Chapter 402 Punishment Copying
The sound of reading aloud filled the air, one after another.
The trees in the courtyard of Hefeng Academy seem to be infected by youthful vitality, sprouting new buds and creating a lush green scene.
Chen Yongliang sat under the eaves, staring blankly at his hand.
The reprimands from Wan Qiqi and Chen Yongnian the day before, as well as the conversation between Wu Gousheng and him, still echoed in his mind.
But when he thought he had done nothing wrong, almost everyone was pointing fingers at him.
Wu Gousheng told him to think about it; if someone else was at fault, then everyone should stand by his side.
But now, everyone is saying he has problems, so shouldn't he reflect on what exactly his problems are?
Chen Yongliang was surprised that Wu Gousheng, who was illiterate, seemed to know a lot of principles.
In many instances, he could sense that Wu Gousheng's knowledge was broader and his perspective more expansive than his own.
Perhaps that's why the eldest sister-in-law kept Wu Gousheng by her side.
My older brother is different this time when he came back!
He appeared more composed and calm, and his aura became even colder, which made him feel somewhat afraid.
But what shocked him most were the things his older brother said, as if he had experienced a great deal.
It made him feel that he and his older brother had been separated for not just half a month, but half a year or a year.
Chen Yongnian felt that everyone else was moving forward and changing, while he was still stuck in the same place.
He acted impulsively yesterday, but he just couldn't stand that such scumbags went into the restaurant.
He felt that every inch of the land Tang Qiwen touched had become dirty!
"Cough cough." A cough interrupted Chen Yongliang's thoughts.
He looked up and saw Tao Ran.
“Being distracted while listening in is punishable,” Tao Ran said calmly.
"I'm...I'm sorry, Headmaster Tao, I won't do it again!" Chen Yongliang quickly apologized.
Tao Ran ignored him and said, "Come with me."
Chen Yongliang said "Oh," packed his things, and followed, walking all the way to Tao Ran's study.
Tao Ran picked up the ruler and gestured for Chen Yongliang to open his hand.
"Smack! Smack! Smack!" Three times, the ruler struck Chen Yongliang's palm.
He turned his face away, feeling the pain in his palm.
After Tao Ran finished hitting the student, he put the ruler aside and said, "Studying is not something that can be accomplished in a day. If you are determined, you must not let other things interfere with your studies. You should copy the articles you have learned ten times here, and go to school when you are calm."
"Uh... okay." Chen Yongliang touched his hot palms, spread his things out on the desk, and began to write carefully.
Tao Ran glanced at it, then turned and left the study.
Copying articles can cultivate one's character.
Chen Yongliang didn't believe it before, but now he does!
As he copied it over and over again, his heart began to calm down.
"Knock knock knock~" The knocking sounded, and Chen Yongliang looked up, about to open the door, when the door suddenly opened by itself.
"Um... what are you doing in my brother's study?" Tao Jing blinked, looked around, and quickly closed the study door.
She walked to the desk with the booklet in her hand, tilted her head to look at it, and laughed, "You were punished by my brother to copy an article? Hahaha... I didn't know you could be punished like that, how amusing."
Chen Yongliang watched as Tao Jing skillfully rummaged through the items, eventually pulling out a bag of candied fruit from somewhere and placing it on the table.
She then moved a chair over before placing the booklet on the table, saying, "You continue, I'll read mine."
Chen Yongliang was a little confused by her actions and for a moment forgot to answer Tao Jing's question. He only came to his senses after she sat down.
He glanced at the words on the booklet and asked, "What kind of book is this? Can I borrow it and take a look?"
It seemed to have some kind of biography written on it, but I couldn't see it very clearly. However, there were small illustrations on the cover, which were different from any other books I had ever seen before.
Tao Jing immediately hid the book and said, "No, you can't understand it. Be a good boy and copy it. I won't let my brother come. If you're too slow, you'll get hit with the ruler again!"
Chen Yongliang blinked, withdrew his hand from mid-air, and nodded, saying, "Alright!"
He didn't suspect anything was wrong with the booklet until Tao Jing was eating candied fruit and laughing out loud while holding the booklet, at which point he realized something was amiss.
"What books are you reading?" he asked again.
When Tao Jing saw him approaching, she immediately closed the door, glanced at the doorway, and whispered, "You won't understand! It's a storybook."
Chen Yongliang had heard of storytelling, but had never actually read one, and was somewhat interested in doing so.
Tao Jing glanced at him and said, "You want to see?"
Chen Yongliang nodded hurriedly.
"I'll lend you those books once you've finished reading them all," Tao Jing said, flipping through the pages and taking out a piece of candied fruit. "You can't read, so you won't understand them."
Chen Yongliang leaned over to take a look, but he really couldn't understand it, so he chose to give up and continue copying the book.
Tao Jing watched for a while but lost interest. She stared at Chen Yongliang copying and said, "Your handwriting is much better than before."
"Thank you." Chen Yongliang blushed as the girl praised him.
After finishing the last piece of candied fruit, Tao Jing said, "I heard that you stopped Tang Qiwen at the door yesterday?"
Chen Yongliang thought Tao Jing was going to talk about him too, so he turned his face away.
"If it were me, I would definitely stop him too. How can someone like that be worthy of entering Sister Wan's restaurant? He's just dirtying the restaurant floor!" Tao Jing said indignantly.
Hearing that someone finally shared his opinion, Chen Yongliang quickly nodded, "Yes, that's exactly what I think!"
“You did the right thing! I would have done the same.” Tao Jing said, looking at Chen Yongliang, and continued, “But I had my brother to back me up, so Tang Qiwen wouldn’t dare to lay a hand on the Tao family, but you might be in trouble…”
Her words made Chen Yongliang suddenly realize that, apart from his connections here and there, he seemed to be nothing at all.
