Chapter 19 Eating Crabs
"Sister-in-law, I remember you're very good at growing vegetables, right?" Wan Qiqi's words drew everyone's attention to Li Chongniang.
Li Chongniang was taken aback and hesitated for a moment.
She couldn't figure out what Wan Qiqi was thinking now, feeling that the other person had become much more complicated and was no longer the straightforward person she used to be.
Chen Yongxing, however, looked very proud. He put his hand on Li Chongniang's shoulder and praised, "My wife is quite skilled at growing vegetables!"
Li Chongniang glanced at him, unsure of what to say for a moment. She always suspected that Wan Qiqi had ill intentions.
"After buying those seeds, I'd like to ask my younger brother and sister-in-law for help in teaching me how to plant them properly." Wan Qiqi had grown vegetables before, but that didn't mean she could successfully grow them at this time and place.
Li Chongniang looked at her suspiciously, finding it hard to believe that these words came from Wan Qiqi's mouth.
Wan Qiqi noticed every change in her expression.
Soon, a barely perceptible smile curved her lips as she continued, "Second brother, your wife is carrying the Chen family's child. You need to share the burden more. You also need to help with all the household affairs. Your wife needs to take good care of herself."
Although she had never given birth herself, she had at least seen how things work, even if she hadn't eaten pork. In modern times, her best friend had given her a lot of advice about pregnancy precautions.
Li Chongniang couldn't hide her astonishment. She had never imagined that her sister-in-law would lecture her husband and tell her to take good care of him.
Remembering how she had stolen the grain that morning and then lost it, she felt a pang of self-reproach and guilt. Ultimately, it was her own pettiness that had led her to misunderstand her sister-in-law!
But who would believe such a Wan Qiqi? And who would dare to believe her?
Judging from what she took out, you could tell how many valuable things the other person had hidden away over the years, and now she was actually bringing them out.
Faced with the exchange of grain and the theft of grain, Wan Qiqi did not utter a single word of blame, but simply comforted them, saying: "It's good that everyone is alright!"
They might not believe such a change, but Li Chongniang did!
She previously claimed that her family's poverty made her lack the confidence to compete with Wan Qiqi. Now that Wan Qiqi has lost the support of her family, things will naturally change.
While chatting, Wan Qiqi suddenly remembered the crabs in the pot and immediately ran outside.
A moment later, everyone watched as Wan Qiqi carried a basin of "eight-legged insects" inside, with a small bowl inside, the contents of which were unknown.
The aroma wafted out, and everyone's stomachs rumbled as they couldn't help but swallow.
It smells so good! It makes you want to take a bite.
The steamed crab turned red, which looked very appealing.
Wan Qiqi picked up one and placed it on the table. It was so hot that she scratched her earlobe to try and cool it down, but she couldn't resist her craving and started peeling the crab.
Everyone watched as Wan Qiqi quickly peeled open the crab, took out the dark substance, dipped it in the food in her bowl, and ate it with great relish.
The more they looked at it, the more their mouths watered. Chen Yongliang couldn't resist grabbing one, but he couldn't peel it open for a long time.
Wan Qiqi glanced at it, put down the crab in her hand, and taught him little by little how to peel it, which parts were edible and which parts were not.
Chen Yongliang peeled the crab as she instructed, dipped some of the food in the bowl into his mouth, and then froze on the spot.
This thing looks ugly and doesn't have much meat, but it tastes so delicious!
"You guys should try it, it's delicious!" Chen Yongliang said, finishing half of the crab and not even letting go of the small crab legs.
Chen Yongnian tried to peel it open, but forgot which parts were inedible, so he could only stare at Wan Qiqi and watch her movements.
Wan Qiqi peeled a crab for Wang Shi, Pingping, and An'an, but not for Li Chongniang. She even took away the crab that Chen Yongxing had peeled for Li Chongniang.
Li Chongniang sat there, her face turning pale and then red, wanting to question Wan Qiqi about her intentions, but not daring to.
Wan Qiqi took out a few copper coins and placed them on the table, then asked, "Mother, do you know anyone who has eggs?"
"I know, but what are you going to do?" Wang asked, somewhat puzzled.
“My daughter is pregnant, and I want to buy some eggs to nourish her.” Wan Qiqi said, glancing at the crab shells on the table, and continued, “I only wanted to try it because I had seen someone eat ‘eight-legged worms’ before. I heard that person say that if a pregnant woman eats eight-legged worms, she will lose her baby. My daughter can’t eat them, so I have to find something else to nourish her body.”
