jiong did not hesitate and dug the hole according to Jian Mo's request.
One person dug the hole and the other planted the seeds. With the cooperation of the two, the planting was very fast.
As they were planting, Wu Jiong raised his head and said, "How many fruits are there in total?"
Jian Mo looked down at the basket and said, "Two hundred and seventy-seven."
Wu Jiong said, "More than I thought. What do we need to do after planting?"
"It seems that we don't need to do anything." Jian Mo didn't have much experience in planting. "I see that they grow very well in the wild. We shouldn't need to water them often. At most, we can water them when the weather is too dry, and then bury fertilizer again when they bear fruit."
Wu Jiong turned his head and took a look at the fruits that had just been planted.
With so many fruits, even if they don't grow very well, it will definitely be a big harvest to dig them out when they are ripe.
Wu Jiong lowered his head and continued digging the hole: "If I see the fruits of the wood ding root when I go up the mountain, I will pick them up."
Jian Mo didn't expect him to react to the significance of planting so quickly. He looked at him in surprise and smiled, "Okay."
After planting the wood ding root, Jian Mo also planted the herbs he dug up next to it.
This way they can be used at any time, and there is no need to go up the mountain to find them when they are urgently needed.
They got up early today. After planting all the wood ding roots and herbs and watering them, most of the families in the tribe were still making breakfast.
The smoke from the cooking was curling, and the aroma of various foods wafted out.
The children who had already transformed were running around in the tribe with the cubs who could not yet transform, and their laughter could be heard from far away.
Jian Mo looked at this peaceful tribe and began to like this world.
Such an ordinary life is also good.
The sun was getting higher, and most of the adults in the tribe went out hunting or gathering.
Jian Mo walked a long distance yesterday and dug wood roots for a long time. He was sore all over, so he took a rest in the tribe.
The pace of life in their tribe is okay. People don't go out hunting or gathering every day, but take turns to rest.
Jian Mo twisted the wool for a while at home and felt a little cold, so he simply took the yarn out to the open space outside to twist it.
There is sunshine outside, rocks to sit on, and you can see snow-capped mountains, rivers and forests. It is more comfortable than staying at home.
He took a small basket of animal hair and a homemade spinning hammer and went to the open space outside.
There were children and cubs playing in the open space. When they saw him, they all came over and watched him spinning with curiosity.
Slowly, other adults came to join in the fun.
An old beastman came to watch him spinning and his small spinning hammer, and said with a smile: "Your little gadget is really well made. We twist the ropes and threads directly with our hands."
Jian Mo: "It's more convenient with tools."
His small spinning hammer is a stone. When it is twisted, it uses gravity to twist the hair into a strand.
Anyway, it's all his own thread, so there's no need to be too particular, just try to make the thread as uniform as possible.
The beastmen watched for a while, and then found a stone to help him spin the thread.
Jian Mo originally wanted to remind them of the key points of spinning, but he didn't expect the Ya Beast people to get the hang of it so quickly. They figured out how to do it after just a little fiddling, and the yarn they spun was even more uniform than his.
Seeing his surprised expression, Ye Luo, who was more familiar with him, said, "So many ropes in the tribe were made by us. The principle of spinning is the same. It's not difficult."
Jian Mo praised, "It's not difficult if you know how to do it. I don't know how to spin. I spent the whole night thinking about it yesterday and finally figured out this method."
Ye Luo asked, "What do you want to do with these threads? Twist ropes?"
Jian Mo: "No, I want to weave these threads into cloth and then make clothes. But I haven't thought of a weaving method yet, I'm slowly studying it."
Ye Luo raised his eyebrows, "Qing Kuan knows how, he showed us the cloth before."
Another beastman said, "I'll call Qing Kuan over, he's also resting today."
As he said that, the beastman got up and ran to find Qing Kuan. Jian Mo didn't even have time to call him.
After a while, the tall and long-legged Qingkuan came over with a small piece of woven fabric in his hand. He looked cooler than a model: "What kind of fabric do you want? This is all I know how to make."
Jian Mo quickly moved aside to make room for Qingkuan: "Let me see."
Qingkuan was not polite either, and sat down on the seat vacated by Jian Mo: "It's for you."
Jian Mo quickly thanked him and carefully examined the fabric in his hand.
The fabric was woven very smoothly, with delicate stitches and a little diamond pattern on it, which looked very exquisite.
The pattern was not dyed, but woven.
Jian Mo touched it. He originally wanted to use the warp and weft method to weave the fabric, and it would be considered a success if it could be shaped. He didn't expect Qingkuan to be able to weave patterns.
It's amazing!
Qing Kuang looked at him with a slightly smug look on his face: "How's it going?"
Jian Mo said without hesitation: "You are amazing! This cloth is really good!"
Qingkuang was satisfied: "You want cloth like this?"
"Yes, yes, this kind of cloth will do." Jian Mo took out the spun thread and held it in front of Qingkuang, "Help me look at the thread. Can such a thick thread be used to weave cloth?"
Qingkuang took the thread from his hand and looked at it carefully for a while: "Thinner. The cloth woven with thin thread is also more delicate and smooth. Such a thick thread will have lumps in the cloth and will be difficult to wear."
Jian Mo: "How thin a thread do you want?"
Qingkuang looked at it. He looked at his spinning hammer, then reached out to take the ball of wool, fiddled with it twice, and twisted it into a thread not much thicker than a hair: "It's this thick at most, you should put less wool."
Jian Mo looked at the thread he spun, and then looked at the thread he spun before, and deeply felt the gap between people: "I'll try again."
Jian Mo's hands were not very skillful, and he struggled for a while before spinning a thread of suitable thickness.
Qingkuang shook his head beside him and spun with him. The thread he spun was fine and strong, with a faint luster, just like a work of art.
The other beastmen spun together, and although the threads they spun were not as good as Qingkuang, they were better than Jian Mo.
Everyone chatted while working.
Qing Kuang asked Jian Mo casually: "Do you want to do anything? If you want to make clothes, I have extra animal skins at home."
Jian Mo quickly clarified again: "I can use the animal skins from Wu Jiong's house as I please. I mainly want to spin the yarn to weave some socks, underwear and other close-fitting clothes. Animal skins are not very breathable and they are a bit stuffy."
Everyone looked at his feet. Qing Kuang asked: "What are socks?"
Jian Mo had to take off the socks he had just put on this morning and show them to everyone: "This is what it looks like. It absorbs sweat and resists wear. It is more comfortable to wear."
No one minded at all . Jian Mo was interested in the socks he had worn before. After passing them around, Qing Kuang said to him, "Your tribe has great skills."
Jian Mo quickly put his feet, which had been re-stuffed with socks, into his shoes: "Not bad."
Qing Kuang stared at his feet: "If it were socks like this, I would also be able to weave them, but I don't know how to make the elastic fabric at the tail."
Jian Mo immediately said, "Don't worry, we can weave the fabric at the tail into a belt, and then just tie it up."
After starting this conversation, everyone started discussing how long the socks should be woven and how to tie the belt so that it wouldn't fall off.
Qing Kuang and his friends immediately broke off a few branches and started weaving socks with the thread they had just spun.
Jian Mo had not expected that everyone was so efficient. They spun and wove at the same time. From morning to afternoon, everyone had woven a small piece of cloth.
As they wove, they also compared and adjusted with Jian Mo's feet.
At this rate, it was estimated that the work would be finished tonight.
People who went out to gather and hunt came back one after another, bringing back abundant prey.
Those who participated in the weaving went to get food first, and agreed to come back to weave socks after dinner.
Jian Mo was embarrassed and went to discuss it with Wu Jiong. After Wu Jiong agreed, he called Qing Kuang and the others and said, "Why don't you all have dinner at our house tonight? I'll stew meat for everyone."
Facing Jian Mo's nervous eyes, Qing Kuang smiled and agreed first, "Okay, thank you for your hard work."
Jian Mo nodded quickly, "Of course."
Jian Mo said he wanted to treat everyone to dinner, and he hurriedly prepared it. For
so many people to eat, in addition to the main dish of stewed meat with wood roots, there must be a few side dishes.
His specialty fried meat cakes must be served, as well as mixed wild vegetables and a soup...
Jian Mo was silently calculating in his heart, and Wu Jiong came over to help.
Seeing him like this, Jian Mo quickly said, "You've been tired all day, take a break, I'll do it."
Wu Jiong: "I'm not tired. How do you cut this meat?"
Jian Mo looked at his face and saw that he was in good condition, so he said, "Cut it into pieces. I'll show you how big a piece should be."
Wu Jiong handed the shell knife to Jian Mo.
Jian Mo took the meat in his hand and cut it into mahjong pieces: "I need to cut it like this."
Wu Jiong nodded to show that he understood: "I'll call you over after it's done."
They were cooking here, and the Asian beasts who had finished their housework came over one after another and watched Jian Mo cook.
Jian Mo took a deep breath, straightened his back, and demonstrated a series of techniques such as marinating meat, frying spices, frying meat pieces, and stewing meat with boiling water.
Everyone watched him do each step, and finally understood why the meal he made was so delicious.
When the meal was ready, everyone ate around the fire and gave Jian Mo enthusiastic praise.
Jian Mo was embarrassed to be praised in the crowd, so he had to lower his head to eat.
After the meal, everyone took out the wool and started knitting socks in one go.
Except for Qing Kuang who could weave it in one piece, everyone else had to weave several pieces of cloth first and then piece the cloth together.
Everyone's socks had a long thread left at the back. After they were woven, the instep was short and the heel was long. The heel part was pulled up, and the thread was wrapped around the ankle twice and tied.
Everyone looked at Jian Mo's new socks and asked him, "How are they?"
Jian Mo stood up and walked around on the spot.
Beast fur is soft, and after being woven into socks, it is even warmer and more comfortable.
The best thing is that it has a certain thickness, and the wrapping and support are very good. Wearing such socks is very comfortable.
He couldn't help but walk back and forth a few steps, and exclaimed: "Very good! It's more comfortable to wear than my original socks."
Qing Kuang raised his chin slightly: "Of course, we spent a whole day making socks."
Jian Mo smiled and raised his thumb.
Everyone laughed together.
Jian Mo picked up another sock that had not been worn: "Do you want to try it?"
The Asian beasts looked at each other, a little shy.
Qing Kuang reached out and took the socks: "I'll do it."
Everyone watched Qing Kuang put on the socks and walked two more steps.
Ye Luo stared at him and asked, "How does it feel?"
Qing Kuo's face was filled with surprise: "I've never worn it before, so I'm a little uncomfortable, but it's quite warm and comfortable."
After a pause, Qing Kuang looked down at the socks on his feet: "They are definitely warm and comfortable to wear in winter. With socks on, the animal leather boots should not get dirty for a long time."
Jian Mo couldn't help but marvel at his wisdom: "One of the uses of socks is this. They can absorb sweat and keep the feet warm and dry. Wearing socks and then boots will indeed be much more comfortable."
Qing Kuang took off the socks: "What a good thing."
Jian Mo: "Then you can weave a few more pairs."
The technical difficulty of weaving socks is not great. After weaving for a day today, everyone basically knows how to weave.
After hearing what Jian Mo said, everyone said that they would continue weaving tomorrow.
Sure enough, when Jian Mo followed him out to collect the fur the next day, he found that everyone had a spinning hammer and fur.
However, the fur in everyone's hands was varied and of completely different varieties.
Jian Mo looked at the large amount of animal hair and couldn't help asking, "Where does this animal hair come from? Don't you collect animal hair?"
Animal skins have basically replaced cloth in the tribe. They are all used in their entirety, and the hair on them is not shaved off specifically.
Jian Mo also saw the pool in the forest that was specially used for tanning animal skins. A large amount of bark and tree sap were placed at the bottom to soak with the animal skins.
The animal skins and animal hairs were all there.
I don't know where the animal hair in everyone's hands came from, it looks like the quality is pretty good.
Speaking of this, everyone laughed, and many people showed embarrassed expressions on their faces.
Qing Kuang held up the animal hair in his hand: "Orcs shed their fur every spring and autumn. This is the animal hair of my cub."
Jian Mo looked at the pile of soft gray-white animal hair, and thought of the little cat he saw when he first came to this world. He nodded in sudden realization.
He looked at the somewhat shy sub-orcs.
The animal hair used by these sub-orcs should be the animal hair shed by their partners.
It is worthy of being an orc world, quite unique.
