Is Chapter 144 really going to be sold at this price?
As dawn broke, frost blanketed the grassland.
Wan Qiqi felt as if the weather had gotten even colder, making her shiver.
Looking at the vegetable garden, she felt that this was far from enough, and said to Chen Yongxing, who had just come out of the house, "Come here."
When Chen Yongxing saw Wan Qiqi standing at the entrance of the vegetable garden, he had a bad feeling.
With each step he took, he felt his steps were heavy.
"What are you dawdling for? Hurry up, we still have things to do later!" Wan Qiqi pulled Chen Yongxing to the entrance of the vegetable garden and pointed to the straw covered with frost, saying, "I'm giving you a task today: build a straw shed for the vegetable garden... about your own height, and make sure it's sturdy."
Chen Yongxing breathed a sigh of relief and replied cheerfully, "Okay, I promise to complete it."
Wan Qiqi was puzzled as to why Chen Yongxing seemed relieved. Did she look that scary?
She tilted her head and stared at Chen Yongxing, trying to find the answer.
Unbeknownst to her, when she first transmigrated, Chen Yongxing was afraid of her, fearing her anger and trouble. Now, the invisible pressure emanating from her made Chen Yongxing feel stressed.
When she first took over the body, Wan Qiqi still gave people the impression of a shrewish village woman, but as time went on, the temperament of a modern strong woman emerged.
Even though she wears the same clothes, she remains a unique presence among the villagers, giving people a different feeling.
Once the task was assigned, they began making the cakes.
Hollow sugar pancakes are filled with a mixture of flour and sugar, topped with white sesame seeds, and baked until extremely fragrant.
Chen Yongxing stood guard in front of the stove, and after eating three in a row, he still craved more.
The baked flatbreads were packed in two large bamboo baskets, each containing two different flavors.
After making two large baskets, there was still some flour left. Wan Qiqi put it in a wooden basin and secured it to the mule cart, along with several jars of honey pomelo jam.
Today, everyone's breakfast consisted of flatbread and a bowl of brown rice porridge.
Pingping and An'an were still sleeping when they smelled the aroma in the yard. They followed the scent out and, without even washing up, immediately ate a pancake, which earned them a scolding from Wan Qiqi.
But the two little ones seemed to have gotten used to it, listening to the music while munching on their pancakes, leaving Wan Qiqi feeling helpless.
Others were afraid of her, but these two brats weren't afraid at all, as if they were certain she wouldn't do anything.
After breakfast, Yunniang and Lin Dazhuang arrived.
As usual, Yunniang was at home making honey pomelo jam, while Lin Dazhuang went to town with Wan Qiqi to deliver the jam.
She's not going to Baizhi Town today, so Lin Dazhuang will deliver the honey pomelo jam.
On the way, they met Sun Qian's oxcart, chatted for a few words, and then sped up to head towards Hefeng Town.
The villagers of Lianhua Village couldn't help but start talking about it again inside the oxcart.
"Chen's eldest daughter-in-law is quite the talker now; I heard she's even expanded her business to Baizhi Town."
"Yes, I've heard my relatives in Baizhi Town say that her sweet soup tastes amazing!"
"Can you smell that? It smells so good in her mule cart, like bread, even better than any I've ever had in town!"
"That's all hers, not us. She's rich and powerful now, while we're struggling to get through the winter."
"Oh, don't even mention it! All the vegetables I planted in my garden have withered and died. How am I going to survive?!"
"Let's gather as many wild vegetables as possible before the snow falls, otherwise we'll starve if the heavy snow closes the mountain!"
...
When Wan Qiqi arrived at Hefeng Town, Chen Yongliang and Chen Yongnian were waiting for her at the town entrance.
One person, dressed simply, and the other, dressed in coarse cloth, stood at the entrance of the town, like guards watching over the town gate.
The mule cart stopped, and Wan Qiqi jumped down, walked up to the two men, and looked at Chen Yongnian. "Nothing happening at the martial arts school today?"
Chen Yongnian replied, "Yes, we need to go to Baizhi Town."
Wan Qiqi casually asked, "What are you going to get it for?" Then she realized she shouldn't have bothered with it so much.
Although Chen Yongnian is her husband, he works for the martial arts school and many things need to be kept secret, so she shouldn't ask too many questions.
However, Chen Yongnian answered very seriously: "My master asked me to deliver a message. I will be back before noon to help you set up your stall."
He's still the same!
Wan Qiqi noticed that Chen Yongnian was particularly concerned about her affairs.
She said calmly, "It's alright, you're busy. Be careful on the road, everyone here can help."
"Okay." Chen Yongnian nodded, looked at Lin Dazhuang, and said, "Let's go!"
After unloading two baskets of flatbread and three jars of sauce, the two entered the town together.
Chen Yongliang delivered honey pomelo jam to the dessert shop and the academy, while Wan Qiqi delivered it to Xiangmingxuan.
As soon as she arrived at the teahouse entrance, the waiter saw Wan Qiqi and immediately went up to her, "Miss Wan, it's been a long time! The boss has been waiting for you several times, thinking you weren't coming!"
"No way!" Wan Qiqi laughed and walked inside.
She had met the people at the teahouse several times. The waiter, named Xiao Liuzi, was from the town. Because his family was poor, he came to work at a young age.
Seeing that he was quick-witted and efficient, Boss Zhu kept him in the shop.
Xiao Liu followed Wan Qiqi for a couple of steps, sniffed the air, swallowed hard, and asked with a smile, "Miss Wan, what good stuff is in your basket? It smells so good!"
Wan Qiqi placed the honey grapefruit jam on the counter, took down the basket, and uncovered the white cloth covering it, revealing rows of golden-brown baked cakes. "Would you like to try one of these cakes I made?"
Xiao Liu slurped his saliva, smacked his lips a few times, and reached out to grab it, but then stopped.
He smiled and withdrew his hand, saying, "I can still smell the meat, so the price must be quite high, right? But forget it, I only have this much money each day, it doesn't last long."
Wan Qiqi never expected that a child even younger than Chen Yongliang would be so poor, unable to even afford two pancakes.
She took one out and handed it over, saying, "It's okay, I can have this one..."
