Chapter 188 Geng Laosan
The sky cleared, but Lianshan Mountain remained shrouded in mist.
Xia Shanhu took a few big gulps of wine from a jug, then spat the last mouthful onto his broadsword, using his drunkenness to brandish the sword in the wind.
He was like a swift tiger, galloping across the arena, his broadsword like his claws, slashing at the stones and shattering them into pieces.
"Excellent! Excellent swordsmanship!"
The applause rose and fell with the sound.
The tiger descending the mountain finished his stance, twirled his broadsword, and stood it upright on the stone ground. He grinned at the newcomer, "Second brother, what brings you here? Is there news from down the mountain?"
Geng Laosan smiled wickedly and stopped in front of Xia Shanhu. "Big brother is really smart!" He gestured for him to enter.
The two sat down on a stone bench, and immediately someone set out wine and meat and poured wine for them.
Geng Laosan waved to the man, picked up his bowl and laughed, "Brother, the government has indeed summoned everyone, intending to send grain over to exchange people."
Xia Shanhu raised his glass, clinked it with his, downed it in one gulp, his brow furrowed with worry. "If we really seize the grain and refuse to release the people, then the reputation of Lianshan will be ruined, and fewer people will come to join us in the future!"
"Big Brother!" Geng Laosan said with a hint of disapproval, "Right now, they want to surround and trap us. We are just fighting back! Let them know how powerful Lianshan is, and more people will come to join us in the future."
Tiger nodded, but his expression still betrayed unease.
"Brother, the grain on the mountain isn't enough for us to last a few more days. If we can't seize more grain, we'll really starve to death here this year!" Geng Laosan said, downing his wine in one gulp. "You've forgotten, the brothers who came into the mountains all swore an oath to share both good times and bad. We didn't want this situation; the government forced us into it!"
Even so, the tiger descending the mountain still felt uneasy.
Geng Laosan, however, did not seem to care much, appearing to be in complete control.
He looked up and gazed into the distance.
A boy of about seven or eight years old was sweeping fallen leaves from the ground with a broom.
The top of Lianshan Mountain is covered with trees, and in autumn and winter, the fallen leaves pile up and cannot be swept away.
The boy had just swept away a patch of ground when more fallen leaves began to fall. He swept again, showing no impatience whatsoever.
Upon seeing this, Geng Laosan smiled and said, "Brother, you still have this little mute?"
The tiger descending the mountain also looked over, a hint of gentleness appearing in its eyes. "How much can a little brat eat? Maybe he'll turn into a wolf someday!"
"Brother, I have another favor to ask." Geng Laosan withdrew his gaze and smiled, "Regarding the ambush, I may need to borrow those wolves you keep in your yard. If they are lost, I hope you will forgive me."
"Don't mention the forgiveness. We were already planning to slaughter them for food when we ran out of grain." The tiger descending the mountain laughed heartily and said, "If we can get grain in return, it's a blessing for them, as they've saved their cubs!"
"Haha, Big Brother is right, it's their good fortune."
Geng Laosan poured a full glass of wine for Xia Shanhu, and the two sat down to chat and talk, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Compared to Lianshan Village, Yunhe County was lifeless, and everyone's faces looked as if someone had died in their home.
Wan Ziyan and Tao Ran took a few days off and discussed countermeasures with the people in the county government. He finally met Chen Yongnian.
During this period, Chen Yongnian was either practicing martial arts or learning from others. In particular, Instructor Xue gave him a difficult task: to read and write.
He felt that reading and writing were more difficult than learning martial arts, but he had no choice but to learn them and grit his teeth and persevere.
Therefore, he knew that Wan Ziyan had come to the county.
"Second Brother, I'm sorry, I've been too busy these days and didn't even know you were here, Eldest Brother!" Chen Yongnian scratched his head, his face full of apology, showing no sign that he could defeat the bandits.
Wan Ziyan looked up and stared at Chen Yongnian for a long time before letting out a soft sigh. "Yongnian, there's something I need to tell you, but I hope you'll remain calm when we carry out the mission three days from now."
Although Chen Yongnian did not understand what the other party wanted to say, he could see the importance of it and nodded, saying, "Okay, Second Brother, go ahead."
Wan Ziyan held the teacup and pondered for a moment before speaking: "When Qiqi returned from Yuzhou, she was kidnapped by the tiger descending the mountain. In three days, you will need to rescue not only the young lady and young master of the wealthy family, but also your wife."
Chen Yongnian's smile froze for a moment, but he kept smiling: "How could that be? My wife runs a business at home..." His voice grew softer and softer, and his smile gradually disappeared.
He knew better than anyone that Wan Ziyan wouldn't joke about Wan Qiqi's matter, but he refused to believe it.
How did they end up being captured by bandits?
After Wan Ziyan finished speaking, he also fell silent.
He didn't know how to face it, and he was also afraid that the people his sister cared about would look down on her because of this.
A woman's reputation is of utmost importance; even if she is married, it will still be affected.
After falling silent at the same time, they both looked up at the same time.
"Second brother, don't worry, I will definitely bring my wife back safely and will never let her fall into trouble again."
Chen Yongnian realized that simply staying in the village wouldn't allow him to accomplish anything or protect his loved ones.
Only when he becomes strong can he protect his family!
The word "from now on" shows Chen Yongnian's attitude towards Wan Qi, which puts Wan Ziyan at ease.
At first, he felt that Chen Yongnian was not good enough for his sister, but now he felt that Chen Yongnian was not so bad after all, at least he was sincere to his sister.
Meanwhile, what everyone feared actually happened!
I don't know which town it started from, but people started selling honey pomelo syrup!
Although the taste of what they make is not as good as Chen's, the price is lower.
