Chapter 154 Farewell
It was past 5:45 AM, the sky was dark, and no colorful clouds could be seen on the horizon.
Wan Qiqi looked at the hillside where the sun usually rises and couldn't help but sigh.
Chen Yongliang packed the jam into a basket, tied it to the mule's back, and only let go after making sure it was secure. He turned around and said, "Sister-in-law, don't worry. We often go out in this kind of weather."
Wan Qiqi nodded casually.
She wasn't worried about that, but she felt that the weather was getting colder and the sun wasn't shining, so it might start to snow.
She had always lived in the south and rarely saw snow, so she would be very happy when it did. Now that she was here, she felt it would be better if it didn't snow.
The successive disasters have left most people with little to no food reserves. They rely on the mountains for sustenance, and when snow falls, they can only wait to starve to death!
It's snowing, and her business is not doing well.
Inside the main room, the sound of a porcelain bowl shattering came from outside, startling the two people outside who immediately rushed in.
Wang's hands trembled in mid-air, her lips quivered, and her eyes were filled with tears, as if they were about to burst forth and transform into a surging river to pour out her discontent.
Chen Yongnian knelt opposite her, his head slightly lowered, staring at the ground, not daring to look up at her.
Chen Yongxing stood to the side, his face full of shock. When he met Chen Yongliang's questioning gaze, he turned his face away.
Wan Qiqi guessed what had happened, walked over slowly, helped Wang Shi sit down, and whispered, "Mother, I agree to let him go!"
She looked at Chen Yongnian, smiled, and said calmly, “A true man has things he should and shouldn’t do. Eliminating harm for the people is a good deed. If they can really wipe out the bandits in one fell swoop, it will be a great act of justice for both the court and the people, and it will also prevent the people of Yunhe County from suffering persecution from the mountain bandits.”
Chen Yongliang then realized what was happening and hurriedly knelt down. "Mother, sister-in-law, let me handle this! I'm not married yet, so I have no worries!"
"No way!" Chen Yongnian immediately refused. "The bandits are not ordinary rioters. You'll just be throwing your life away if you go."
“Yes, this matter can only be handled by Yongnian.” Wan Qiqi couldn’t stand seeing the two of them kneeling, so she stepped forward and helped them up. “Your eldest brother’s master, Instructor Xue, is also going this time, so he will naturally follow.”
She stopped in front of Chen Yongliang and continued, "And my sister-in-law needs you to stay and help!"
"But...but brother..." Chen Yongliang knew how powerful the bandits were, which was why he didn't want his brother to go.
He was the only unmarried person in the family, and he had two older brothers, so he was the most suitable person to go.
Pingping and An'an were so excited to see their older brother yesterday.
If we send our eldest brother to wipe out the bandits, he might not return. What will happen to the two little ones? What will happen to our sister-in-law?
Wan Qiqi, however, felt that Chen Yongliang was the least suitable candidate.
They are young, unmarried, and have no worries about the future. They will rush to the front without hesitation, which makes them most likely to get into trouble and never return.
On the contrary, Chen Yongnian, who has a family and children, cherishes his life because of his worries, and will definitely think more carefully before wanting to return.
Hearing their argument, Wang said in a trembling voice, "Alright, stop arguing, let's go to Yongnian!"
She didn't want any of her three brothers to be in danger, but as long as the bandits weren't eliminated, they would inevitably harm Yunhe County and threaten their safety.
But every time she had to send her son away, it pained her deeply!
Tears flowed like a long river down my cheeks.
A mix of emotions filled the room, creating a slightly somber atmosphere.
Wan Qiqi comforted him, "This is a good thing. If he helps and makes a contribution, he will surely be rewarded. He might even find a new way out."
Apart from Chen Yongnian, the other three seemed somewhat perfunctory in their performance.
They then dispersed, preparing equipment for Chen Yongnian's departure, leaving Wan Qiqi alone to accompany him.
Chen Yongnian stood opposite Wan Qiqi, bowing his head slightly, and said, "My wife, thank you."
The two stood face to face. Wan Qiqi was a head shorter than Chen Yongnian and appeared somewhat petite in his presence.
But in Chen Yongnian's heart, Wan Qiqi was incredibly noble.
Wan Qiqi didn't think much of it at first, but for some reason, after hearing Chen Yongnian's thanks, she felt a little sad.
She looked up at Chen Yongnian, a slight smile playing on her lips, but her eyes glistened with tears. "What do you want to thank me for?"
Chen Yongnian was about to speak when he heard her say, "If you really want to thank me, come back alive."
She didn't ask that he wouldn't get hurt; she just wanted him to come back.
In war, there are never no casualties; the only difference is between life and death.
It's good that you're alive!
Before leaving home, Chen Yongnian was carrying large and small bags, but he didn't know what was inside. He simply accepted them all.
Wan Qiqi wrapped something in cloth that looked like a stick and handed it to Chen Yongnian. "Remember, only use this if you're in mortal danger. Don't let anyone see it. There's a button on it; just keep pressing it and pointing the stick at the other person!"
Yes, Wan Qiqi bought a stun gun at the mall.
Although the voltage was small, it could save Chen Yongnian's life in times of crisis.
Chen Yongnian tossed it a couple of times, nodded, and asked cautiously, "Wife, may I hug you?"
Wan Qiqi was taken aback. Before the other person could react, she wrapped her arms around his waist, buried her head in his shoulder, and whispered, "Be careful. We'll wait for you to come back."
Chen Yongnian stiffened for a moment before daring to reach out and hug her, saying in a hoarse voice, "Okay, my wife, wait for me."
Chen Yongliang felt tears welling up in his eyes, but he still urged, "Brother, let's go, or I'll miss the time required by the teahouse in Baizhi Town!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he was met with several eye rolls. Feeling shivered from the stares, he could only weakly lower his head.
