Chapter 163 Zhao Di's Beloved

Chapter 163 Zhao Di's Beloved

Wang rushed forward to stop Lin Zhaodi from making her next move.

"No, our bodies and hair are given to us by our parents, we cannot cut them!"

Lin Zhaodi was startled, but gradually regained her composure and stopped what she was doing. Tears welled up in her eyes and seemed to burst forth as if a valve had been opened.

Wang had always felt sorry for Lin Zhaodi's plight, and seeing this made her even more heartbroken. She buried Lin Zhaodi's head on her shoulder and hugged her as if she were comforting her own daughter, saying, "It's alright, it's alright, everything is over!"

The others watched from a distance and did not approach.

The three boys didn't know how to coax girls, but Wan Qiqi felt that Wang Shi was more suitable for doing so than she was.

"Your hair is messy, I'll fix it for you and make sure you look nice." Madam Wang gently patted Lin Zhaodi's back, comforting her little by little.

Wan Qiqi had just finished cooking the last dish when she walked over to the three men and whispered, "You guys continue peeling them. They'll be harder to handle when they're cold. After you're done peeling, use a stick to stir them so the flesh separates from the shell." She placed the clean rolling pin on the table and gently patted Chen Yongliang, "You come out with me."

Chen Yongliang was slightly confused. He could hear the heaviness in his sister-in-law's words, but he didn't understand why she had come to see him alone, yet still followed him out of the courtyard.

Wan Qiqi sighed as she gazed at the dark riverbank.

She knew perfectly well that Lin Zhaodi had torn her hair because she had seen Chen Yongliang and didn't want him to see her in such a disheveled state, but her younger brother was completely unaware of it.

Sometimes, she felt that Chen Yongliang was too much of a straight man, which was why he acted that way.

She heard the rumors about Chen Yongliang and Tao Jing in the village, and she also witnessed the relationship between the two herself.

Chen Yongliang sensed something was amiss from her sigh. "Sister-in-law, is there something you want to tell me?"

Wan Qiqi turned her head and stared at Chen Yongliang's youthful face, a hint of worry in her eyes.

"If your sister-in-law asks you to comfort Zhaodi, would you be willing?"

Chen Yongliang frowned. "Isn't it Mother and Dazhuang? Why am I being asked to comfort them?"

Wan Qiqi didn't answer him, but instead asked, "What if it's to comfort Tao Jing?"

"Comfort Miss Tao? Has something upset her?" Chen Yongliang, recalling that Tao Jing seemed to be in a bad mood these past two days, asked anxiously, "Sister-in-law, is something bothering Miss Tao? Tell me, and I'll help you resolve it!"

The two completely different reactions made Wan Qiqi realize that there aren't that many straight men; she just hadn't met someone she cared about.

It goes without saying that Chen Yongliang likes Tao Jing.

Wan Qiqi sighed again.

This sigh left Chen Yongliang even more confused. "Sister-in-law? Why are you acting so strangely today?"

Wan Qiqi stared at Chen Yongliang for a long time, shook her head, patted his shoulder, and sighed, "Your path is very difficult!"

The Tao family is a wealthy family, and Tao Jing is their beloved daughter. Marrying her is no easy task.

According to the villagers, one must be qualified to be a live-in son-in-law and be acceptable to others!

"What road? What difficulties?" Chen Yongliang felt that his sister-in-law was speaking increasingly strangely today, always saying things he couldn't understand.

He tried hard to recall, and it seemed that everything started when Lin Zhaodi came out.

But what is his relationship with Lin Zhaodi? Why should he comfort Lin Zhaodi when she has nothing to do with him?

Lin Dazhuang had been keeping an eye on Chen Yongliang and Wan Qiqi's movements. Seeing Wan Qiqi's expression upon returning, he was fairly certain of Chen Yongliang's choice.

Anyone would choose the Tao family's daughter over his sister, wouldn't they?

When Chen Yongliang returned to the courtyard, he met Lin Zhaodi's gaze. Seeing her quickly look away and even seem somewhat flustered, he vaguely guessed that his sister-in-law was acting strangely.

However, he found it hard to believe that Sister Dazhuang could be in love with him.

Chen Yongxing vigorously stirred the jujubes in the basin to separate the jujube paste from the pits.

Lin Dazhuang picked up fruit pits from the side.

Soon, only the pulp of the jujubes remained in the pot.

Chen Yongxing then asked, "Sister-in-law, what should we do?"

Wan Qiqi glanced at it, then moved the wooden basin in front of her. "Yongxing, crush the perilla and licorice into powder, then give it to me."

"Okay." Chen Yongxing immediately went into the main room to prepare.

In ancient times, perilla was called "renran," which Wan Qiqi only learned recently.

Perilla leaves are a good thing; she had a lot dried in the sun, and now they'll come in handy.

"Yongliang, go to the table in my room and get the candy."

Chen Yongliang also went inside as instructed.

Wan Qiqi turned to look at Lin Dazhuang and said in a deep voice, "Your sister is emotionally unstable, you should stay with her for now!"

Lin Dazhuang was also a little worried about Lin Zhaodi, and he knew what new food Wan Qiqi was going to make. It wouldn't be good for him to just stand there and learn the recipe, so he nodded and led Lin Zhaodi into the main room with Wang Shi.

"Sister-in-law, where did you buy this candy? It's so white!" Chen Yongliang came out carrying white candy, his eyes wide with amazement.

Wan Qiqi looked at him intently, without answering.

Chen Yongliang placed the candy on the table and did not ask any further questions.

Wan Qiqi scooped two large bowls of jujube paste into the jujube paste, stirred it a few times with a wooden stick, and then, realizing it was a physically demanding task, stepped aside to let Chen Yongliang do it.

Chen Yongliang was already used to it, so he naturally went over to stir things up, but before he could even get his hands on it, Wan Qiqi took the stick away.

"Go wash your hands and stir with your hands."

"Okay." Chen Yongliang obediently did as instructed, drying his hands before mixing the date paste.

Once the jujube paste was mixed, Chen Yongxing had also ground the perilla and licorice powder.

The two brothers both looked at Wan Qiqi, wanting to see what she would do next.

The response I got was: "Eat first, then we'll do it."
