Chapter 516 Release from Prison
When Tao Ran sought to find out the truth, Chen Yongnian accompanied him.
However, Chen Yongnian himself did not drink a drop of alcohol, but made Chen Yongliang and Wu Gousheng drink several cups with him until they got him drunk.
Chen Yongnian knew that Tao Ran's return would also upset Luo Lan, so he cleaned up Chen Yongliang's room and let him stay there.
Afterwards, he sent Chen Yongliang to the Tao residence to deliver a message and to check on Tao Jing's situation.
Chen Yongnian's mind was still filled with that family in the alley.
Before he knew it, he went out again and stood at the intersection leading to the alley.
He suddenly wondered what his wife was thinking when she stared blankly at the alley after he returned that time, what she was struggling with, and what she was feeling.
Just then, footsteps echoed through the dark alley.
"Uncle, were you at my door today?"
The little girl's voice traveled through the alley and reached Chen Yongnian's ears.
He quickly recognized the speaker by the voice; it was Xiaomeng, the daughter of the family in the alley.
Xiaomeng slowly made her way forward, feeling her way along the wall, until she was exposed to the dim light.
She raised her little head, looked at Chen Yongnian, and asked, "Will my father really be beaten to death?"
Chen Yongnian looked at the girl in front of him in the dim light. He couldn't bear to say those cruel words, but he also didn't want to deceive the girl.
He hesitated for a moment, then said, "If he didn't lie, he'll be back soon."
Xiaomeng knew perfectly well whether there had been any false reporting.
Although the other person did not answer her question, they conveyed the answer to her in another way.
She can't escape responsibility for this either.
She pouted and asked, "Uncle, is there any way to lessen my father's punishment?"
“If you can prove that he was coerced, you might be able to reduce his punishment,” Chen Yongnian replied earnestly.
But he and Xiaomeng both knew very well that it was almost impossible to get those people to admit to coercion unless they resorted to torture.
However, this could easily be accused of being a forced confession.
The night is long, but the lights will eventually come out and the day will begin anew.
Inside the prison cell, Wan Qiqi had no idea what time it was outside, but she could roughly tell that another day had passed.
These people locked her and Zhong Le in a cell, and apart from bringing them food every day, no one else came, as if they had been abandoned there.
Taking advantage of Qi Yang bringing over the food, Wan Qiqi quickly pulled him aside for a chat.
"Brother Qi, what happened to the person who reported us? Why haven't I seen him in jail?" Wan Qiqi asked with a smile, seemingly in a good mood.
Qi Yang glanced at her and said, "You'd better not ask. I can't tell you about this. Yongnian is back, and he brought a few people with him. I think you should be able to leave soon!"
"Okay, thank you." Wan Qiqi didn't ask any further questions, sat down on the stool, and fell into deep thought.
After the others left, Zhong Le sat down and asked, "Why do I feel that you weren't happy when you knew your husband was coming?"
"No matter the outcome, the girls' school probably won't be able to open. What I wanted will ultimately become an illusion. What's there to be happy about?" Wan Qiqi gave a bitter smile.
How can we turn the situation around? Is it only by becoming powerful that we can help those around us escape the mire?
"As long as you're still here, there's still hope." Zhong Le smiled and said, "Even if weeds wither in winter, they can still come back with a spring breeze. If you can endure the harsh winter, what's there to fear about the arrival of spring?"
Zhong Le picked up the kettle, poured a glass of water, and handed it to Wan Qiqi. "Losing isn't necessarily losing, and winning isn't necessarily winning either. Stay true to yourself, and there's plenty of time in the future."
Wan Qiqi looked at Zhong Le, paused for a moment, then smiled slightly, "There's plenty of time in the future..."
Looking back on the days since I traveled here, it hasn't even been a year, but I've already changed my family's situation and solved the problem of food and clothing.
Yes! There's plenty of time in the future!
Wan Qiqi picked up the teacup and offered it as a toast instead of wine, saying, "Thank you for your guidance, Mr. Zhong."
“It’s not a matter of giving advice; you’re naturally clear-headed, clearer than many women…” Zhong Le murmured, seemingly lost in memories.
Wan Qiqi didn't say anything, but sat down to drink tea, seemingly pondering something.
After a long while, the sound of cursing and swearing came from the prison entrance.
"Who told you to lock her up? Did you even ask my opinion? And why so far away!"
"What are you looking at? Do you know who I am? Look again, and believe me, I'll have your eyes gouged out!"
"You've locked her up in such a filthy place, it's so unfair..."
The nagging reached Wan Qiqi's ears from a great distance.
She didn't need to look up to know who was coming.
She was just a little curious as to why Fang Luxue would be in the prison at this time.
Would Fang Ziming allow her to come in?
It is obvious that Fang Lucue was able to enter with Fang Ziming's permission.
That also means that the matter of being reported may be over, and she can leave!
"Hey Qi, open the door right now!" Fang Luxue stood with her hands on her hips, looking furious, and ordered the constables beside her.
Qi Yang seemed somewhat helpless with this young lady, but he obediently did as she said, opening the cell door with utmost respect.
The young lady who had been complaining about how dirty the place was rushed in and looked Wan Qiqi up and down. If it weren't for the presence of a man, she probably would have pulled off her clothes to examine her.
Seeing that the person she was worried about seemed to be unharmed, she breathed a slight sigh of relief, but still couldn't help asking, "Sister Qi, did they bully you? Tell me, and I'll definitely teach them a lesson!"
"I'm fine, what are you doing in here? It's dirty and full of all sorts of people. If something happens, no one can take responsibility." Wan Qiqi wanted to reach out and flick Fang Luxue's nose, but then remembered that her hands were dirty, so she had to stop.
