Chapter 7 Visiting Grandma

"What on earth are you planning, kid?"

Sun Youfang frowned and questioned Yin Yunjie dissatisfiedly, with a hint of suspicion and vigilance in his tone.

Xu Qinghe nodded slightly to Yin Yunjie, signaling him to continue.

In Sun Youfang's view, this simple action was undoubtedly the little girl's clear intention to leave her and her son behind.

The signal of living alone made her eyes flash with disbelief and her heart was filled with mixed feelings.

"That's right, grandma, you've observed it very carefully. From now on, grandma and I will cook and eat alone, and you two can do whatever you want. We won't interfere with each other. You, behave yourself and don't have any bad ideas. Yin Yunjie is my legal husband now. If you dare to touch my things, don't blame him for being ruthless!"

Xu Qinghe spoke firmly, then pulled out the bright red marriage certificate from his pocket and waved it in front of Sun Youfang without any concealment. This action directly made Sun Youfang so angry that her eyes rolled back and she almost fainted. She retorted repeatedly: "How can a marriage obtained with your little tricks last? Yin Yunjie is not a three-year-old child. Sooner or later, he will see through you. I'll see if you cry when you are kicked out!"

Upon hearing this, Xu Qinghe glanced at Sun Youfang indifferently.

It was as if I was examining an ancient and outdated exhibit, and I secretly sighed that in this day and age there are still people who use such outdated concepts to judge marriage.

"Auntie, it's time to wake up. You're still dreaming about the past so early in the morning!"

Xu Qinghe said this, rolled his eyes in disdain, and walked over the threshold and into the house.

As soon as you enter the room, what catches your eye is Yin Yunjie's smooth and fluid tidying movements. He quickly and orderly put Xu Qinghe's things in the corner. Everything is arranged in an orderly manner, demonstrating the rigor and efficiency unique to soldiers.

"Um...thank you..."

Xu Qinghe touched his nose slightly, and suddenly, a subtle and awkward atmosphere filled the air, causing both of them to fall silent for a moment.

Thinking back to when I was outside just now, I tried my best to pretend to be indestructible.

Now thinking back on that feigned calm expression and the deliberately raised tone of voice.

Her cheeks involuntarily flushed with embarrassment.

It seemed as if I could feel the temperature of the air around me rising quietly.

"It's okay, it's what I should do."

Yin Yunjie responded calmly, his tone gentle but with unquestionable firmness.

His eyes slowly swept across the extremely simple hut, and every detail seemed to be taken in by him.

In the middle of the room, a wooden bed so old that almost all its color had faded lay quietly.

The random piles of debris around here reveal that this place used to be a storage room in the past. The air is filled with a faint smell of mold and the silence of time.

After looking around, Yin Yunjie gradually formed a clear picture in his mind.

The scarcity here was far beyond his imagination. From the most basic daily necessities to the decorations that could make people feel a little warm, everything was missing.

"Well...it's getting late, I'll go cook..."

There was a hint of embarrassment in Xu Qinghe's words, and he tried to cover up the discomfort by being busy.

Just at this moment, a trembling voice called out from outside the house, the voice full of uncertainty yet expectation: "Qinghe? Is Qinghe back?"

That was the original owner's grandmother Zhu Yunxiu, and the years had left deep marks on her.

Due to his limited mobility and hearing loss, the inquiry sounded slow and tender.

Facing this old man who has endless love for his old self.

Xu Qinghe felt mixed emotions and couldn't find the right words to respond for a moment.

It was late last night, and she had already forgotten about it when she hurried in.

This morning, he had a heated argument with Sun Youfang while holding a kitchen knife.

He took the household registration book and left in a hurry without considering the old man's condition at all.

"Hey, grandma, it's me! What's wrong with you?"

Xu Qinghe gave Yin Yunjie an apologetic look, then quickly moved to the next room.

I thought that maybe it was because grandma had difficulty walking and needed help with her physiological needs.

Occupying this body, taking care of the kind-looking old man in front of her naturally became her unshirkable responsibility.

Zhu Yunxiu was old and had a light sleep, so she woke up before dawn.

She originally planned to go to the yard to enjoy the warmth of the sun for a while, but unexpectedly, Sun Youfang's scolding outside the door made her feel scared.

I was worried that I would be treated the same way if I went out, and I was even more afraid that my only granddaughter would be implicated.

I could only endure the discomfort and curl up in bed.

"Grandma, are you feeling unwell?"

When Xu Qinghe stepped into the room and saw the skinny figure on the bed, an indescribable sadness suddenly surged in his heart.

At this moment, her concern was not only to make up for the regrets of the previous owner, but more from the deep sympathy that naturally emerged from the bottom of her heart for this lonely and helpless old man.

"Oh, I'm fine, just asking casually. If it really is my precious granddaughter who has returned, I'll go out for some fresh air. Why are you finishing work so late today? Have you taken on more work for yourself?"

In that era when the household contract responsibility system had not yet been implemented, every household had to earn work points through collective labor.

Digging into her memory, she realized that the previous owner always worked in the fields regardless of the consequences just to earn a few more work points. The hardships behind this made Sun Youfang less harsh towards her and her granddaughter.

Although Zhu Yunxiu has difficulty walking, she still maintains her dignity. Relying on a smoothly polished small cane, she moves slowly around the house day after day and never bothers others easily.

A small urinal is quietly placed in the corner of the room, in case of emergency, even in the most difficult moments.

She always handled it alone and silently, and never wanted to let her beloved granddaughter touch these dirty and tiring tasks.

That deep love is silently hidden in every tiny movement.

Xu Qinghe's movements were gentle and delicate, as if she were touching the most precious treasure in the world. She gently supported the old woman, a bright smile on her face, that smile was like the warm spring sun, melting the winter frost. She announced cheerfully, "Grandma, I'm not going to work today. I'm going to get married to my sweetheart and get that red marriage certificate!"

There was uncontrollable joy in her voice, and she raised her voice deliberately to ensure that the old man could hear clearly.

These words even drifted outside the door, causing Sun Youfang, who was busy, to raise his eyebrows.

Although he felt a little unhappy, when he saw Yin Yunjie walking towards the kitchen, he hurriedly followed him without paying attention to anything else.

Zhu Yunxiu was stunned for a moment, as if struck by this sudden news.

He repeated in disbelief, his voice filled with uncertainty, "Yue'er, is what you just said true? Are you going... to get married?"

As she spoke, her eyes flickered, full of surprise and disbelief.
