Chapter 214 Nightmare

Chapter 214 Nightmare

The night was still, and Lotus Village was fast asleep.

The lights in the Chen family's house were turned off early, and the even breathing sounds came from inside, blending perfectly with the night.

In the middle of the night, a mumbling sound suddenly came from inside the house.

"No...no..."

"Fire...fire..."

"Stop...don't kill them..."

"Don't go...don't go..."

Chen Yongnian sat up abruptly, groped in the dark to light the oil lamp with a tinderbox, and sat back down by the bed.

Despite the cold weather, Wan Qiqi's forehead was covered in a layer of cold sweat, her brows were furrowed, and she kept muttering to herself.

She had done the same thing the night before in the tent, repeating these words over and over.

Chen Yongnian knew that Wan Qiqi appeared to be fine, but she was still traumatized by the raid on the mountain stronghold.

The burning fire made Wan Qiqi feel as if she were back in the night Shui Town was burned down, with blood staining the ground red and crawling up from her feet as if it were alive.

The cold blood spread from his calves until it buried his face.

The feeling of suffocation returned, leaving her helpless.

No, I can't die!

Wan Qiqi struggled desperately, trying to break free of her restraints, but she couldn't open her eyes no matter what she did.

Just when she thought she was really going to die, the restraints suddenly disappeared, and she knelt helplessly on the ground.

The fire continued to burn, turning the entire sky red.

Suddenly, a person emerged from the fire.

The man was surrounded by fire, obscuring his face, but Wan Qiqi knew perfectly well that he was a bandit from Lianshan.

One, two, three...

More and more people emerged from the fire, and they all headed towards Wan Qiqi without prior arrangement.

"Wan Qiqi, prepare to die!"

"Wan Qiqi, give me back my life!"

"Wan Qiqi, I'm going to kill you!"

"..."

The sounds, like the wailing of ghosts and howling of wolves, gradually entered Wan Qiqi's ears, tearing her heart to shreds.

She seemed to be frozen in place, unable to move, and could only watch as the person approached step by step.

"I didn't mean it, I didn't mean it..." Her eyes were full of tears, unwilling to accept it.

As the fireman drew closer, she could feel the heat gradually rising onto her body, as if it were melting her.

"No...no..."

She doesn't want to die, she can't die!

Just as the fireman was a few steps away from her, she regained her mobility and turned to run away.

The fireman moved further and further away, and the temperature dropped lower and lower.

She looked up and saw that the town was no longer burning; only desolation remained after the fire.

Snowflakes gradually began to fall from the sky; they were cold to the touch and would not melt.

In a short while, everything around was covered by heavy snow, appearing lifeless and desolate.

Wan Qiqi stood in the heavy snow, looking around and hesitant. She seemed to be looking for something, but she didn't know what to look for.

She wandered in the wind and snow.

The wind howled and roared.

The sound of wind seemed to be mixed with the howling of wolves.

"Awoo~"

The howling of wolves surrounded Wan Qiqi's ears, but she couldn't find the wolves anywhere.

She fled in all directions, only to find the snow in front of her stained red with blood.

From a small patch to a large patch, until the pitch-black wolves appeared.

The white, sharp teeth contrasted sharply with the jet-black fur, and there were traces of blood and bits of flesh on the tips of the teeth.

Wan Qiqi was so frightened that her legs went weak, and she fell to the ground with a thud, backing away repeatedly.

She pushed herself to the edge of the cliff, but the wolf pack was still closing in.

No matter which path you choose, it's a dead end.

Just then, the wolves that had surrounded them suddenly retreated.

The snow is melting, but we can't see the melted snow.

As the ice and snow melt, lush green grass is revealed.

A ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and shone on Wan Qiqi.

At that moment, all discomfort vanished, leaving only warmth.

Seeing that Wan Qiqi's brows had finally relaxed, Chen Yongnian's lips curved into a faint smile.

I turned off the lights and drifted into a light sleep.

The crowing of roosters awakens Lotus Village.

Wang was always the first one up in the family, getting up and busy as soon as it was barely light.

She had long been accustomed to this kind of life, and if one day she were asked to do nothing, it would be torture.

Immediately afterwards, Chen Yongliang and Chen Yongxing also got up, picked up their bamboo baskets and carried their machetes up the mountain.

They continued living their lives as before, as if nothing had changed.

Chen Yongnian lay on the bed, staring at Wan Qiqi with his eyes open.

When Wang got up, he had already woken up, but dared not move.

Unbeknownst to her, Wan Qiqi had fallen asleep with her head on his hand. Any movement from him would immediately wake her from her deep sleep.

Wan Qiqi rolled over and bumped into Chen Yongnian's arms. She mumbled something under her breath, and then immediately fell asleep again.

Chen Yongnian was stuck in a rut, unable to get up or sleep, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

But seeing the person sleeping peacefully in his arms, he felt at ease.

"Daddy, Mommy's become a little lazybones, she's still sleeping!"

Pingping poked her little head out and stared at the two people standing close together.

"Shh!" Chen Yongnian gestured for him to keep his voice down, "Let your mother sleep a little longer!"

Pingping nodded seriously.

An'an got up and dressed herself, but couldn't figure out how to put on her shoes.

She looked up in distress. "Brother, help me!"

"Shh!" Chen Yongnian and Pingping simultaneously gestured for her to keep her voice down.

An An immediately covered her mouth, indicating that she would not make a sound!

Pingping walked to An'an's side, squatted down and looked at the two shoes. They seemed to be about the same, so she started to put the shoes on her younger sister.

After getting dressed, the two tiptoed to open the door.

The door made a sound as it opened, and the two of them made a "shh" gesture to each other before quietly leaving the room.
