Chapter 174 You've Already Paid the Reward

Chapter 174 You've Already Paid the Reward

Bai Mansion Garden.

Bai Lingxuan's light purple long dress trailed on the ground, with lifelike butterflies and flowers embroidered on the hem. Her hair ornament, adorned with a butterfly hairpin, swayed with her head, as if it were alive.

She still wore only light makeup, holding a delicate gold and jade hand warmer in one hand and a book in the other, reading it carefully.

Two maids stood beside him, dressed in fine clothes, quietly watching their master with expressions of enjoyment.

At this moment, a servant hurried over and knelt down in front of Bai Lingxuan. "Miss, the person you arranged is already at Tianxiaju, and the carriage is ready for you."

Bai Lingxuan nodded, handed the book to the side, and someone immediately took it from her.

Another person stepped forward and reached out to help Bai Lingxuan, but she refused.

The person who took the book immediately went into the room next door, brought out a white fur coat and tied it on Bai Lingxuan, tidying her clothes, and then said with a smile, "Miss, it's cold, please go and come back soon. I have already informed Tianxiaju to change the elegant room into a heated room."

Huan'er pouted after Bai Lingxuan refused to help her up. Hearing Huixiang's words, she muttered, "Miss, why do you need to go see her? Just because her brother sent you a message?" She felt increasingly sorry for her mistress. "Miss, Master Wan refused to see you when he didn't want to, but now that he needs your help, he comes to you. Why bother..."

Before Bai Lingxuan could speak, Huixiang beside her coldly shouted, "Kneel down!"

Huan'er turned pale with fright and knelt down with a thud.

Although she had been with Bai Lingxuan for many years, her personal maid Huixiang was of a higher rank than her, so she had no choice but to obey.

“Miss, everything I’m saying is true… Have you forgotten how Master Wan treated you that day?”

Bai Lingxuan held the hand warmer without saying a word.

Upon hearing this, Huixiang's expression became even more stern, and she rebuked, "You only need to obey your master's orders. Listen less and do more. You've been in the manor for many years, have you forgotten even the most basic rules?"

Huan'er wanted to say something more, but when she met Huixiang's expression, she bit her lower lip and lowered her head. "Please forgive me, Miss. It was Huan'er who was wrong."

Bai Lingxuan turned her head to look at Huan'er and said, "Kneel in the hall for one hour and be fined three days' wages. You must not repeat this offense." Her voice was still gentle, like the tinkling sound of jade clashing, yet it gave people an undeniable sense of pressure.

She smiled faintly at Huixiang, "Come with me."

As soon as she finished speaking, she lifted her skirt and slowly walked out of the Bai residence.

The world resides in a warm pavilion.

Wan Qiqi leaned against the window, looking at the bustling street with a calm expression.

Wu Gousheng looked around, seemingly finding everything fascinating, before finally settling his gaze on the snacks and tea on the table.

Even after eating two bowls of noodles, he couldn't help but swallow hard when faced with the exquisite pastries, but he dared not touch them because they were too delicate.

Even now, he still can't quite believe what just happened.

The staff at Tianxiaju greeted them respectfully and led them upstairs, treating them no differently than wealthy people, as if they were some kind of distinguished guests.

This was the first time Wu Gousheng had ever received such treatment.

He licked his lips and asked, "Sis, who is the person you want to see? Is she that powerful?"

Wan Qiqi then withdrew her gaze, walked over and sat down next to Wu Gousheng, picked up a small piece of mung bean cake and ate it before slowly replying, "I should be pretty good!"

She remembered that although the prefect was a local official, he was in charge of managing the prefecture and county. The fact that the Bai family could throw out the prefect's son meant that they must be people that even the prefect couldn't afford to offend.

Wan Qiqi stroked the sachet in her hand and suddenly realized that she seemed to have hooked up with a rich man!

She chuckled to herself, realizing that no matter the circumstances, the power of officials always reigns supreme!

Wu Gousheng wanted to ask more questions, but then he heard footsteps and a woman's voice outside the door.

He was somewhat taken aback. Wan Qiqi had found a woman?

Wan Qiqi also heard the noise and immediately stood up. Looking at the mung bean cake she had taken a bite of, she was unsure whether to finish it, keep it, or put it back.

I have this feeling that nothing I do is good.

Just as she was hesitating, the door to the warm pavilion opened, and Bai Lingxuan and Huixiang appeared at the door.

The waiter bowed and ushered the two inside, carefully wiping the chairs clean with a rag before smiling and saying, "Miss Bai, please feel free to ask if you need anything. I'll be waiting outside."

Huixiang glanced at him, took out a silver ingot from her sleeve, and placed it in the waiter's hand. "We don't need anyone here. You can go and get back to work."

The shop assistant received the silver, his eyes crinkling with laughter, and immediately left, closing the door behind him.

Wu Gousheng stared at the waiter leaving, his mouth slightly open, his expression still showing a hint of astonishment.

Wan Qiqi couldn't help but sigh in her heart: Rich girls are indeed different!

Bai Lingxuan didn't care about any of that. She just glanced at the mung bean cake in the woman's hand and smiled faintly, "If Miss Wan likes Tianxiaju's pastries, I'll have someone make a few more for you to take back and let your children at home try them."

Wan Qiqi paused for a moment, smiled faintly, and said, "No need for Miss Bai to spend money." As she spoke, she imitated the way people bowed in movies and TV dramas and bowed to Bai Lingxuan.

Upon seeing this, Wu Gousheng immediately followed suit and bowed as well.

Bai Lingxuan did not laugh at Wu Gousheng for his mistake; instead, she nodded in response.

The two then sat down. Huixiang stood behind Bai Lingxuan to pour tea. Wu Gousheng was unsure whether he should sit down or not, so he simply followed Huixiang's example and stood behind Wan Qiqi.

Wan Qiqi went straight to the point, handing over the sachet, "I wonder what kind of reward Miss Bai would like to receive for her help?"

Bai Lingxuan stared at the sachet for a long time before reaching out to take it and gently stroking it, as if she could sense the image of another person holding the sachet.
