Chapter 164 Refusal
The night was silent, and the cold wind was biting.
Lin Zhaodi hugged her arms tightly, but she couldn't stop the wind from relentlessly eroding her remaining warmth through the gaps, just like her icy heart.
Just then, a large garment draped over her shoulders, shielding her from the cold wind and allowing warmth to swirl and return to her skin.
She looked back, her heart skipped a beat, and her hand gripped the neat clothes, leaving wrinkles.
Chen Yongliang glanced at her, looked up at the rising moon, and said seriously, "This is a new pair of clothes that my second sister-in-law sewed. They're a bit big, but they're warmer than the clothes you're wearing."
Upon hearing that it was new clothes, Lin Zhaodi immediately wanted to take them off and return them to the other party.
Before I could even try to drag myself away, someone grabbed my shoulder.
She stared at Chen Yongliang for a long time, her lips trembling and her heart pounding.
Chen Yongliang immediately released her and bowed his head, saying, "I'm sorry, I was being presumptuous!"
Lin Zhaodi felt a little disappointed, and tears welled up in her eyes, as if they were about to spill out at any moment.
"I'm sorry, Sister Zhaodi." Chen Yongliang apologized again, his attitude sincere, even carrying a deep sense of guilt.
Lin Zhaodi was very clever; she understood what the other person meant with just one sentence.
But she would rather not know than let the other person know.
This was impossible, but she was greedy and wanted to get closer.
Her lips moved twice, but she couldn't utter a sound.
Seeing that she didn't speak, Chen Yongliang continued, "Sister Zhaodi, you are Dazhuang's sister, which means you are my sister. We will help you with your affairs. We will definitely not let Lin Dazhuang sell you. We will definitely find you a good family so that you will no longer suffer."
Lin Zhaodi's lips trembled as she turned away, her face turned away so the other person wouldn't notice her tears.
After a long pause, she choked out, "Okay."
Chen Yongliang didn't dare to look up. He was most afraid of girls crying, but even without looking, he knew she was crying just by listening to her voice.
But he felt he had to make things clear with the other party.
He clenched his fists and mustered his courage to say, "Sister Zhaodi, please don't have feelings for me anymore. I... I just want to learn more from my sister-in-law and help with the family's burdens."
Lin Zhaodi was surprised that he would be so direct and point everything out, making her extremely embarrassed and wishing she could disappear into the ground.
Chen Yongliang, unaware of this, simply passed the message on and left stiffly.
The sound of crying could be heard outside.
Li Chongniang leaned against the bed and couldn't help but look out, but the window was far away and she couldn't see anything.
Although she lay in the house all day, she was very clear about what was going on at home.
Hearing the heartbreaking cries outside, she finally couldn't hold back and asked, "Sister-in-law, are you really not going to do anything about it?"
Wan Qiqi was playing with the two little ones with a thin hemp rope, not even looking up. "How do I manage them? Only she can figure this out herself."
No one can truly explain heartbreak.
If Ruolin Zhaodi hadn't been injured, she might have bought a bottle of wine at the mall and gotten the other person drunk.
There's a saying that goes, "A good drink can wash away a thousand sorrows!"
Unfortunately, the other party is not suitable for drinking alcohol.
Li Chongniang recalled Chen Yongliang's words and couldn't help but complain, "Yongliang is really something, speaking so directly, isn't he afraid of hurting the girl's feelings! How will he find a wife in the future if he keeps talking like this?"
Wan Qiqi paused, then looked up at Li Chongniang.
She really wanted to say that Chen Yongliang wasn't clueless; he just treated people he liked and people he didn't like differently.
Chen Yongliang was incredibly gentle with Tao Jing!
Although Chen Yongliang's words were somewhat hurtful, they were the most direct and effective approach.
Knowing you like someone but still dragging it out and enjoying the special treatment they receive, that's what makes a jerk!
After Lin Zhaodi had cried enough, she walked into the main room with her arms crossed, threw Chen Yongliang's clothes back at him, and went back to Li Chongniang's room without turning back.
The gatekeeper opened the door and saw that Wan Qiqi was holding a handrail. She smiled at Li Chongniang, as if to say: I told you, she'll be fine once she's finished crying!
Li Chongniang shrugged, gently stroking her belly twice. She was kicked by the baby inside her and frowned, saying, "You little brat, you dare kick your mother!"
Lin Zhaodi froze, blinking her red and swollen eyes, not understanding what had happened.
"Being able to kick means you're healthy! You should be more worried if you stopped moving." Wan Qiqi stood up, offered her seat to Lin Zhaodi, and stretched. "After resting for so long, I should get back to work!"
Lin Zhaodi and Li Chongniang exchanged a glance and pressed Wan Qiqi back onto the stool.
Li Chongniang said leisurely, "Let the men do the work tonight, we'll sit down and enjoy ourselves." Then, she said to Pingping, "Pingping, call your grandmother in."
So, the four women, with two children, sat in the house chatting and laughing, while the three men, after finishing making the perilla and jujube cake, went to prepare the dough and stir-fry the filling.
Wan Qiqi was still worried that they would mess things up, so she went out to give them some pointers before returning to her room with peace of mind.
The discovery of yams in Lianhua Village solved their food problem, and they no longer had to worry about going hungry when it snowed.
Everyone went up the mountain peacefully to dig for wild vegetables and yams. Some people continued to dig for bamboo shoots, hoping to get more money from Wan Qiqi. No matter how much yams there were, they couldn't compare to the aroma of grain.
The task of delivering goods and selling baked cakes was assigned to Chen Yongliang, while Chen Yongxing and Lin Dazhuang stayed at home peeling and selling bamboo shoots.
For several days in a row, Lianhua Village was peaceful and quiet, as if it had returned to its former tranquility.
If there was anything unusual about it, it was that Lin Youtian had never come looking for Lin Dazhuang and his sister, and he didn't even seem to have any suspicions about the extra yams in the house.
Then there's Wu Gousheng, who seems to have developed a strong interest in the Chen family. Every day he squats on the wall next to the Chen family's house, arguing and chatting with the people working in the yard.
