Chapter 58 Cleaning

Chapter 58 Cleaning

Wan Qiqi opened the window, and the circulating air gradually carried away the musty smell.

Without windows to block the sunlight, the room becomes much brighter.

The furniture was covered in a thick layer of dust, and there was nowhere to put everyone's luggage. We had to clear out a clean spot to pile up our bags before we could actually start working.

The group from Lianhua Village, including Sun Yin, consisted of ten people. Working together, they quickly cleaned the house.

Wan Qiqi plopped down in the chair, her delicate face reflected on the table, looking somewhat distorted. She turned her face away in disgust.

Yang Mu and Chen Yongliang were assembling a bed frame.

In no time, a bed was formed and placed on one side of the room.

Yang Mu patted the bed frame. "I don't know how old this bed is. The wood is rotten, and the joints weren't even properly made. It won't last much longer!"

A glimmer of light flashed in Wan Qiqi's eyes, "Uncle Yang, you know carpentry?"

“What do you mean by being a carpenter? Uncle Yang is a very famous carpenter in our village. He even made the gate for my yard!” Zhao Shitou spread straw on the bed, wiped the bamboo mat again, and then laid it on.

Yang Mu's cheeks flushed slightly as he smiled and said, "I only know some rough work; I can't do anything fancy. It's only the people in the village who appreciate me. Nobody outside would value my work."

Listening to the conversation, Wan Qiqi understood what was going on.

Regardless of skill level, having a skill is a good thing; all she lacked was someone to help her.

"Uncle Yang, when I get back I want you to make some furniture for me. You have to give me a discount!" Finally, someone can make a bed for her, and she can also make some other furniture while she's at it.

Yang Mu smiled and said, "Sure! If you do business with me, I'll definitely give you a discount, I can even do it for free!" His plague was cured by Physician Sun and saved by Wan Qiqi's meticulous care.

He would never forget this kindness. What was wrong with just a few pieces of furniture?

While Wan Qiqi and Yang Mu were chatting, the others swept the ground clean and laid out their bedding.

Lin Zhaodi frowned as she looked at the rows of makeshift beds lined up next to each other.

She's not married yet, but she's living with a man. If word gets out, probably no one will ever dare to marry her!

However, there was only one room, and she had no other choice.

Chen Yongliang looked around and his gaze fell on Lin Zhaodi, who was in a daze. Lin Zhaodi was Lin Dazhuang's older sister, and Lin Dazhuang was his good brother. Since her brother was not around, he, as his brother, should take good care of his sister.

So he went over and asked, "Tell me what's wrong, and I'll help you solve it."

The warm breath on her ear made Lin Zhaodi blush. It was the first time she had been so close to Chen Yongliang, and Chen Yongliang had even taken the initiative to talk to her, which made her heart beat faster.

She buried her head and stammered, "N-nothing..."

Seeing that she didn't speak, Chen Yongliang could only shrug his shoulders in resignation.

Although Wan Qiqi was chatting with Yang Mu, she took in this scene. She sighed at Chen Yongliang's lack of understanding, while also thinking that he was still quite young.

In modern times, fifteen or sixteen is considered early dating, but in the backward rural areas of ancient times, it was already considered marriageable age.

Some girls get married at the age of thirteen, and men like Chen Yongliang are also married at that age. These two are only not engaged yet because of their families.

Although Wan Qiqi understood the situation clearly, she had no intention of interfering. Whether it succeeded or not was their own business.

Sun Yin came in from outside and saw that the room had been cleaned, which made him feel much better. But the same question remained: how should the two women be accommodated? They couldn't very well sleep with the men.

Although Wan Qiqi is married, her husband is not here, and Lin Zhaodi is an unmarried woman, so it is even more inappropriate for her to sleep with these men.

Everyone inside the house was thinking about this issue, and the more they thought about it, the more they felt that Guanshi Village had gone too far. How could they treat the people who came to help them like this!

Seeing everyone fall silent, Wan Qiqi glanced at the made-up bed and offered her suggestion, "Doctor Sun, could I have that bed?" Anyone with eyes could see that there was only one bed in the room, which was definitely intended for the doctor.

Sun Langzhong was taken aback for a moment, then said, "Of course."

Wan Qiqi nodded. "Third brother, Uncle Yang, Shitou, could you please move that cabinet over here?" She pointed to the cabinet against the corner of the wall and then to the empty space next to the bed.

Although the three people who were named did not know her purpose, they did as she said.

"You're going the wrong way, turn around." Wan Qiqi directed, and quickly used the cabinet to divide the room into two spaces.

Although it's just a difference of one cabinet, it effectively divides the room into two rooms, one large and one small.

The others' eyes lit up, and Zhao Shitou exclaimed in praise, "Yes, by dividing the room with cabinets, you can live inside! Madam Wan, you're so clever!"

Wan Qiqi only smiled and remained silent.

It's not that she's smart; it's that these people don't like to use their brains or think, which makes her stand out.

There's nothing we can do about it; this is the only arrangement we can make for now.

She looked at Lin Zhaodi and said, "Put the bundle inside!" Then she turned to Sun Yin and said, "Uncle Sun, you and the others may have to sleep on the floor."

"It's alright." Sun Yin felt that it was already a great privilege to have the opportunity to come back and live here.

After everyone finished packing and taking necessary precautions, they headed towards the Guanli Zheng family's home.

Guanshi Village is larger than Lianhua Village and has a flatter terrain, so the houses appear to be arranged more neatly, and the overall look is more comfortable.

Before long, they arrived at the village head's house. The village head was standing in the courtyard, talking to people with a kind smile.

Upon noticing the ten approaching figures, his gentle demeanor vanished, and his eyes turned cold. "All ready?"
