Chapter 480 Tao Ran's Opposition
Just as Chen Yongnian predicted.
He finally left, and Wan Qiqi took some snacks to Hefeng Academy in the afternoon.
It was right at the time when school was letting out, and there was a constant flow of people coming and going.
The little ones quickly found their parents and ran off to them.
Boss Yang led Yang Fan past Wan Qiqi, glanced at An An with a hint of displeasure on his face, and walked away without even saying hello.
An'an stared at the departing figures of the father and son, muttering under her breath, "Bad people!"
Wan Qiqi squatted down, gently pinched An'an's nose, and said, "Although he caused your Uncle Tao to get hurt, he's not necessarily a bad person, is he?"
An'an looked indignant and said, "He's a bad guy! The people with him smashed all of that older sister's things, making her cry for a long time."
Wan Qiqi understood!
An'an was present at the time and witnessed what happened, which is why she had a problem with Boss Yang.
Judging from my interactions with Mr. Yang during the restaurant's opening, he was actually quite kind, but he held extremely strong patriarchal views and looked down on women doing business.
When she first met Mr. Yang, he hardly smiled at her and even seemed somewhat hostile.
It wasn't until later, when she unintentionally helped solve a business problem, that Mr. Yang's attitude towards her softened somewhat.
It would be perfectly normal for someone like that to oppose women entering academies.
Wan Qiqi grinned at An'an and said, "It's okay, trust your mother. No one will treat An'an like this in the future, and An'an can sit in the school to study and learn to read."
Those who heard Wan Qiqi's words couldn't help but mock her.
"Madam, don't speak such grand words. How can a woman be qualified to enter a school?"
"It's difficult enough for boys to study, let alone for girls to do so, it's simply a pipe dream!"
Wan Qiqi did not argue with these people.
She knew that making this happen would be the best way to refute these comments.
"Gousheng, you take them back first, I'll be back later." Wan Qiqi said, then stood up, her eyes fixed on the four large characters "Hefeng Academy".
Before leaving, Chen Yongnian told Wu Gousheng about Wan Qiqi's plan to open a girls' school, which made him jump for joy.
Seeing that Wan Qiqi was reluctant to leave the academy, he guessed that it was because of this matter, and quickly said, "Sister Qi, I'll wait for you with them, we'll go back anyway..."
Before he could finish speaking, Wan Qiqi glared at him, and he dared not say another word.
Wan Qiqi could figure it out with a snap of her toes: Chen Yongnian must have been afraid she would do something dangerous, so he had Wu Gousheng keep an eye on her.
She tilted her head and said, "I'll be fine. I'll just take some snacks to Brother Tao and chat with him for a bit. If you don't believe me, send the child back and come back to me."
If the child is sent back, what will happen to the child?
Wu Gousheng knew that his Sister Qi was just making excuses for him, but he had no choice but to reply, "Okay, come back soon!"
"Um."
While Wan Qiqi and Wu Gousheng were talking, Tao Ran had already brought Tao Xiujin and Tao Jing out.
The two looked at each other, seemingly understanding that the other had something to say. They dismissed the people around them and then sat down in the backyard of the academy.
Wan Qiqi took out the pastries from the food box and brought out two small bottles of osmanthus wine, placing them on the table.
Tao Ran didn't eat any snacks, but poured himself a small cup of wine, took a sip, and asked, "What do you want with me?"
Wan Qiqi didn't beat around the bush and said directly, "I want to open a girls' school. I wonder what Brother Tao's opinion is?"
Tao Ran paused in putting down his wine glass.
The wine glass knocked against the stone table, chipping off a small piece of porcelain.
Tao Ran's eyes trembled, and she looked at Wan Qiqi with disbelief in her eyes. Her hand on the table gradually clenched into a fist.
His body was visibly trembling, and his eyes were red.
After searching for so long, he finally met a like-minded person.
He always believed that the problem lay with his own thinking.
Everyone opposed women reading, let alone sending them to school, until finally one person shared his thoughts.
Wan Qiqi was driven by An An, but more so by her desire to avoid being defeated by feudalism.
She wanted to change the fate of women, the fate that belonged to her.
She didn't know if Tao Ran would support her, but at least he wouldn't oppose her, since Tao Ran would allow the woman to listen in.
She needed support, to know that in this feudal society, there were people who shared her views.
After a long while, Wan Qiqi still didn't receive an answer, but instead heard Tao Ran talking about other things.
“The day before yesterday, as usual, I went to deliver handwritten books to the bookstore. On my way back, I met a girl. She was holding my handwritten book, but she was worried because she had no one to teach her. When she saw me passing by, she chased after me and asked me how to read it…”
Tao Ran's eyes gleamed, a smile playing on his lips, as he downed a glass of wine.
Wan Qiqi could roughly imagine the scene and thought the girl was very clever, actually managing to catch the academy's teacher.
"After answering her questions a couple of times, I realized that her talent was no less than that of the students, so I invited her to audit a class at the academy. How much she learns depends entirely on her ability." Tao Ran said this with satisfaction in his eyes.
Even if Tao Ran didn't say how well the girl was learning, Wan Qiqi could tell from his expression that the girl was learning very well.
Then, the light in Tao Ran's eyes vanished in an instant.
"I originally intended for her to stay and audit classes at the academy, but I didn't expect to run into some of the students' elders. They overheard everything I said, and an argument ensued, during which they even attacked the child. She was one of the students I brought with me, and I couldn't let her get hurt because of me. In the midst of the argument with the students' elders, she was accidentally injured..."
Tao Ran gave a bitter smile.
He drank several glasses of wine before he seemed to calm himself down and be able to speak normally.
