Chapter 161 Goodbye
Erpang didn't understand the meaning behind the words. He quickly drank the sugar water, downing half of it in one gulp, and kept praising it, "Delicious! Really delicious!"
Turning around, I saw Wu Gousheng holding a full cup, his face looking rather unpleasant.
"Brother Gousheng, drink up, it's delicious!"
Wu Gousheng glanced at him.
Don't you want to drink it?
The woman's words were loaded with meaning; he pondered how to respond.
Erpang finished his sugar water and, seeing that Wu Gousheng hadn't started yet, smacked his lips a few times, swallowed hard, and asked, "Brother Gousheng, do you like it? If you don't, I'll drink it for you."
Wu Gousheng, annoyed by the noise, snapped, "Shut up!"
Then, after receiving a warning look from Wan Qiqi, he lowered his voice and cursed, "Get lost after you finish drinking, and don't bother me!"
"Oh." Erpang lowered his head with slight disappointment, then reached out to the bamboo cup that Wu Gousheng was holding.
Wu Gousheng was startled. What was this simpleton trying to do? Was he going to try and steal his drink?
Seeing that he wouldn't let go, Erpang asked in confusion, "Brother Gousheng, let go!"
Why did I let go?
"Didn't you tell me to finish drinking and get out?"
Unable to bear it any longer, Wu Gousheng kicked Erpang in the stomach, sending him staggering back a good distance before he fell to the ground with a thud.
Erpang, looking completely bewildered, clutched his stomach, which was throbbing from the kick, and sobbed a few times with a hint of grievance.
He knew that Gou Sheng was angry, but he didn't know why he was angry.
But he knew he had to stay away from the angry Gou Sheng Ge, or he would get beaten up.
Erpang quickly got up from the ground, dusted off his bottom, and walked outside.
He had only taken two steps when he turned back, returned the cup he was still clutching tightly even after it was kicked away to Wan Qiqi, and quickly disappeared from the Chen family's residence.
A faint smile appeared on Wan Qiqi's lips; she was already amused inside!
It was quite surprising that the villagers thought the little tyrant was actually a simpleton.
Wu Gousheng stared at the sugar water in his hand, recalling Erpang's greedy drinking habits. He knew it must taste very good, but how could he justify drinking it all?
After thinking it over and over, he finally said coldly, "At worst, I'll fetch you two buckets of water."
After saying this, he seemed quite satisfied and brought the bamboo cup he was holding to his mouth.
The refreshing aroma of pomelo and the sweetness of honey fill the mouth, sweet but not cloying, with a hint of astringency in the aftertaste, making it unforgettable.
He finally realized why Erpang had snatched the cup from his hand!
If he had finished his drink first, he probably would have snatched the cup from Erpang's hand.
But who is he?
He's the local tyrant in the east of the village, he wouldn't do something so tasteless!
Wan Qiqi thought he was going to unleash some amazing move after all that talk, but it turned out to be such a weak answer. He even seemed quite pleased with himself, as if he was very satisfied with the answer.
She couldn't help but shake her head.
As expected, physical strength deprives one of mental strength; one grows only in physique but not in brain!
An'an tugged at Wan Qiqi's clothes, looking innocent and obedient. "Mother, I want to drink sweet soup too."
Wan Qiqi met those big, bright eyes and was captivated by her cuteness. She sighed helplessly, "You and your brother each have half. You can't drink more."
The two little ones said in unison, "Okay!"
Seeing this, Wu Gousheng couldn't swallow the sugar water in his mouth for a long time.
Is this really the woman who just yelled at him?
After the winter bamboo shoots were harvested and the crowd dispersed, the children finished their sweet soup, put down their cups, and left together. Only Wu Gousheng, an "outsider," remained in the courtyard!
Chen Yongxing spent a long time trying to tally the weight, but still couldn't get a result.
Wan Qiqi turned her head to look at the empty money bag in Wang's hand and asked, "Mother, how much is left?"
When Wang reached into her purse, she only managed to pull out 15 coins.
"Adding the two bamboo shoots here from Wu Gousheng, it should be two hundred catties."
Wan Qiqi spoke calmly, yet the others looked on in surprise.
Lin Dazhuang couldn't help but sigh, "Five coins a pound, two hundred pounds, how much money would that be?"
Looking at the bamboo shoots piled up in the courtyard, Wan Qiqi calmly said, "Not too much, not too little, one tael of silver."
"One tael of silver!" Wang Shi never expected that she would actually give out one tael of silver just for settling accounts with each person!
This amount is not small; it's enough for a family to get through the winter!
Now, all that's gained is this pile of bamboo shoots.
Wang had many feelings in her heart, but she didn't know how to express them.
Wan Qiqi looked at the winter bamboo shoots, then at the sour jujubes, and said, "Yongxing and Wu Gousheng go fetch water first. Mother and I will wash the sour jujubes. Dazhuang will bring the bamboo shoots into the main room. Tomorrow we'll peel and cut them up to dry."
At her command, everyone sprang into action, except for Wu Gousheng, who stood there dumbfounded, looking somewhat lost, even wondering if he should have been there at all.
Wan Qiqi took out a large wooden bucket, poured in a bucket of water, and then poured the sour jujubes into the water to wash them.
Looking up, Wu Gousheng was still standing there, stunned.
"What are you still doing here? Go fetch some water!"
"..." Wu Gousheng was speechless at her self-righteousness. He didn't expect this woman to be so rude, as if he owed her something.
Seeing his speechless expression, Wan Qiqi almost burst out laughing, but she maintained a serious demeanor and teased, "If you want to renege on your debt, just go back. No one will say anything."
Wu Gousheng was so angry that his face turned red. How could there be such a woman? He was the one who had lost out, but she acted as if he owed her something. He shouted angrily, "Wan Qiqi, don't go too far!"
"Turn around and walk straight ahead. Goodbye, and don't bother seeing me off." Wan Qiqi said casually, starting to wash the sour jujubes.
The golden jujubes rolled around under the fair fingers, like playful fish leaping about.
