Chapter 213 The Disappointed Wu Gousheng
Wang's face darkened, and she glared at Wan Qiqi.
"Qiqi, what are you saying?"
She turned her face away, not wanting to look at Wan Qiqi.
"I'm almost forty! My son is all grown up and has his own family, and I'm practically on my deathbed. Why would I remarry? Don't talk nonsense!"
Wan Qiqi didn't expect the Wang family to react so strongly.
In modern times, there are plenty of people in their thirties who are still unmarried, and many divorced and remarried in their thirties or forties. It's not unusual!
But it was different in ancient times.
A husband may remarry after his wife's death.
After her husband dies, a wife is almost always required to erect a memorial archway to commemorate her chastity and remain faithful for five or ten years until her children grow up before she can remarry.
By then, they are usually old and past their prime, so how could they possibly remarry?
Wan Qiqi stared at Wang Shi.
Although she looks older than her age, she can regain some of that youthful appearance with proper care.
Moreover, she is kind-hearted, hardworking, and will surely meet someone who appreciates her good qualities!
She believed that Wang was no less capable than Zhang Ershen.
If Aunt Zhang could find a second spring, so can Wang!
However, these are all just thoughts.
As long as Wang is happy, anything goes.
Just like myself back then, I was in my thirties and still single, but I was doing just fine.
Wan Qiqi walked to Wang Shi's side, hugged her arm, and said in a coquettish tone, "Oh dear, I was just talking nonsense! Mother, don't be angry, getting angry will cause wrinkles."
The three of them had never seen Wan Qiqi so soft before, and their eyes almost popped out of their sockets!
Is this really Wan Qiqi?
Having experienced life and death, Wan Qiqi understands what she cares about most and no longer wants to pretend in front of them, showing her truest self.
In modern times, she is a strong woman in her career, but when she is with her best friend, she is also a soft and adorable girl who is easy to bully.
Having walked on the edge of death, she wanted to cherish the people around her even more.
Wan Qiqi pulled the three of them aside and told them about her business plans for the future, and then began to arrange the things she needed to do next.
After making the arrangements, she went to the vegetable garden to take a look at the lush, fresh vegetables, and turned back to Wang Shi, saying, "Mother, I want to eat radishes and cabbage!"
"Okay, whatever you say!" Wang was so caught up in the joy of her family's return that she didn't realize Wan Qiqi was talking about radishes, not turnips.
After Chen Yongnian came out of the main room, he pulled Wan Qiqi aside and asked in a low voice, "Wife, why does that bird look like an eagle to me?"
Wan Qiqi was surprised that someone recognized its value, and felt a little amused. She said, "It's an eagle!"
Chen Yongnian's expression darkened. "Eagles are birds of prey; it's not safe to keep them at home. What if they get injured..."
"My husband!"
"ah?"
Chen Yongnian was stunned by Wan Qiqi's call, and his expression was somewhat puzzled.
Are tigers raised to be as fierce as wolves?
Chen Yongnian nodded, "Of course."
"Did any of the tigers that came down from the mountain get hurt when the wolves were attacking?"
Chen Yongnian recalled.
Even when the wolves were attacking wildly that day, the tiger came down the mountain and immediately obeyed without hesitation at the sound of its whistle.
But that's because the tiger coming down the mountain is the master of the wolf pack!
He suddenly paused, a hint of disbelief in his eyes. "Wife, you mean..."
Although Wan Qiqi didn't want to admit it, she still nodded, "That eagle seems to recognize An'an!"
She observed for a while before realizing that the peregrine falcon had only recognized one master, namely the younger An'an.
There is an ancient method of taming hawks, which involves training hawks to become one's own close companions.
But Wan Qiqi still couldn't understand how An'an managed to make the eagle obedient and recognize her as its master.
Chen Yongnian's expression showed even greater surprise.
He thought it should be "plain" rather than "peaceful".
Wan Qiqi smiled and shook her head, naturally taking Chen Yongnian's arm. "Don't worry, they'll protect themselves. After the New Year, let's send An'an to school to learn to read and write! Even if she doesn't pass the imperial examinations, she can't be like us, barely literate, can she?"
Chen Yongnian nodded, "I'll follow my wife's arrangements." He liked things the way they were.
His wife would take the initiative to hold his hand and would not refuse to be with him.
Now, he truly feels that his partner sees him as her husband, rather than as someone she was forced to choose.
Suddenly, Chen Yongnian realized that something was amiss with his wife's words and corrected her, "My wife is mistaken. My wife can read. I have seen your handwriting before, and it is very beautiful!"
In the secluded courtyard of the Wan family, he saw a piece of paper with everyone's names written on it.
Wan Qiqi paused for a moment, then suddenly remembered that once again in the Wan family's side courtyard, she was so bored that she picked up Wan Ziyan's brush and ink and practiced her calligraphy.
Could he be referring to that particular copy?
She felt ashamed just thinking about it, because her writing was so ugly that even she couldn't stand it!
"Why do I feel like my brother and sister-in-law's relationship has improved since they went on that trip?"
Chen Yongxing was massaging Li Chongniang's legs, but his eyes were practically glued to the wall!
Li Chongniang's lips curved into a smile. "Isn't this great? Did you want them to fight?"
"No way! I think it's great!"
After glancing at it twice, Chen Yongxing lowered his head and began to massage Li Chongniang's legs earnestly.
If an outsider were to witness this scene, they would surely say that Li Chongniang was being too pretentious, that she was only pregnant and yet still needed her husband to massage her legs.
In ancient times, when men were superior to women, it was only women who massaged the shoulders of men; there was no reason for men to do these things for women.
However, in the Chen family, both Chen Yongnian and Chen Yongxing regarded their wives as the most important person.
Compared to the tranquility of the Chen family, the village east of Wu Gousheng was in a state of turmoil.
"You little brat, you finally know how to come back? You've grown wings and dare to run around with other people, abandoning your home altogether, haven't you?"
