Chapter 127 Xie Family Maid
The sun shone brightly, and the blue sky was reflected on the lake, creating a shimmering, breathtaking scene.
The main road in Baizhi Town is paved with stone slabs, and there are countless shops of all kinds. The stalls on both sides of the road are also more formal and neatly arranged.
The Xie residence is located in the east of the town. A row of houses there belong to the village's wealthy families, so there are also many people who set up stalls to sell snacks.
Chen Yongxing and Wan Qiqi parked the mule cart near the lake, which was the best place to observe the Xie residence's movements. There were many people coming and going, making it easier to find out about the Xie family's situation.
These people were noticeably calmer than the locals of Hefeng Town when faced with newcomers. They simply came over to remind them to move their stalls back, otherwise it would affect the carriages of these wealthy families.
Wan Qiqi left Chen Yongxing and Lin Dazhuang to watch the stall while she wandered around.
At first, she just thought this town was twice the size of Hefeng Town. But after wandering among the shops and vendors, she realized that this place was much more developed than Hefeng Town.
Both the town's construction and the goods supplied appear to be of a much higher standard.
She wandered around for a while, circling the outer wall of the Xie residence.
The servants coming and going in the backyard were all dressed in uniform, and their clothes were made of better material than those worn by the villagers. Some of the maids even wore ornaments in their hair and stood next to the elegantly dressed young ladies.
Wan Qiqi felt that this was the normal setup for time travel.
Looking at my faded clothes, I couldn't help but complain: What is this?
She sighed inwardly, thinking: If I'm not destined to be a master, then I'll create the conditions myself and turn the tables!
Lakeside.
Lin Dazhuang stared wide-eyed at the people coming in and out of the Xie residence.
Even the servants are dressed so well; they must be from a wealthy family!
He felt that if his sister married into such a family, she would definitely enjoy a life of luxury, but...
Unfortunately, the man my sister was to marry was sickly and also a man who would bring misfortune to his wives.
He didn't want his sister to lose her life for a day or two of pleasure.
Chen Yongxing was busy standing by and called out, "Dazhuang, don't just stand there, come and help wash the cups." He suddenly felt that he should have let his sister-in-law set up a stall in Baizhi Town in the first place.
Meeting Li Fugui from Guanshi Village is better than meeting Tang Qiwen, at least Li Fugui doesn't have the power and influence that Tang Qiwen does.
Lin Dazhuang was stunned for a moment before squatting down to wash the cup.
At that moment, a well-dressed woman stopped in front of the stall.
What kind of sweet soup do you sell here? I've never seen it before.
Chen Yongxing looked up and sized up the woman in front of him.
She was dressed as a servant of the Xie family, with a hairpin in her hair and a bracelet on her wrist; she was clearly not an ordinary maid.
Chen Yongxing paused for a moment, then smiled faintly, "Miss, this is honey pomelo syrup. I made it myself with honey and pomelo. This is my first time in Baizhi Town."
The maid nodded, listening to the person beside her say it was delicious. She lowered her eyes, took out three copper coins from her bosom, tossed them down, and said indifferently, "Give me a cup."
Chen Yongxing frowned, and his smile vanished instantly.
Having run this stall for so long, this is the first time I've ever seen a customer throw copper coins on the ground, like they're giving money away to a beggar.
He lowered his head, trying to calm himself, but he just couldn't swallow his anger.
This is so humiliating!
The others were also taken aback by her behavior, but quickly regained their composure, acting as if it were nothing unusual.
At this moment, another slender hand picked up three copper coins from the ground.
Chen Yongxing looked up and met Wan Qiqi's eyes, somewhat taken aback.
"Second brother, what's wrong with you? You can't even hold the money properly?" Wan Qiqi straightened up, blew on the copper coins twice, smiled at the maid, and turned to Chen Yongxing, calling out, "Hurry up, what are you standing there for?"
Her attitude was as if she had returned to her former arrogant and domineering self.
The maid smiled faintly, "It's alright, I just didn't see clearly." She could sense that this woman was the owner of the stall.
Someone who can command the men in her household must possess some skill.
The maidservant sized up Wan Qiqi for a moment and asked, "Where are you from? I've never seen you before."
"Well, we're just from a small village, trying to earn some money to get through the winter," Wan Qiqi said, glancing at the Xie residence. "This young sir is from the Xie family, right? Judging from your extraordinary bearing, you must be a favorite of some master. Please patronize our business in the future."
As she spoke, she put the three copper coins back into the maid's hand.
Upon seeing this, the maid smiled faintly, thinking that this was indeed a sensible person, and she liked what he said. She said smugly, "Alright, from now on, I'll protect your business!"
Wan Qiqi maintained a smile and chatted casually with the maid. After learning whose maid she was, she paused for a moment.
She never expected to be so lucky, running into the maid of the Xie family's youngest son.
This person is called Dong'er. She has been taking care of the young master since she was a child. She is the person who has stayed by the young master's side the longest and is the one he trusts the most.
Wan Qiqi watched her drink the sweet soup and asked with a smile, "I saw that the manor is buying red silk. Is there some happy occasion?"
Dong'er's face darkened rapidly, and her eyes showed even more disgust, as if she particularly disliked this matter.
She gulped down the sugar water, threw the cup into the bucket, and splashed water all over Lin Dazhuang's face.
"There's nothing to celebrate, you've misunderstood." Dong'er's tone grew cold as she glanced at the sky. "If you want to do business, don't go asking around." With that, she turned and left the stall.
The servants from the Xie family who had been surrounding the shop selling the sweet soup quickly finished their drinks and left.
Chen Yongxing and Lin Dazhuang watched Dong'er's figure with indignation, feeling that this person was too arrogant, as if she were the master of the Xie family!
Wan Qiqi discovered that this person might really want to be the mistress of the Xie family; at the very least, Dong'er's feelings for the young master of the Xie family were not innocent!
