Chapter 513 Special Care in Prison
Wan Qiqi's first time in prison.
It wasn't too different from what she had imagined: dark, damp, surrounded by walls on three sides, with only the side facing the corridor being clearly visible.
Along the way, we passed several prison cells, and the people inside were no longer recognizable.
Some people looked at the three women passing by in the corridor and couldn't help but reach out to grab them. Others squeezed into the narrow gaps and inhaled deeply, as if they could smell some fragrance.
Tao Jing was so frightened that she hid behind Zhong Le, looking somewhat flustered.
From childhood to adulthood, she had never been to such a dirty place, nor had she had much contact with such dirty people.
Wan Qiqi appeared relatively calm, but a hint of disgust was also evident in her eyes.
A short while later, the constables leading the three stopped and opened a cell on the right.
The young man at the head of the group bowed to Wan Qiqi and said, "Sister-in-law, this is a prison cell, and we can't make it too nice for you. Please make do with it for the night, and you may be able to leave when the results come out tomorrow!"
Wan Qiqi looked up at the person she was talking to, a faint smile playing on her lips, and said, "It's okay, I understand."
She walked up to the young man, secretly took out a piece of silver, and said, "Take this money and buy some wine."
The young man refused, saying, "This is unacceptable! You're in a difficult situation right now, how can I accept your money? I heard from Yongnian that you plan to open a restaurant in the county someday. If possible, you can treat me to a drink then!"
Wan Qiqi did not continue to stuff silver into her pocket.
With just a few words, she knew that this person had a good relationship with Chen Yongnian, that they could talk to each other, and that they could even be considered close friends.
I glanced at their cell again. Although it was simple, at least it had a bed and a table. Compared to the cells I passed by, theirs felt like the best cell in the world.
She smiled and said, "Okay, when that time comes, bring your brothers along, and I'll treat you."
"Sister-in-law, don't worry too much about Yongnian's suspension. He'll be fine in a couple of days! He's serious and responsible, and even the county magistrate thinks highly of him..."
The man comforted Wan Qiqi for a while, then stopped when he saw other yamen runners approaching in the distance.
Wan Qiqi nodded and smiled faintly, asking before he left, "What's your name?"
"Qi Yang".
Qi Yang answered, invited Wan Qiqi into the cell, locked it, and left with his men.
Tao Jing couldn't help but lean closer and say, "Sister Qi, don't trust him. Government officials are wicked. Who knows what bad intentions they might have if you get close to them!"
Zhong Le gestured for Tao Jing to be quiet and said, "Be careful what you say when you're on someone else's turf, or you might bring trouble upon yourself."
"Oh." Tao Jing lowered her head, looking slightly disappointed.
Wan Qiqi found a bed and sat down, saying, "What do you all think about what happened today?"
"It's obvious that the person who made the report is problematic. They're making baseless accusations, and the county magistrate isn't doing anything about it. They're clearly trying to make things difficult for us!" Tao Jing said in a low voice, her face full of indignation.
Zhong Le said, "Women who can read and write are not accepted by the world, so today's events are somewhat expected. However, the person who reported this today is indeed problematic."
“He’s Xiaomeng’s biological father. I’ve met him; he’s a timid man.” Wan Qiqi looked at the two of them with a serious expression and said, “The matter at the school is a good thing for his daughter. Why do you think he would report it?”
"Coerced by someone?" Zhong Le asked suspiciously.
"It can't be ruled out, but there must be something forcing him to do this, even to the point of seemingly risking his own life." Wan Qiqi couldn't help but think of Tang Qiwen. If he was behind it all, then things would be troublesome!
But one thing is also obvious.
Neither Fang Ziming nor Xie Xing intends to kill her; they only want to warn her.
There must be a reason related to Wan Ziyan.
They were still wary, worried that if they were harmed, Wan Ziyan might not let them off the hook, and whether he would have the ability to handle the matter.
Just as Zhong Le was about to speak, footsteps approached.
The man named Qi Yang returned, glanced at the people in the cell, pointed at Tao Jing, and said, "You, come out with me."
"I'm not going out." Tao Jing took two steps back inside, showing extreme distrust of the people outside.
Wan Qiqi tilted her head, as if asking, "Tell me the specifics, how do you convince that young girl?"
Qi Yang sensed that the people inside didn't trust him, so he could only say, "Miss Tao, your father is here to take you home. Please come with me."
"Can Sister Qi and Mr. Zhong go together?" Tao Jing asked.
"No way!" Qi Yang said decisively.
Wan Qiqi and Zhong Le both realized what Tao Jing was about to say and covered her mouth.
Wan Qiqi said in a low voice, "If you don't go out, who will help us investigate the report? Do you think the government will send someone to investigate?"
Tao Jing was taken aback.
That's what she said, but she was worried about Wan Qiqi and Zhong Le staying here and wanted to take them with her.
“Go back with your father! I’ll take care of Manager Wan here; she’ll be fine,” Zhong Le advised.
Finally, after repeated persuasion from the two, Tao Jing finally went out with Qi Yang.
Seeing her leave, Zhong Le turned her head and asked, "Do you think she can investigate?"
“No, don’t even think about it. She’ll be locked up as soon as she gets back. But I believe that even if she doesn’t send any messages, someone will still be investigating.” Wan Qiqi smiled, a hint of amusement in her eyes.
Zhong Le was somewhat surprised by this.
She felt that the girl in front of her, who was in her early twenties, was too calm, making her feel as if this woman had never lived a lifetime.
When Tao Ran told her about the girls' school, she was actually quite surprised and curious about who would have such an idea.
